Badger Argan, Jojoba & Baobab Botanical Hair Oil Daily Leave-In Conditioning Review

 Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

You may not know it, but our friends at Badger, who are best known for their iconic balms, also make amazing hair oils, and their Argan, Jojoba & Baobab Botanical Hair Oil Daily Leave-In Conditioning is an unbelievably effective treat for dry hair and damaged hair. It has a delightful citrus scent that elevates the mood delights the senses, and is so pleasant to use that you might even be inclined to drench yourself in it!

According to Badger,

Argan Oil penetrates deeply to repair damaged hair and smooth split ends.
Baobab Oil strengthens the hair cuticle and improves elasticity, to restore and maintain healthy hair.
Can be used daily as a leave-in conditioner, or as a weekly intensive treatment.
Moisturize & Repair The right oil is the cornerstone for healthy hair. When hair is healthy, it looks shiny and bright because light reflects from its smooth surface. Damaged hair has a rough, uneven surface that creates split ends, knots up easily, and appears dull and lifeless. When nourishing oils, such as Badger's Argan Hair Oil is applied to damaged hair, it reestablishes its healthy balance and protects hair from heat, chemicals, and UV damage.

...if one oil is great, a blend of nourishing oils must be outstanding! Precious Argan Oil is rich in vitamins, proteins, and essential fatty acids, which strengthen and soften hair at the same time. Jojoba deeply moisturizes, while Baobab strengthens. Each oil selected for this blend contains potent antioxidants that prevent free radical damage, and protect hair from the elements.

Directions for use:
Step 1: Apply Argan Hair Oil evenly and sparingly to damp, clean hair. Work from the tips to the roots, starting from the back of the head working forward. Amount will vary depending on hair type and length. Use a few drops to 1 pump for normal to thick hair or a few drops to 2 pumps for thick, dry and damaged hair.
Step 2: Style as usual and enjoy beautifully soft, healthy, shiny hair.

That I have naturally curly hair means that it tends to be inherently dry, and as a result I have to continually add nourishment to keep my tresses happy and healthy. Badger truly made a masterpiece with this delectable oil not just because it smells scrumptiously good, but also because it works miracles on dry and damaged hair. After trying this exceedingly high quality oil, one becomes immediately aware that very high quality oils can be obtained without going into debt, and this combination makes this exceptional product available to the budget conscious and beauty-splurgers alike ( and without having to make any concessions in quality).

I like to use a single pump that I warm up in my hands before applying it to either dry or damp hair from tips to roots. I kid you not when I tell you that the results are immediate-- my hair is quickly nourished and becomes shiny, soft and silky. If Jojoba & Baobab Botanical Hair Oil Daily Leave-In Conditioning can have this kind of effect on unruly curly hair-- just imagine what it can do for straight and wavy hair! It makes short work of taming and defrizzing even the most unruly hair when used consistently. This antioxidant rich and vitamin packed blend of precious oils works miracles on the hair cuticle, scalp, and the hair from the roots to the tips-- and trust me you will see and feel the difference. In fact, this does for the hair and scalp what luxury face oils do for your complexion-- it imparts a healthy nourished and glowing effect that reflects the deeper levels of hydration and nourishment that occur below the surface. If your scalp is dry try massaging this lovely oil into your scalp, and then brushing it though to the ends before going to bed each night, and you will be astonished by the results.
Overall assessment: Simply amazing!

Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup Compact SPF 29 Shade 4.5 Review

 Purchased by me (Affiliate Links)

Few foundation announcements and launches caused the level of eager anticipation that Armani's Maestro Fusion Makeup Compact did in Armani devotees. Blogs and makeup boards were in a frenzy as they sought more information and a glimpse at any swatches or sneak peeks available. Despite the fact that I was slow to warm up to the original Maestro foundation, which I now love tremendously, I was immediately charmed by the prospects of what this cream version promised to offer.
Giorgio Armani describes the Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup Compact as,

An ultra-fine foundation that perfects and evens skin as it glows in comfort and care compact.  Easy -to-apply, provides buildable coverage and sun protection SPF 29.  Inspired by Mr. Armani's discovery of super organza, the world's finest fabric - a fabric originally used to create exquisite Japanes kimonos.   The patented fusion technology moves like organza fabric on the skin.  Argan oil and vitamin E provides comfort and care. The signature brush-on applicator allows for easy, flawless application. Buildable Coverage  - 10 Hours of supreme comfort and care - SPF 29.

