L'Occitane New Peony Tinted Lip Balms | Review & Swatches

Among the lovely products launched in the new L'Occitane Peony Collection are three tinted and one transparent lip balms that are "inspired by the gorgeous hues of our beloved peonies, sustainably grown by Jean-Luc Rivière in the foothills of the Vercors Mountains of Provence. Each tinted lip balm is enriched with shea butter and gently glides on to nourish, smooth and protect lips with a subtle tint of color. Available in four shades including Rose, Amber, Plum and Sheer- all including SPF 25."

I have been testing Peony Tinted Lip Balm Rose NudePeony Tinted Lip Balm Rose Amber and Peony Lip Balm Transparent, and have to say that all three are wonderfully emollient and hydrating. They feel very creamy and comfortable with the perfect amount of cushion. While the effects are long-lasting, they are so deliciously divine to use that I apply them more often than needed. I do, however, make sure that I apply every two hours to make sure that I have continual protection from the sun. I use them alone, or as a base for my lipsticks and lip glosses, and they are so sheer that they do not tend to alter the pigmentation of the lipsticks worn. However, I do tend to use the clear lip balm when I am using it as a lipstick base.

While the Peony Lip Balms have a gorgeous floral scent, it does fade soon upon application, and therefore should not pose a problem for people who prefer unscented lip products.
Left to Right: Peony Tinted Lip Balm Rose Nude, Peony Tinted Lip Balm Rose Amber and Peony Lip Balm Transparent.
Enriched with Shea Butter and a perfecting peony extract, this balm nourishes, smoothes and protects the lips with SPF 25, while giving them a fresh and natural color. Lips are comfortable, evenly colored and simply beautiful. Proven 8-hour hydration.

According to L'Occitane,

There is a Mediterranean legend of a beautiful nymph named Paeonia who was so courted by the gods that a jealous goddess transformed her into a flower with a thousand petals: a peony. Since then, this symbol of beauty brightens every spring with its dazzling show of colors and scents.

The Peony collection offers a floral and generous perfume and eau de toilette, both marked with green freshness and containing a peony extract from Drôme in the south of France.
Overall Assessment: These super emollient and superbly moisturizing lip balms most definitely live up to the L'Occitane name. They are a delight to use, and they offer excellent sun protection.

  2. They are so lovely to look at like all of L'Occitane's products. But I'm a little surprised the lip balms look so much like Fresh's line. No matter, I need to pick one up with SPF to wear to the beach!

    1. Hi Twinsy, I have and am still testing it out, but it's really awesome! It starts out white from the tube, and then adjusts to your skin tone! It's CRAZAY cool! I am also testing out their BB Creams, and they are also lovely! I will post the CC Cream review soon!

    1. They are really wonderful, but there is definitely a similarity in the packaging. They taste/smell quite different though. I find these a touch more emollient.

  5. The packaging on these... so pretty and girly. I love L'Occitane, I haven't tried any lip products from them though - mostly just their scents.

  6. Those lip balms look suspiciously like Fresh. How do they compare?

    1. There is no question that the packaging is quite similar. I pulled out both and I find that the L'Occitane lip balm is a bit longer lasting, and a teeny tiny bit less emollient (no doubt accounting for the longer wear-time). The tinted shades between the two lines impart about the same amount of sheer color, but there flavors/scents differ considerably. They are both excellent, in my opinion.
