A New Year Means New Glasses and Sunglasses

Gift & Purchased (Affiliate Links)

I love glasses and sunglasses, and one of my great joys is selecting new frames. We have a really great vision policy that grants free new frames and lenses every other year, but expensive designer glasses are substantially discounted. Therefore, as one might well imagine, I go in early and hunt for new frames. This year I fell head-over-heels in love with these Tom Ford frames on the right, and these Prada Aviators were a gift from my beloved sister!
The Prada Aviators are embellished with gorgeous little amber crystals on the arms, but this particular style no longer seems to be available. Nordstrom does have a very similar pair of Prada Aviators for women, but the arms are a bit more sporty.

Thankfully the Tom Ford glasses are still available, and are absolutely breathtaking. This is my 4th pair of Tom Ford glasses, and the quality absolutely fantastic.

Features:
  • Metal T insets graze the hinges of geek-chic Italian optical frames.
  • 50mm lens width; 21mm bridge width; 145mm temple length.
  • Fitted with non-optical demo lenses.
  • Prescription compatible.
  • Plastic.
  • Made in Italy.
Amber crystals line the arms of my Prada Aviators

Overall Assessment: Money well spend, and classic designs that I will wear for a long time. If you are hunting for gorgeous glasses, or sunglasses, then these two brands offer exceptional quality Italian frames that are well-constructed and gorgeous. Check your vision plan as well, you might be surprised by the extent of the discounting available to you.

  1. Hello my glamorous professor,
How is life my twinster? Here everything is cold and windy. I just came back from a nice vacation. The semester starts next week so I need to focus yet I have no desire to do so :(
How is life in LA? How are the felines? How is 2016 going so far?
    Sending hugs your way.

    1. I'm sure that you are a far more glamorous professor, than I!

I hope that you are well, and that you had a lovely vacation, and that you have adequate time to rest and relax before your semester starts next week! We are on the quarter system, so I just finished my second week of teaching, and am already in the thick of it. Two of my grad students have sent me their first thesis drafts, led letters of recommendation written, and need lots of office hour meetings– so they are definitely keeping me on my toes in addition to my teaching schedule. I know what you mean about not being ready to focus yet, I felt that way two weeks ago, but that is now a distant memory since I am running at warp speed now! The felines are doing well– if not a little needly since I am on campus a lot, but things are going well!

Sending you lots and lots of love! Enjoy this time to catch your breath before you are back at work! xoxoxox

  2. Those look really nice! I'm always in need of stylish frames. I've worn glass since I was 12.

    1. I agree, Allison. It usually takes me so much time to pick out new frames, but I saw these Tom Ford frames online, and grabbed the black pair and this tortoise pair in the display case the moment I walked into the office. They were the only two that I tried on, and i decided on these! I got super lucky with these aviators because my sister bought them for herself, but felt that they were too small for her face, and she gave them to me. They are a perfect fit!

  5. Sunglasses are my weakness as well. I accidentally left my favorite pair of Chanel's (with the rhinestone C's on the side) in the car when we used valet and they weren't there when we checked out of the hotel two days later. I was so upset!

    1. OMG, that is the worst feeling! I once had a brand spanking new pair of sunglasses stolen on the first day that I wore them. I set them down for two seconds, and when I turned around to get them they were gone!

  6. My vision plan pays so little for the actual glasses. They do cover my lenses well. I've never thought to buy regular sunglasses and add my prescription since I thought that would be too costly.
Both of these pairs are terrific and I bet you look great in them.

    1. At least you get some coverage on your frames! Lenses are so expensive that you are lucky that yours are covered! It is so easy to have them pop your prescription into the frames of your regular sunglasses. That's precisely what they did with these aviators from my sister. My plan covered didn't cover that because I applied the policy to the Tom Ford frames and lenses instead. I think that the expense really has more to do with the type of prescription that you have. It's definitely worth taking your favorite sunglasses in to see what it would cost to add your prescription lenses! :-)

    1. Me too! I am almost embarrassed to admit that this is my 4th pair of TF frames– they are always made so well, and are gorgeous!
