LIPSTICK QUEEN Let Them Eat Cake | Review and Swatches

Every once in a blue moon, I find a lipstick shade that evokes an unparalleled visceral reaction in me– one that might be characterized as a combination of glee and awe. I have always been enamored of pearly lilac pinks, and remember such a shade that was among my first lipstick loves as a teenager. I have perpetually sought out a replacement shade since that time, and LIPSTICK QUEEN Let Them Eat Cake is the very embodiment of this long-lost shade.

Described as a "delicate lilac shot through with sugary rose gold sparkles"– this twinkling beauty is perfection for those who seek an infinitely wearable lilac pink. While the base is a cool-toned lilac, the rose gold sparkles add enough warmth that tempers the cool tones. Therefore, it can be worn by people with warm or  cool  complexions.

The metallic finish is refined and elegant, rather than overdone, and can be worn from day to night while remaining office appropriate. It feels lightweight on the lips,  and I get two to three hours of wear-time before needing to reapply. Once the lipstick wears away, it does leave some shimmer on the lips, and if you over-apply you may experience some shimmer migration.

I have worn Let Them Eat Cake alone and accompanied by a lip gloss, but I love the finish and color so much that I prefer to wear it by itself.
According to LIPSTICK QUEEN,

The lavender trend gets a Lipstick Queen makeover with Let Them Eat Cake, a delicate lilac lipstick shot through with sugary rose gold sparkles that will light up your entire look. Paying homage to Marie Antoinette’s lavish taste and her total rejection of the ordinary, Poppy created this ground-breaking and truly extraordinary lipstick that captures that same spirit of rebellion and decadence. Pretty pastel is given a special metallic finish with a rock and roll edge that shimmers flirtatiously on the lips.

Can be worn alone or as a topcoat, it will transform your favourite Lipstick Queen shade with its unique metallic pearl effect. The icing on the cake, if you will!

 About LIPSTICK QUEEN,

A cult Australian brand born out of one woman's quest to find the perfect lipstick. Twenty years on, the range now contains a plethora of unique and beautiful hues.

Not the way in which the light ignites the luminosity and modulates the hue.
Overall Assessment: This is precisely the shade that I have spent years trying to find, and I can't begin to express how happy this makes me! If you have a penchant for complex lilac pink lipsticks, then you really owe it to yourself to take a closer look at this gorgeous lipstick. While  historians have long contended that there is no evidence to suggest that Marie Antoinette, the wife of Louis XIV, ever actually uttered the words “Qu’ils mangent de la brioche"– I absolutely love the inspiration for this gorgeous, royal gem of a lipstick!

  1. Oh, I might need that. But at $50, I'm going to have to see and test it myself first.

    1. It is absolutely gorgeous, and if you love lilac pink shades– then this is a definite treat. I know that the price point is high, but to me it is definitely worth it. Of course, I have become rather desensitized after buying so many Tom Ford, Guerlain and By Terry Lipsticks at, and above, that price point.

    2. Swatched it in the store yesterday and determined it isn't for me. They did have some other lovely colors though.
