OBAGI Sun Shield Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50 for Fun in the Sun | Review

With some beach days left this summer, I decided to share the sunscreen that I put in my beach bag before I headed out for a day of fun in the sun. My criteria was a high SPF mineral sunscreen that was water resistant and effective, and after looking through my selection of sunscreens I reached for OBAGI Sun Shield Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50.

OBAGI Sun Shield Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50 is lightweight, oil-free and non-comedogenic. It is formulated for all skin types, including sensitive and reactive skin, and unlike many mineral sunscreens it dries clear. Furthermore, it is water resistant for up to 40 minutes– which is among the reasons that it is a particularly well suited choice for a day of fun at the beach.  I reapply it every 80 minutes, and avoid excessive exposure to the sun, but I am definitely impressed by the efficacy of this fantastic sunscreen.
According to Obagi,

Introducing Sun Shield Mineral: an All-Physical Broad Spectrum SPF 50 Sunscreen
We are proud to introduce Obagi® Sun Shield Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50, a light, clear-drying, all-physical sunscreen that provides broad spectrum protection against the sun’s harmful UVA and UVB rays.1-3

This sunscreen was recommended by the Skin Cancer Foundation as an effective broad spectrum sunscreen and can be worn every day. Because of the ingredients used in all-physical sunscreens, some formulations tend to leave a white film on the skin after application and are harder to rub into the skin. Sun Shield Mineral uses the revolutionary INVISIBLE ZINC technology, which is naturally sourced and results in a uniquely dry, clear finish.

Features:
- Formulated with naturally sourced, microfine zinc oxide in INVISIBLE ZINC technology provides clear-drying protection against both UVA and UVB rays
- Ceramides help repair and restore the protective skin barrier
- Moisturizing Vitamin B derivative niacinamide supports skin’s natural ceramides and fatty acids in a skin-soothing formula
- Lightweight, oil free, appropriate for all skin types and designed for sensitive skin
- Non-comedogenic
- Non-irritating and non-sensitizing
- Sun Shield Mineral Broad Spectrum SPF 50 provides up to 40 minutes of water-resistant protection

Directions: Apply liberally 15 minutes before sun exposure; reapply after 40 minutes of swimming or seating; immediately after towel trying; reapply at least every 2 hours; children under 6 months: Ask a doctor.
Key Ingredients:
Zinc Oxide: reflects and scatters UV rays, protecting the skin
