Jasper, Lord of the Laundry Basket

The recent video that I posted of Jasper (shown here) prompted many of you to send me emails asking for more pictures and stories about this lovely feline creature. Who am I to deny such a request?!
Jasper is a very expressive creature, and I am the truest love of his life. While he is sweet and expressive with others, he is completely and unflinchingly devoted to me. He only needs to hear my voice to seek me out, and there is barely a moment when he isn't at most a couple inches away from me.

When I am not home he seeks out a piece of my clothing and then sleeps with it like a security blanket. When I am home he relishes the time that I sit on the couch so that he can lounge on the cushion behind me, and he loves to drape himself across my shoulders.
When I finally do go to bed, this darling little creature is not happy unless he rests his head on mine, and he will sleep that way adjusting with me as I change positions throughout the night.
He really is the embodiment of pure unmitigated love, and nothing makes him happier than expressing his feeling.
I made the mistake of leaving a little bit of clean laundry out, and he immediately seized the opportunity to claim it as his daybed! I just didn't have the heart to take it from him, so I waited until he moved on and rewashed his newfound "bedding."
I mean really, who could resist this sweet little face?! I certainly can't!

  1. What a sweet kitty! I think Jasper could give a few lessons in love to my cat Tippi. She is pretty feisty and only really loves me when I am handing out ham. At that point I am so very popular with her! She is not a lap kitty but she does consider herself Queen of the Laundry Basket around here (and really, everything else too). Thanks for a fun post on a Wednesday. Cats always give me a boost!

    1. Hi Jill, He really is a sweet kitty! Like Tippi, Jasper isn't much of a lap cat either– he prefers to be close to my head, and is always very interested in head-butting my face or rubbing his nose against me. Ham would probably make him lose his mind completely! It sounds as though Tippi is the Queen of all that she surveys! You are so welcome! I'm glad that you enjoyed this post! Cats always give me such a boost as well! They are such wonderful creatures!

  2. Aww Jasper sounds like a sweetie! The most affectionate cat here is Kissa, probably because she is the only one that actually knows how hard life is out there (Tango was found when he was a day old, and Muffin was rescued pretty soon. I don't think they retain a lot of memory of how bad things were)! Also, what is it with cats and clean laundry? LOL

    1. Hi Sunny! He really is a very sweet boy! I had a feeling what you would say that Kissa was the most affectionate of your kitties. Not only does she know how hard life is out there, but she also felt so awful when she was sick not too long ago– so this is a girl who knows how good she has it, and how loved she truly is! I agree, I don't think that they retain much of the bad memories if you rescued them very early in their lives– when those fears are replaced with love, a home and food when they are young (unless they sustained very serious abuse) then I think that they are able to just forget about the ugliness that they once knew. The clean laundry seems to be quite a hit! When I has a little girl we had a family cat who preferred to sleep in the dirty laundry baker– YUCK!

  3. Oh that precious little face! <3
I never have the heart to move mine off the laundry either. Unless I really and truly need something out of the basket, the pitiful looks received (usually along the lines of, "WHY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME YOU CRUEL AND HEARTLESS CREATURE?!?!?!") are not worth it.

    1. ROFL!!!!!!!!!!! That's exactly it! It's as though you are taking the most precious thing away, if only a sock or two! My husband lost a nice fleece lined jacket that he accidentally placed on Zoe's cat bed (it once lived on the floor, but one day he decided to place it on the dresser instead, and now that is where it permanently lives), and the moment that she saw it she snuggled up in side of this noise and cozy, warm nest. The other day she looked at her sleeping in it so contently, and said that he would really really like his jacket back. I just laughed at him and told him that it is no longer his jacket and that he should probably get a replacement! <3

  7. Hi Jasper, you are soooo sweet baby! My furry baby happens to be a dog. I can't imagine life w/o her. (english cocker spaniel, Winkles is her name).

    1. Thank you, Kath! My mommy says you are super awesome and that she totally adores you, and if my mommy feels that way about you, then so do I! Dogs are pretty cool, I live with two of them. The big one that they call Delilah doesn't get in my face, but that little fur-ball Lucy likes to sniff and lick me. I guess that's kinda okay, but she pretty much a total spas, and does this messy full body way. She's about the same size as I am, and I don't think she thinks that she's a barking cat or something. I kinda tolerate her antics, mostly, but my mom and dad really seem to like her– so I guess she'll be staying at my house from now on. I bet your dog is super cool, my mom said that Winkles is beautiful and that you love her a lot! Thanks for talking to me, people mostly talk to my mom about me, but I really enjoyed meeting my new friends Kath and Winkles! Meow!

  9. ok i'm literally dying of envy inside! i wish we could have a Jasper post every day! oz was an affectionate and needy cat but even he pales in comparison to Jasper's devotion to you. oz was more inclined to give me an offended/put out look if i did not stay still for him and stalk off! i NEED la's first Catfe to open already!!! the weather was cold recently (well relative to la terms :P). did any of your kitties wake you so you could lift the blanket for them so they could get in? oz used to do that. it's not that he can't squirm in, it's just that he prefers to wake you up at 5am so you can perform this service as an proof of your humanly devotion.

    1. Hi Chia-Yi! Okay, I will do more Jasper posts! I definitely think that you need the Catfe to open! Oz sounders as though he was such a profoundly loving and devoted kitty! Jasper is unusual in his devotion, and he gets so worked up when he sees me that he starts to drool all over the place! Interestingly, Zoe is the only kitty that crawls under the covers, and she does it every single morning whether it is cold or hot! The former is super nice because she also keeps me warm, but when it's hot and I want out from under the layers of blankets she protests and forces me to burrow beneath the layers so that she can snuggle in all of the warmth! :-)

    2. yay for more Jasper posts!! i've never seen a cat drool... i used to feel so conflicted when Oz wanted to cuddle in the summer. is it just me or do they seem to want to cuddle more when it's hot and the ac is not working well?!?

    3. I'm glad that makes you happy! Yeah, his drooling is pretty gross, actually! I know what you mean about feeling conflicted, on the one hand the snuggling is amazing and heartwarming every single time that it happens. On the other hand, it is so uncomfortable to have a purring heater in you when it's boiling hot outside! Of course this is even worse if your ac isn't cooperating!

    1. Hello, Honey! I understand that our fur and dander makes some people sneeze and stuff like that, but dude– look at me I am super sweet and I would totally want you to pet me and play with me! My human mommy says that I would probably make you sneeze though.
