Milo Update

First, I must thank you from the bottom of my heart for your ongoing outpouring of love about Fannie's lost battle with renal failure, and Milo's continued battle with IBD. I have received so many emails from you expressing your love and support, and it has definitely renewed my faith in humanity (which is particularly nice given what just happened in Paris).

I am pleased to report that while the vet was 99% certain that Milo had Lymphoma, a definitive diagnosis just revealed that he is battling IBD instead of IBD as a symptom of Lymphoma. Milo has a long road ahead, but thankfully it does not involve Chemotherapy. This type of IBD often leads to Lymphoma, but for now that isn't an issue, and it may never be.

I have lots of posts planned for you, but the exceedingly high winds have knocked out our power. Once the power is back on, I will publish my latest post. xoxo, Helen

  1. You must have Dish rather than cable...... I know lots of people who ditched their Dish for this reason. I also have a friend who has no issues, so who knows!

    1. It was our electricity that went out. Huge trees fell and downed power lines and transformers in out neighborhood, and we lost power from 8:00AM yesterday until 4:00AM this morning! It was crazy! I sat reading at candlelight! Winds were between 40-70 MPH, and there are so many mature trees in our neighborhood– so it was really bad!

  2. Awww, Milo. You are a star!
So happy to read my darling one that your lovely Milo has many more moons ahead of him. I'm sending you much light my twinster for this weekend. Hugs to you, to strong Milo, and to the rest of the furry clan.

    1. Thank you, love! It seems as though there is hope for his survival! It will be a long road to recovery, but it looks possible now! xoxoxox

  3. Anything chronic is so much better than lymphoma, though issues with the tail end are never fun. At least Milo had a wonderful owner like you who will treat things as best and as comfortably as you can. Sometimes in the midst of these serious and tragic conditions I think we forget how much we give to our pets and what a wonderful thing that is!

    1. I completely agree! Not to mention the fact that his current medications are much more gentle on his system than would be Chemotherapy! Thank you for your very kind words, we are definitely doing everything that we can to get him the best treatment, and we are showering him with love. You are so right– especially since one is always feeling as though there is more that they should be doing!

    1. No kidding! We actually had no power from 8:00AM yesterday until 4:00AM this morning! So there was plenty of kitty snuggle time! I will definitely give Milo a big hug for you, and in kind he gives you big heart-felt purrs! They all do! Thank you so much! <3 <3 <3

    1. Thanks, Miki! I think that it will be a long road back to health, but we are so grateful that he doesn't have Lymphoma!

  6. I'm so sorry about Fannie, Helen. My cat Pixie has IBD and there is a support group on facebook that has been absolutely a lifesaver for us both. They have so many knowledgeable people in the group and they really have empowered me to get the best care for my girl. I highly recommend them.

    1. Thank you so much, Sandy! It has been difficult simultaneously grieving over Fannie's death while trying to prevent Milo's! I do think that he has a good chance of pulling through. Thank you so much for alerting me to the fact that their is an IBD support on Facebook! Is it feline specific, or for all animals? Could you tell me the name of the group so that I can take a look at it? I could really benefit from such a group. I am sorry to hear that Pixie has IBD! How long has she had it? What medications/foods is she on? Thank you again, I really really appreciate it!

    2. I can imagine it has been really rough, bless your heart! The facebook group is IBDKitties. They are really helpful and I have been amazed at how much my veterinarian doesn't know about IBD and other related disease in cats. I am not sure that Pixie would be here today in as good health as she is, if I hadn't joined that group.

She was sick starting about 2.5 yrs ago and they finally arrived at the IBD diagnosis probably middle of the year last year [after trying various other diagnoses that didn't pan out]. She was also diagnosed with chronic pancreatitis Right now she is eating Purina E/N prescription food--she also gets some Hills I/D and previously was on Royal Canin, can't remember the exact kind but I can find out when I get home. She has to have pancreatic enzymes put on her food before she can eat it and she gets prednisolone and cerenia medication wise and then a b12 shot every week or two. It has been quite a journey and it seems like there's always something going on but she's doing light years better than she was this time two years ago. My name on facebook is TomandSandys Stewart if you want to chat some more.

    3. Hi Sandy,

Thank you so very much for your kindness, support and help! Poor sweet Pixie has really been through quite an ordeal. It sounds as though Pixie and Milo have been through a lot of the same things. Milo is also on Prednisolone, and is starting Royal Canin HP tonight. He is a finicky eater and we are a bit concerned that he may not want to eat it. I will go and join that Facebook Group– thank you so much for the information. It will be very gratifying and comforting to learn how others have learned to traverse the intricacies of caring for a kitty with serious IBD. Thank you for your name on FB– I imagine that I will want to chat more! Thank you again, I am very grateful to you! <3
