Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil | Review

I am obsessed with so many things that Shu Uemura makes from their makeup to their iconic cleansing oils, and also their stupendous haircare products. They offer superbly luxurious products that are such a joy to use, and in my experience they create one masterpiece after another. My latest Shu obsession, however, isn't a fancy unusual product in an elegantly or whimsically ornamented packaging, but instead a must-have workhorse eyebrow pencil that you need to sharpen every now and then.

Shu Uemura Hard Formula Brow Pencil, which comes in seven shades, is a very long-lasting hard eyebrow pencil that is made of a mixture of powder, wax and solid oil. The hard tip makes it ideal for laying down the perfect amount of pigment in small hair-like strokes of the wrist to emulate the appearance of individual hairs. Rather than smearing or migrating, this formula boasts such impressive efficacy that it stays put all day long. I selected Oak Brown 09 because it is a very suitable shade for my very dark brown eyebrows, and since I started using it I haven't reached for any of my other brow products.
According to Shu Uemura,

This unique eyebrow pencil has been beloved for over 25 years. This eyebrow pencil has an oil activated formula: color only shows with natural oil that is on the eyebrow. This unique formula consists of a mix of powder, wax, and small amounts of semi-solid oil, a winning combination that delivers the perfect hardness for ultimate precision with a powdery texture that works well with foundation upon application. The result is a natural and defined brow look. Smudge-proof and long-lasting.

Please note: hard formula does not come sharpened in the shape of a naginata samurai sword.

What is naginata? enabling precision, the unique "naginata" samurai sword shape is part of shu uemura's heritage, creating natural, defined brows, for both fine lines and wider areas. the angled tip boasts versatility, craftsmanship, and a timeless functionality that navigates ever-changing brow trends through time. the edge is used to draw precise lines as thin as hair, the side surfaces are for shading naturally or boldly, and the point is for filling in the fine gaps in the brows for a beautiful finish. each pencil is carefully manufactured and is the epitome of Japanese craftsmanship.
Overall Assessment: This is the best eyebrow pencil that I have used, it really is that good!

  1. When I had a makeup site (prior to my blog) we had a chat room part of it. There were non-stop raves for this pencil. So many of the women loved it in Seal Brown. I think Oak Brown would be my shade too.

    1. The raves are for good reason! This formula is really superb. I haven't swatched Seal Brown, but I picked Oak Brown because it just seemed that it would be a better fit for the color of my brows.
