Step-by-Step At-Home Spa Facial

This New Year's Eve I will be staying home, staying safe and pampering myself. Part of my ritual will be to give myself a fantastic at-home spa facial, and below are the steps that I will follow. I did not indicate particular products in each category because you should use your favorite products for a wonderful experience that addresses the needs of your skin. The most important thing is to use what you love and savor the whole experience.

FACE, NECK & DÉCOLLETÉ TREATMENT:

STEP I: To begin the facial, pump out enough of your favorite cleansing oil for your face, neck and décolleté. Massage it for about 1 minute in a circular motion concentrating on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. After massaging, the skin add a few drops of warm water in order to emulsify the oil, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

STEP II:  Select your favorite face exfoliant and gently massage into your wet face neck and décolleté in a very light circular motion, and then rinse face thoroughly. If your face scrub leaves behind any residue, then you will want to follow up by washing your face with your favorite cleanser.

STEP III: Now that all of your dead skin cells have been removed, apply a thin layer of your favorite mask to warm, dry skin using your finger tips, but be sure to avoid the delicate eye area. If you have dry skin, then opt for a moisture mask, but if you have congested skin use a detox or clay mask. Leave on as directed and then rinse face.

STEP IV: Apply 2-3 pumps of your favorite serum to damp face, neck, and décolleté, and massage it into skin in an upward motion.

STEP V: Select your favorite face oil and massage it into your skin in an upward motion. Be sure that you use enough to cover your face, neck and décolleté.

STEP VIWarm your favorite face balm or your favorite nourishing face cream between your fingertips and massage it into your face, neck and décolleté. Massage upward and outward in order to boost circulation.

STEP VII: Apply your favorite eye mask gels or patches to your under eye area and leave them on for the suggested period of time.

STEP VIIIWarm a tiny amount of your favorite eye cream between your ring fingers and then gently pat it into the delicate eye area, and apply any remaining cream to your lips.

Overall Assessment: Now, relax and enjoy your soft and glowing skin! Happy New Year!

  1. Such a useful post! I am never sure whether to apply face oil first and then serum or serum and then oil. Thank you for addressing the correct order of application!

    1. Thank you, Allison! The general idea is that lighter non-oil based serums go first, and then the heavier and richer items last. Oils to a good job sealing the lighter things in!