Maestro Fusion by Giorgio Armani, a lightweight foundation with impeccable coverage, is now available in a convenient compact. The multipurpose formula is designed to conceal like a foundation while offering you a quick, easy way to touch-up your complexion while you’re on the go. It gives you a pure, natural finish for any skin type. Plus it even helps protect your skin from harmful UV rays.
The compartment below houses a brush.
The texture of the Maestro Fusion Makeup Compact is a silky cream that spreads effortlessly on the skin.
My expectation was that I would love it as much as I do the original formula, and I was less swayed by the hype that enshrouded this foundation, but instead was fueled by my love of the original Maestro. At first I saw great promise, but then my hopes were dashed. While it has a lovely creamy texture and it spreads beautifully and effortlessly, I quickly noted that it dried out my skin. I was rather surprised given that I have decidedly combination skin with an active t-zone. I then noticed that it began to accentuate my pores, which are by no means terribly enlarged, and felt as though my skin was rejecting it. After several hours of wear-time my skin looked parched. I then ran an experiment and applied it only to my t-zone since my oil glands are pretty active there and the result was the same-- my skin look dried-out and dehydrated to the extent that the foundation became rather patchy and flaky. How could this be that this sibling of one of my favorite foundations, from one of my all-time favorite makeup lines, would cause such a reaction? I have no clue. I was all set to love this madly, but as it turned out my skin said no to the formula. I even tried by prepping my skin with copious amounts of face oil and moisturizer topped off with a face primer, but the end result was ultimately the same. I know that there are so many people who love this formula, and I would have been among them had it not dried out my skin. I suspect that I may be sensitive or allergic to an ingredient or two, but whatever the cause my hopes were dashed.  I realize that I am in the minority here because this is one of the "it" foundations that have people tossing out their older foundations in favor of this new miraculous formula, and it confounds me that it didn't work for my skin.

Have you tried it? If so, what was your experience? Are you a true believer, or were you underwhelmed?

Bodycology Exfoliating Sugar Scrub in Enchanted Forest Review

Press Sample (Unaffiliated Links)

I am a huge proponent of body scrubs, and always have one or two in my shower at a time. They make such easy work of whisking away dead skin, and they reveal soft and smooth skin in virtually no time at all.

The most recent scrub to join my arsenal is Bodycology Exfoliating Sugar Scrub in Enchanted Forest, and not only is it really effective and pleasant to use-- but it is also very affordable.

The Enchanted Forest scent from Bodycology is described as,

The blend of jasmine, nutmeg, and musk in Enchanted Forest creates a mesmerizing and sensual aroma that captivates the senses. Enchanted Forest opens up with alluring notes of Sweet Orange and Jasmine. Mid-notes of Nutmeg, Muguet and Vanilla Crème create an exciting scent that ends with dry notes of Sandalwood, White Cedar and Musk.

Exfoliating sugar crystals refresh skin’s appearance while nourishing Shea Butter moisturizes and rehydrates. Massage gently in a circular motion, and rinse thoroughly to reveal softer skin and light fragrance.

Massage gently in a circular motion, and rinse thoroughly to reveal softer skin, and the light fragrance of enchanted forest. Exfoliating sugar crystals refresh skin’s appearance while nourishing Shea Butter moisturizes and rehydrates.

