Clinique Different Lipstick in A Different Grape | Review and Swatches

Provided Courtesy of Nordstrom during their Trend Event (Affiliated Links)

I have to admit that it has been quite a few years since I really tried anything from Clinique's makeup line, but during a recent Nordstrom Beauty Trend Event the lovely department manager sent me home with a huge bag filled with various gifts with purchase. Among them was a really nice Clinique Gift that included a Different Lipstick in A Different Grape. I have to admit that I didn't take a close look at the contents initially because I was so busy at work, but when I finally did–  I zeroed in on the lipstick. When I opened the tube I gasped when I saw this beautiful berry shade.
According to Clinique,

This lipstick feels silky smooth while giving lips a soft, colorful shine. Its emollient-rich formula is available in a wide range of shades. Different because of its smooth, comfortable feel. Moderate, non-staining coverage. Lightweight.
A Different Grape is described as a pinkish grape from the violet family, and despite its depth of color it does not stain the lips, and it tends to be more sheer than opaque. It effortlessly glides across the lips, deposits color evenly, and it does not bleed or settle into lip lines. It has a soft shine, and looks beautiful on the lips, and I found the formula moderately moisturizing. It is very comfortable on the lips, and feels a bit like a lip balm due to its emollience. I get a couple hours of wear out of the formula, but I have extended it by applying it over a lip liner.

While A Different Grape is a rich buildable color, it can easily be sheered out. This makes it a very approachable and infinitely wearable shade for people who want to try a darker color, but who find such shades out of their comfort zone.
Overall Assessment: A Different Grape is such a beautiful color, and the formula is quite lovely. Clinique offers a whole range of colors in this formula, and all of them are quite beautiful. It's definitely worth taking a look at these lipsticks the next time you find yourself near a Clinique counter. I have my eye on a few other shades now!

$16.00 for .14 oz. from Clinique, Sephora, Nordstrom, Macy's, Bloomingdale's, Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, Saks Fifth Avenue, Dillard's and Selfridges (£17.50) (Affiliate Links).

How is your week going? Here no news of any kind so I am in that limbo between hope and pessimism but the world keeps turning and I have to do my job the best I can. I have to return an article by Friday so back to my work my darling.

    1. Good morning, my dear friend! It is a really pretty lipstick, and such a sweet surprise finding it in my bag of goodies!

Things are going fine here, but I am in precisely the same state as you just described! :-( Try not to get pessimistic– just remember the stress you felt during that horrific wait about the post-doc? Same thing, just keep yourself busy and try not to think about it too often. Now, if only I could take my own advice! Good luck finishing your article by Friday. I am going to a scholarly talk this week, and it is one of those few times that they come to you instead of the other way around! He is a major player in the field, and I actually cited him extensively in my dissertation– so it should be quite a treat hearing him talk and meeting him! My fingers are crossed that you receive work soon! xoxox

  3. This lipstick has been in their line up for decades. It is a staple in their GWP. And, why not? I think almost everyone can wear this shade.

  4. It doesn't really look like what I think grape should look like but it looks like a nice formula.

    1. I know just what you mean! I thought that it would be far more purple based upon the name!

  5. Oh wow that really IS pretty! I've gotta admit, I've mostly shrugged off Clinique as well, though when I do pick something up I tend to like it. They have some nice offerings and I really should pay more attention.

  7. It's a great shade and like you, I haven't tried Clinique makeups in a while. When I used to attend Nordstrom beauty events here in Hawaii, I remember the Clinique counter manager was the friendliest and personable!
