The Life of a Slumbering Cat

As I was rushing about the house in the morning getting ready to leave for work, I happened upon Oliver sleeping. In the midst of scrambling to get out the door, I couldn't help but observe our radically differing mindsets at that moment. Me: frenzied state making sure I didn't forget anything for work that day. Oliver: smiling and inevitably dreaming about some kitty conquest for which he was most certainly the victor.
While it is an unending source of pleasure and satisfaction seeing him so happy, I couldn't help but reflect on the fact that there was something to be learned from all of this. Cats live in the moment, and embrace whatever it is that they are doing with total abandon. I, on the other hand, was functioning somewhere between the present and the future– worried whether I had everything I needed to get out the door, and simultaneously imaging the future me a few hours later (and pondering all of the things that needed to get done during the day).
There is something so enviable about the ability to embody the life of a cat, but I suppose if we weren't at work, then Oliver wouldn't have a place to sleep without a care in the world!

I hope that your week is off to a wonderful beginning! =^..^=