Bodycology loaded this scrub with lots of sugar, by this I mean to say that it is very densely packed with the exfoliating particles. One might think that this would be too much of a good thing, but it actually has the perfect amount of grit. In fact, Bodycology seems to have really worked out the perfect ratio of sugar to the other accompanying ingredients, and rather remarkably just at the point that you should stop exfoliating a particular part of the body the sugar crystals dissolve-- preventing over-exfoliation. Once you rinse away the scrub you are left with soft and silky moisturized skin, but no oily residue. If you peruse the list of ingredients you can clearly see why this formula is so moisturizing: Bodycology included Jojoba Esters, Shea Butter, Evening Primrose Oil, Sunflower Oil, Avocado Oil, Macadamia Nut Oil, and Orange Oil. The scent  is a distinctive spicy fruity floral, but it does not linger on the skin for very long-- therefore it won't interfere with any fragrances that you may plan on wearing.
Ingredients: Glycerin, Sucrose (Sugar), Polysorbate 20, Silica, Fragrance, Hydrolyzed Jojoba Esters, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter), Oenothera Biennis (Evening Primrose) Oil, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Persea Gratissima (Avocado) Oil, Macadamia Ternifolia (Macadamia Nut) Seed Oil, Citrus Aurantium Dulcis (Orange) Oil, Cocs Nucifera (Coconut) Extract, Ascorbic Acid, Retinyl Palmitate, Citrus Aurantifolia (Lime) Fruit Extract, Juglans Regia (Walnut) Shell Powder, Polyethylene, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin. May Contain: Yellow 5 (Ci 19140), Yellow 6 (Ci 15985), Blue 1 (Ci 42090), Redd 33 (Ci 17200), Red 40 (Ci 16035).

Overall assessment: This makes easy work of exfoliating, and leaves your skin moisturized. Additionally, you just can't beat the price!

Maximum Maximus

Maximus is such an extraordinarily sweet boy with such a gentle soul. Each time that he gazes into my eyes it makes my heart melt, and it fills me with such joy. As big as he is, and despite the fact that he has colossal feet and claws, he gently taps me on the shoulder when I walk by in order to signal that it is time for a good old fashioned Chausie affection session. No matter what I am doing, and no matter how busy that I may be-- I always stop and give him lots of love. His bold, deep grumbling purr is all the validation that I need to know that he's a happy boy, and I am just so grateful that I am the recipient of his affection.

Painted Earth Natural New Phase Anti-Aging Lip Balm Review

 Press Sample (Unaffiliated Links)

It is no secret that I have a nearly irrational penchant for lip products, and great lip balms are among my most coveted beauty staples. I love to maintain soft and supple lips, and tend to reapply my trusted lip balms frequently in order to achieve this end. Painted Earth's New Phase Anti-Aging Lip Balm is less of a traditional lip balm and more of an anti-aging lip treatment, and while it shares hydration in common with lip balms, it also promotes collagen production, cellular repair, and tingle and sting-free lip plumping. The texture is light and soaks into the lips quickly, but leaves just enough behind to protect the lips. The flavor is a light vanilla accompanied by what smells like a light and pleasant fruity floral, but it fades soon upon application. This is a wonderful treatment to be worn during the day or night, and alone or as a base for lipstick. When I apply it before going to bed I really notice how soft, supple and plumped my lips are when I wake up. It's pretty fabulous, actually. While it is pink in the tin it imparts no color to the lips per se, but I do note that the color of my naturally pink lips tends to be further accentuated by this balm. I suspect that it is the mild plumping effect coupled with the increased circulation that causes this pleasant effect. Additionally, New Phase Anti-Aging Lip Balm contains Matrixyl 3000, a potent anti-aging ingredient that is used in many skincare products, to help stave off the ravages of time. I also suspect that this will do wonders to soften vertical lip lines.

According to Painted Earth:

New Phase is a protective and proactive product that promotes collagen production, cellular repair, hydration, DNA integrity and replication, and increased circulation for deeper pink full lip tissue. The formula for this product reaches saturation point, relying on the most medically advanced and clinically proven ingredients on the market today.
Overall assessment: Very nice, indeed.

NEW!!! African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil: Another Game Changer

Press Release & Press Sample (Affiliate links)

My loyalty to the beautiful products made by African Botanics is well justified, and those of you who use this magical line know exactly what I mean. With each new product that they launch, they continue to dazzle me! When Julia Noik, co-founder of African Botanics, told me that they were launching their Pure Marula Cleansing Oil I got very excited!

