Carven Dans Ma Bulle Eau de Parfum | Review

Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

Carven Dans Ma Bulle Eau de Parfum, which is described as a powdery floral oriental fragrance, is a warm and rich fragrance that sits surprisingly close to the skin. What is surprising, given that its base-notes consist of Vanilla, Sandalwood and Patchouli, is that it is in actuality far lighter and fresher than its aromatic facets might suggest. The top and middle notes effectively counterbalance the base notes, which would normally be quite assertive save for the vanilla, and the end result is an oriental that is tempered by a fruity floral sensibility.

That it is a lighter permutation of a floral oriental fragrance is also clearly seen in its sillage. After it dries down it intimately burrows into the skin and does not announce itself to passersby. A few hours later you may think that it has disappeared altogether, but a cursory sniff of the wrist affirms that it is, in fact, still there. On my skin it begins its journey as a warm and round powdery oriental punctuated by Litchi Rose, Peony and Jasmine, but later the Manderin Orange announces itself and any hint of Patchouli fades away. While its initial complexity may confound your olfactory receptors– as you try to identify its many notes–as it dries down you will likely feel soothed and comforted by its warmth and inherent beauty.
KEY NOTES:
Top Notes: Litchi Rose, Mandarin Orange, Peony. The sparkling fruity freshness of Litchi Rose is blended with the floral delicacy of Peony for a very natural hook.
Middle Notes: Sugared Almond Accord, Heliotrope, Jasmine Sambac. The unique addictive quality of the Sugared Almond Accord combined with Heliotrope enhances the ultra femininity of Jasmine Sambac.
Base Notes: Vanilla, Sandalwood, Patchouli. Vanilla and Sandalwood enrich the floral heart note with elegant sensuality.
Fragrance Family: Floral, oriental, powdery.

According to Carven,

Dans Ma Bulle is an invitation to live and share in the world of the Carven girl. This fragrance offers a new addiction, a concentrate of freshness, fantasy and sensuality. For curious and daring girls, knowing how to mix Parisian chic and relaxation.
Ingredients: Alcohol Denat., Fragrance, Water, Benzyl Salicylate, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Limonene, Citronellol, Alpha-isomethyl Ionone, Linalool, Ethylhexyl Salicylate, Butyl Methoxydibenzoylmethane, Coumarin, Benzyl Alcohol, Propylene Glycol, Citral, Geraniol, Benzyl Benzoate, Red 4/CI 14700, Red 33/CI 17200, Yellow 5/CI 19140.
Overall Assessment: This is a very nice fragrance that is definitely worth trying if you like oriental florals that are neither too assertive, nor in the least bit pungent.

  2. I'm so happy to see you reviewing a perfume from Carven! This sounds like my kind of scent, so i must seek it out! I love florientals and I love powdery scents. But for some reason, nothing is lasting or having any sill age on me - for at least the last 6 months. I tried applying over Vaseline or unscented lotion, and nothing. Any ideas for me??

    1. Thank you, Allison. Carven makes such lovely fragrances. I definitely think that it is your type of scent. It is subtle enough that it isn't imposing to passersby, and it does sit very close to the skin. It's very odd that nothing is lasting on you or having any sillage on you these days. I wonder what's been going on in the last 6 months? The only thing that I can think of to try to increase the longevity is to fragrance layer– but that assumes that you would have other products from that particular scent to use together. Have you made some sort of dietary change that has impacted you? Are you having seasonal allergies that are impacting your sense of smell? You might want to bring it up on your next yearly physical to see if your doctor might have any insights to share.

  3. It sounds lovely. I don't like oriental but since this is tempered with fruity florals I'd give it a try. Must sniff in store.
