Westman Atelier Lip Brush Review

Purchased (Affiliate Links)

I decided to purchase the Westman Atelier Lip Brush, and why would I do this? What can I tell you, Gucci Westman makes extraordinary quality makeup brushes, and I am thoroughly obsessed with them. Did I need it? No, not at all! Am I glad that I purchased it? ABSOLUTELY. I had Sephora points to cash in, and therefore this brush only cost $28.00.

This compact lip brush is expertly handcrafted in Japan, and I have read that it is Hakuhodo who makes all of their brushes, and it is utter perfection. The perfectly balanced, and sustainably harvested, birch handle is short and easy to maneuver. The cruelty-free nylon bristles are soft, and the wide head is big enough to really cover a lot of real estate with each swipe. It effectively picks up and deposits lipsticks without wasting a lot of product, and it feels so wonderful on the lips. Gucci said that she decided to use black bristles since lipsticks would permanently stain the wonderful white bristles that she uses for the rest of her brushes. I only own a couple of lip brushes, and this is by far superior.
According to Westman Atelier,

An essential makeup tool and perfect match to Lip Suede. The subtly wider brush head picks up an ideal amount of pigment and creates a seamless curve as color glides over lips. A substantial handle gives maximum control for the most effortlessly striking finish.
Features:

- Artisan Design: Handmade in Kumano, Japan using traditional techniques from the most prestigious brush maker in the world.

- Lacquered Handles: Crafted with the finest sustainable hardwood birch from a Forest Stewardship Council certified forest in Eastern Europe.

- High Performance: Luxurious and durable. Finely tapered nylon fibers feel ultra-smooth with optimal density, softness and function.

- Our brush-making process is cruelty-free.
Made with cruelty-free, super soft nylon fibers.
Gucci's Notes:

I love the precision of a soft, beautiful, curvy mouth that only a lip brush can provide. Play around with how diffused or precise you want the finish to be. Before applying lip color, gently exfoliate skin with a warm towel and let lip balm sink in for a few minutes.

Apply color from the center of the mouth outward. This way, pigment lasts longer through talking and drinking, while the edges look more modern and diffused.
To correct small mistakes and prevent color from bleeding, use a foundation brush and Vital Skin around the outer perimeter of the mouth. Afterward, use a fingertip or pointy Q-tip to dab away excess foundation so it's completely invisible.
Overall Assessment: This was another excellent brush purchase from Westman Atelier, and now I have all but three of them!

  1. That is very interesting that Hakuhodo makes the Westman Atelier brushes! Definitely a worthwhile purchase with your Sephora points. Pretty soon, you will have a complete set. Concealer brush next? (I'm envious!)

    1. That is what I had read, and I had been wondering if it was Hakuhodo. They have been making other people's brushes for a long time (Tom Ford the old MAC brushes years ago, that I know of). I don't generally use lip brushes, but they make such a difference for precision application and building color, and this one is really first rate. I have been obsessing on her foundation brush and her touch up brush. The only one that I am not thinking about is her bronzer brush, because I don't really wear bronzer, and the bristles look too long to effectively apply powder blush with pinpoint accuracy. Since I have been buying these online, and since few have been reviewed, I have selected the brushes that I have purchased more intuitively and on blind faith. I also have watched a few of Gucci's videos and watched the techniques that she uses to apply makeup with her brushes, and that definitely inspired even greater interest! I do wish that she had a powder blush brush with shorter and more densely articulates bristles– that is something that I would instantly cash in Sephora points to purchase!
