Maybelline Baby Lips: Twinkle, Melon Mania, Pink Wink & Yummy Plummy- Review

As you surely know by now, I really love lip balms and use them all of the time. Having tried and really liked Maybelline Baby Lips Moisturizing Lip Balm I didn't hesitate to pick up these limited edition shades while perusing the aisles of Walgreens recently (they were on sale- so they ended up being about $3.00 each).

Maybelline claims: "No more basic lip balm. Our exclusive formula moisturizes lips for a full 8 hours.
Lips renewed in 1 week."

I definitely find this formula to be intensely moisturizing and very comfortable on the lips. The colors are cute and fun, but while the limited edition shades that I purchased appear as though they would impart color on the lips they actually are quite sheer. So sheer in fact that my attempts to take pictures of my swatches were thwarted. I picked up all of them except for Coral Crush- which I avoided because such colors tend not to flatter my complexion. I now realize that it would have been sheer enough to have worked.

Twinkle: is a very very sheer (read: clear) pink. The scent is reminiscent of sweet fruity candy- I can't quite pinpoint which one, but Skittles come to mind.
Melon Mania: is a sheer pretty pink. It doesn't smell like melon to me, but again more like candy.
Pink Wink: is a very sheer pink. It smells a bit like bubblegum.
Yummy Plummy: is a very sheer plum that smells a bit like a sugar plum fragrance or candle.
Overall Assessment: I love this formula because it is very moisturizing and feels great on the lips. The fragrance fades very quickly, but the moisture lingers. If you are looking for a pigmented tinted lip balm- these run a bit too sheer to offer any tangible pigmentation. Therefore, there really is no need to collect all of the colors from the limited edition collection if you are doing so with the intention of having a nice variation of colors. I do find, however, that the colors from the permanent range offer greater pigmentation.

  2. I like the blue one with SPF the best. It's too bad they all don't contain SPF--strange. While I do like these, I find that I go through a stick VERY very quickly. I'm talking 2 weeks flat--no joke! :P

  3. My name is BooBooNinja and I'm a lip balm addict.
Well... It's more of a manageable habit. (Or is this something addicts say?)

I haven't tried these. I'm working on what I already have.
Ps have you tried Chantecaille Lip Chics? I'm planning on searching them when my ban is over.

    1. Girl, you and me both!!!! That's probably something that addicts say, but I would have some difficulty differentiating since I am also a lip balm addict!

Smart to work your way through your stash. I do think that it is rather silly to have LE lip balms though-- I don't quite understand the rationale!

I have only swatched Chante Lip Chics-- they have been on my want list for quite some time. The texture is so creamy dreamy. I definitely want some of them, but am trying to use a few lippies before opening that door! I also would love a few more Chante Brilliant Glosses-- I have Love, and REALLY love it! <3
