Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap Unscented Review

Press Sample (Unaffiliated Links)

Alaffia's Authentic African Black Soap Unscented is a fantastic multipurpose all natural Certified Fair Trade soap  that is so gentle and effective that it is even suitable for those among us with the most sensitive skin. While this is an unscented version, the black soap itself has a pleasant warm earthy scent that does not linger very long.

According to Alaffia,

Authentic African Black Soap is an "all in one" option for cleaning, and is ideal for faces and babies, shaving, shampooing, and as a general hand & body wash. This unscented option caters to individuals with even the most sensitive skin. Suitable for all skin and hair types.

Instructions for use:

Facial Cleanser: "Apply with palms or facial cloth and massage gently over skin. Rinse clean and pat dry. Follow with Alaffia face cream of your choice."

Body Wash: "Squeeze onto a wet loofah, scrub or wash cloth and work into a lather on body. Rinse thoroughly."

Shampoo: "Apply to wet hair & massage into a rich lather. Rinse thoroughly & condition with Alaffia, EveryDay Shea or EveryDay Coconut conditioner."

Additional uses: Hand Soap, Shaving Soap, and General Household Cleanser.

Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap is a remarkably versatile cleanser that is equally suitable as a facial cleanser, a gently cleansing shampoo, a rich and creamy body wash, a highly effective shaving soap, a hand soap, and anything else that you can imagine. While the lather is lusciously rich and its cleansing ability is superior-- it never strips the skin or leaves it tight or uncomfortable. While it is unmistakably multipurpose, I do tend to use it most frequently as a body wash, a hand soap, and a shaving soap.

Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap is available in Unscented, Peppermint and Tangerine Citrus.

Key Ingredients: African Black Soap (Saponified Shea Butter and Palm Kernel Oil).

Overall assessment: This is not my first bottle, nor will it be my last. This is a definite staple in my household!

  1. I've been wanting to try African black soap for a long time! I keep hearing how well it works on oily skin.

    1. I have a couple of friends with oily skin who swear by African Black Soap for their skin, and both gave up all of their other cleansers because they said it worked better for them, and at a fraction of the cost. It's definitely worth trying! :-)

    1. I'm not at all surprised that it is discussed on a rosacea forum. It definitely is great for sensitive skin types. It does seem to be preferred by oily skin types for regular use on the face, but others seem to benefit from it as well. If you get some to use on your body etc.-- then you might want to see if it works on your face once in a while. I tend to use it on my body and hands, and periodically as a shampoo. I really love this stuff!