Marula Pure Marula Cleansing Oil is noted for its ability to:
  • Dissolve impurities & makeup (including eye makeup)
  • Clarify, oxygenate, and soften the skin
  • Regenerate the skin
This lightweight oil is an antioxidant and omega-rich oil that was formulated to gently cleanse and purify even the most sensitive skin types while removing makeup, dead skin cells as well as pollution and other impurities. It is so gentle and effective that it neither dehydrates the skin, nor causes irritation. It is suitable for combination, sensitive and dry skin types.

Use: This lovely cleansing oil can be used in the morning and the evening, and doesn't require double cleansing. Warm between 2-4 pumps of the Pure Marula Cleansing Oil into your hands, and then massage it into your face, neck and décolleté. African Botanics suggests massaging it for 1 minute in a circular motion concentrating on the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin. After massaging, the skin add a few drops of warm water in order to emulsify the oil, and then rinse thoroughly with warm water.

To remove eye makeup: Pump a very small amount onto a moist cotton pad, and then gently hold it over the eyes for a few seconds. With a gentle sweeping motion you will see all of your makeup dissolve. Follow up with a clean water moistened cotton pad to remove the last bits of makeup residue. According to Julia, Pure Marula Cleansing Oil is even formulated to handle stubborn waterproof makeup! In fact, Julia herself uses it to remove her waterproof mascara by applying the oil with a water moistened moist cotton pad, then pressing it gently over her closed eye area for a few seconds, and then wiping it off slowly. Finally she repeats with a clean water moistened cotton pad to remove the last bits of cleansing oil and makeup.

After use my skin is left indescribably soft, silky smooth, supple, and balanced. It gently cleans my face without leaving behind any residue, and it never strips the skin. It also lifts dead skin cells by gently exfoliating, but it never irritates the skin. Furthermore, African Botanics suggests that it, "maintains optimal skin oxygenation while overcoming environmental stress. Minimizes redness, reduces irritation and stimulates microcirculation." It must also be noted that the sensory and tactile experience is soothing to the spirit, while nourishing to the skin courtesy of the warm vanilla scent that is commingled   with the other botanicals.

I have used this cleansing oil when I wear no makeup, when I wear normal makeup, and per Julia's suggestion I applied a full face of makeup to see how her cleansing oil would fare. The result: there is no task too big or too small for this mighty cleansing oil! I don't generally wear heavy makeup, but the African Botanics Pure Marula Cleansing Oil effortlessly removed every single trace, and left my skin scrumptiously clean, balanced, and soft.
How does this magical cleansing elixir work? How do the selected ingredients work their magic?

Marula Oil, which is indigenous to South Africa, is an antioxidant rich oil with high concentrations of Vitamin E and Omegas. Marula Oil is known to reduce redness, improve elasticity, improve firmness, and to mitigate transepidermal water loss.

Moringa Oil, another treasure from South Africa, gently cleanses the skin by lifting impurities without disturbing the acid mantle, skin's natural sebum layer, or by stripping the skin. Therefore, it effectively removes makeup and environmental pollutants without disturbing the skin. Moringa Oil also has an astringent quality that tones and balances the skin, helps to clear blemishes, and improves the appearance of enlarged pores.

Baobab Oil, which is rich in Omegas 3, 6 & 9, hydrates the skin and helps to regenerate skin cells.

Cape Chamomile, which is distilled from wild flowers that are harvested in the Fynbos region of South Africa, effectively reduces inflammation, skin irritation, and swelling.

AHA Fruit Acids from Bilberry, Lemon, Pink Grapefruit, and Sugar Cane serve to gently exfoliate the skin while reducing the appearance of enlarged pores, and by promoting firmness. Furthermore, these fruit acids aid in unclogging congested pores, and improving the overall appearance of the skin by creating a smoother more youthful texture.
Ingredients:
Overall assessment: African Botanics has undoubtedly cracked the code for cleansing oils, and trust me when I tell you that theirs is a cleansing oil to be reckoned with. If you love cleansing oils, be prepared to take your love to a whole new level! A+

$60.00 for 3.4 oz. This amazing product will launch in March 2014, and will be available from African Botanics, SpaceNK at Bloomingdale's and SpaceNK. (Affiliate Links)

Osmotics Cosmeceuticals Lighten FX Serious Brightening Solution Review

Press Sample (Affiliate links)

