Thank You for Your Outpouring of Love and Support! You are Extraordinary People

I am profoundly grateful to all of you for your touching outpouring of love and support in this difficult time. As you know, losing Fannie has been a devastating blow, and while she was diagnosed with renal failure 15 months ago she was doing remarkably well until just a few days ago when the decline came on swiftly, decisively and shockingly.

In the midst of our considerable grief over this incalculable loss, we have to now turn our attention to Milo. As I have mentioned, he is getting an endoscopy and biopsy today to determine whether he has cancer or Inflammatory Bowel Disease. With any luck, it is the latter and not the former, and that there is a good treatment plan to get him back in tip-top shape. As you may already know, he is Lola's brother (shown together below), and their attachment is deep and lifelong. I will keep you informed about his ultimate diagnosis and prognosis.

I have lots of reviews and stories planned for you, many of which are already mostly written, and I will be posting them soon. Thank you again for being such amazing people with such big hearts!
xoxox, Helen

  1. I lost my cat Bijou at 19 years of age and I still miss him. Having other pets to focus on definitely helps, but they are all such unique personalities and the void they leave is real. Sending good thoughts for Milo's prognosis.

    1. Hi Lulubelle, I am so sorry for your loss– my heart breaks for you. You are definitely right that having other pets to focus on helps, but they are indeed such individuals that the void left is real, and for me remains a permanent wound. Thank you for your good thoughts for Milo. We have to wait about a week for the results of his biopsy, but the vets feel that it is either IBD or Lymphoma. Hoping for the former!

  7. Good luck, fingers crossed. My kitty was luckily misdiagnosed and had an explosive disk herniation instead of spinal lymphoma. My vet in ABQ is great (Dr. Barbara Kitchell), but I'm sure you have great care. I doubt you need it, but I just mention it as Dr. Kitchell basically wrote the book on veterinary cancer.

    1. Thank you, Kirsten! Keep your fingers crossed! We have to wait about a week for his biopsy results, but I will keep you posted once the results are in. How lucky that your kitty was misdiagnosed, and that you found such a competent vet. Thank you for the name of your vet. I will definitely keep her name on hand. We are seeing an Internal Medicine specialist who is purported to be an expert in the field, and their hospital is set up much like a human hospital in that they are divided into specialty departments with specialists in their respective fields. It is my hope that between them, they will be able to get a very clear diagnosis, and then the most appropriate treatment. Fingers crossed that it turns out to be IBD and not Lymphoma! Have a lovely weekend!

  8. Yep, advanced kitty (and goggie) care has human parallels. With cancer treatment they usually start w what works for humans, then try on dogs, then cats. All the vet specialists are so awesome, my two were both DVM/PhDs, so I'm sure you are in good and loving hands.

    1. I think that we are in good hands, but I hope that he doesn't have anything so serious that we really need to test the skill of his vet! :-)