Who of us is not guilty of periodically sitting outside for longer periods of time than one has intended, and without sufficient sunscreen reapplication? As vigilant as I am in applying sunscreen, last summer I sat under my umbrella loaded up with sunscreen while I sat and read. I was so absorbed that I failed to continually move my umbrella to shield myself from the sun, and I missed a reapplication or two of sunscreen. The result? Overexposure on my chest that mimicked the scooped neckline of my t-shirt. This coupled with any cumulative damage to the area over the years resulted in a small colony of sunspots that serve as a potent reminder of my negligence that day. Therefore, when Osmotics wanted to send me their Lighten FX Serious Brightening Solution I eagerly agreed.

According to Osmotics,

Visibly lightens and brightens discoloration and uneven skin tone, while helping to prevent sun damage.

You can reveal ageless, healthy skin with a luminous, translucent complexion that takes years off your appearance, making everyone look younger. High performance serum lightens and brightens uneven skin tone, hyper pigmentation, discoloration and aging, brown spots with safe and natural, clinically proven ingredients.

The triple-action formula features a new patented molecule to visibly lighten the skin and prevent UV damage; Niacinnamide to brighten, moisturize and smooth and Alpha Arbutin to target melanin production and prevent future discoloration. Lighten FX is also perfect for blemish scars and is completely non-irritating. You’ll see a brighter more even-toned complexion and beautifully, luminous skin. This serious brightening solution is perfect for all skin types and can be used on the face, hands and body.  Perfect for anyone looking for a brighter, luminous complexion.
  • Visibly lightens discoloration, uneven skin tone & brown spots
  • Triple action formula safely delivers fast, effective results without irritation
  • Helps prevent future discoloration and damage from UV radiation
  • All Skin Types
My experience: I somehow expected that Lighten FX was going to sting or at least tingle, but I found it non-irritating on my skin. I simply apply a pump or two in the morning and at night and then follow with the rest of my skincare routine. It soaks in quickly and leaves behind no greasy film or residue. After a couple of weeks of use I noted that my sunspots became less prominent, and really showed signs of fading away. It was after three weeks that I could really see a difference. The longer that I use it the better the effects. Of course I wish that I hadn't sustained the sun damage in the first place, and rest assured this coming summer I will be very mindful not to repeat what I did last summer, but I do have a new tool in my arsenal to deal with sunspots when they rear their ugly heads. It really works like a charm.

Ingredients: Purified Water, Cyclomethicone, Dimethicone, Dimethiconol, Cetyl Palmitate, Sorbitan Palmitate, Sorbitan Olivate, Cetearyl Olivate, Glycerin, Squalane, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Dimethylmethoxy Chromanyl Palmitate, Alpha Arbutin, Niacinamide, Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C), Mica, Titanium Dioxide, Methylmethacrylate Crosspolymer, Carbomer, Potassium Sorbate, Phenoxyethanol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Tromethamine.

Featured Ingredients and attributes:
  • Dimethylmethoxyl Chromanyl Palmitate – inhibits tyrosinase activity; significantly lightens and brightens skin tone. Also helps prevent skin damage from UV radiation. Completely safe and non-toxic.
  • Alpha Arbutin – a natural lightening ingredient derived from Mulberry Extract. Inhibits melanin production to prevent future discoloration.
  • Niacinamide – brightens, moisturizes and smoothes; has natural anti-wrinkle properties.
Suggested use:  Apply one to two pumps to clean, dry skin. For best results use morning and night, before bedtime.  Proceed with your daily skin care regimen.

Note: It is important to use sun protection daily to prevent future discoloration.
Overall assessment: This is a very effective sunspot lightening formula, and I am very happy to have it. However, before you try to treat sunspots on your own do yourself a favor and see your dermatologist to make absolutely positively sure that what you perceive to be sunspots isn't actually precancerous or cancerous lesions. Sometimes what appears to be a benign sunspot can actually be a malignancy, and the last thing that you want to do is add topical treatments to these areas since it could exacerbate an already serious problem. However, if your doctor gives you the green light-- then I think that you will be quite pleased by the results from Osmotics Cosmeceuticals Lighten FX Serious Brightening Solution.

ChapStick Limited Edition Pomegranate Gumdrop and Citrus Jelly Bean Reviews

 Press Samples (Unaffiliated Links)
ChapStick is celebrating the arrival of spring by launching fun limited edition flavors that welcome the season. I received Pomegranate Gumdrop and Citrus Jelly Bean which will be available for a limited time beginning March 1, 2014 at Walmart, CVS and Walgreens for the MSRP of $0.99 - $2.18.
According to ChapStick:

Making lips soft and sweet, these on-trend flavors are formulated to moisturize lips, while imparting delectable fruit and candy scents-- sure to keep lips looking and feeling their best.

Both flavors smell and taste sweet and yummy, but after a short while the taste does fade. That said, these fun flavors do mean business when it comes to keeping lips soft, supple and moisturized. The texture glides on effortlessly because it boasts a very emollient consistency. While both flavors are pigmented in the tube they impart little to no color on my lips, and swatches were rather fruitless despite their fruity flavors. In addition to staving off chapped lips, these tasty little cuties work double time as bases for lipsticks.
Overall assessment: Yum!

Empties Post Volume XVIII: February 2014 Edition

I was rather surprised that I used up so many full size products this month-- particularly since February is a short month. My biggest achievements were surprisingly with haircare products and makeup.

I managed to finish up my bottle of DermOrganic Intensive Repair Hair Masque (reviewed here). It is a lovely hair masque that did wonders for my naturally curly hair, and it is one that I will happily replace once I make my way through a few of my haircare products.

I also managed to finish up the DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment (reviewed here). This is a wonderful silicone and argan oil based product that does wonders for taming frizzy fly-away prone hair. I have many other similar products in my haircare arsenal right now, but will once again happily replace this once I have the need for this type of produce.

Tom's of Maine Sensitive Beauty Bar with Soothing Chamomile (reviewed here). I really loved this soap. I took to using it in the shower from my shoulders to my toes, and found it gentle and emollient enough to use for shaving. A definite repurchase.

Clarins UV Plus Ecran Multi-Protection SPF 40 (reviewed here). This remains one of my all-time favorite sunscreens. I apply it first thing in the morning, but my reapplications throughout the day are now done with Goldfaden MD Sun Visor Ultra Light Oil Free SPF 30 Mist (reviewed here) because this miraculous sunscreen mist does not disturb your makeup!

Aubrey Honeysuckle Rose Shampoo and Conditioner (discussed here): While I have never published an in-depth review of these beauties I have repurchased them many many many times over the years. They make my hair soft with shiny happy curls, and the scent evokes a spring stroll in a beautifully fragrant garden. I will definitely repurchase them before long!

80 Acres of McEvoy Ranch Verde Olive Oil Bar Soap (reviewed here). This smells and feels so good that I have to buy more! It is so emollient and moisturizing that it keeps my hands and body hydrated and happy!

Dr. Dennis Gross Alpha Beta Peel (overview here). This Two-Step maintenance program is so fabulous that a few sample packets was all I needed to convince me that buying a huge box was in order!

I don't usually include hand soaps in my Empties posts, but I really loved the Seventh Generation Mandarin Hand Soap so much that I had to include it. I found it on sale at the grocery store and purchased several bottles. Even during the colder months it didn't dry out my hands!

Of the samples used the two that were the most noteworthy were the Radical Skincare Youth Infusion Serum and the Aesop Damascan Rose Facial Treatment. These two are so fantastic that I have already purchased the Aesop Damascan Rose Facial Treatment, and the Radical Skincare Youth Infusion Serum is on my short list of must-haves.
Undoubtedly my biggest achievement was finishing up 7 makeup products (6 full sized products and 1 sample). On the "regular use" side I used up a sample size of Armani Maestro (I have a full-size bottle), and a Chanel Glossimer in Unity. Unity was already nearly finished up so I decided to use the last bits this month. The other five products illustrate my victorious "dent" in 5 out of the 9 products featured in my series Project Make-A-Dent (#projectmakeadent) learn more about this my series here. I managed to finish up a Rouge Coco Shine in Royallieu, a Chanel Glossimer in Glaze, a Rouge Bunny Rouge Tinted Moisturizer, a Covergirl Liquiline Eye Pencil, and a Chanel Lip Pencil in Beige. Therefore, I think that it is safe to say that I am very pleased with the number of Empties that I generated in February!

What did you finish up, toss, give away, or return in February?

Project Make-A-Dent: The Makeup Edition February 2014 The Epic Breakthrough Progress Check

     October 2013
As you now likely know, I launched Project Make-A-Dent (#projectmakeadent) in October 2013 in an effort to use up some of my loved (yet neglected) makeup. The picture above illustrates the extent to which I had made a dent in each of the chosen products when I launched the series.
     January 2014
Fast forward to January and you can see that the lip and eye products were really beginning to show considerable wear.
     February 2014
However, it wasn't until February that I had the breakthrough that I had only imagined when I launched this series! While all things look a bit more worn, I am thrilled to report that I actually finished five of the nine products chosen!!
    5 full-size products finished!
The lip and eye pencils were fairly easy because I was using them daily, and on one fateful day I went to sharpen both and the last bits of product were exhausted revealing only hollow product-free tubes! WOOHOO! The Rouge Coco Shine in Royallieu and Glossimer in Glaze started emptying at warp speed in January and February because I opted to use them on a daily basis, but I somehow thought that I would still be using them in March as well. Truth be told, I was motivated to finish them so I reached for them quite often. I started to get a bit bored with them, but they were so close to empty that I had to see it through. The real shocker for me was finishing the Rouge Bunny Rouge Tinted Moisturizer! The opaque black packaging prevented me from ever really knowing how much product was left, and though I would tap my fingers along the side of the tube to listen for hollow spaces I never really knew until the last squirt of product that I was reaching the end. Once I cut the package open I decanted the last little bit into a very small jar and used it up from there. I am so thrilled that I actually was able to use up five full sized products!

Here is my question to you: Do I keep the remaining MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge, the two MAC eye shadows (Carbon and Patina) and the Chanel Joues Contraste in Narcisse in the next rotation of #projectmakeadent, or do I pick entirely new products for the next round? Let me know what you think!!

CapriClear Moisturizing Spray is a fast absorbing spray oil that offers immediate relief for dry skin. It was developed by a dermatologist and is ideal for all ages and skin types, but it was created with sensitive skin types in mind. Not only can it be used on the sensitive skin of babies, but it also used with great success by those with Eczema.

CapriClear is part of the Eczema & Sensitive-Skin Education (EASE) program, and received the National Eczema Association Seal of Acceptance that is prominently featured on their packaging.

CapriClear® supports the National Eczema Association (NEA) in their goal of making a difference in the lives of people with Eczema.

According to CapriClear, their Moisturizing Spray is, "a patented, colorless, odorless, non-staining, and hypoallergenic moisturizer made from a single natural ingredient- Fractionated Coconut Oil (Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride), the purest form of coconut oil available. CapriClear® does not contain emulsifiers, fragrances, dyes, preservatives, additives, parabens or any other toxins that can lead to skin irritation."

Safety Information: "For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes. Do not inhale. Do not use if you have an allergy to coconut."

My experience: This is a safe and effective spray oil that leaves my dry winter skin moisturized, soft and supple. I spray it on damp skin immediately following a shower and it makes my skin feeling fantastic. On days when it is particularly cold I prefer to layer it under a rich cream or body butter, but generally it offers more than enough moisture. I also spray it on dry skin and have noted that whether applied to damp or dry skin that my skin is left hydrated and with a pronounced luminosity. This is a really lovely moisturizer, however if you have a sensitivity or allergy to coconut in any form then this product should be strictly avoided.
Formulated without: Fragrance, Artificial Colors, Toxins, Phthalates, PABA, Parabens, Sulfates, Animal Products, Petrolatum, Mineral Oil, and Gluten.

Radical Skincare Anti-Aging Replenishing Extreme Moisture Review

    Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

At the expense of sounding a bit like a broken record, I must once again profess my undying love and commitment to Radical Skincare. As I have previously stated, the story of the Edlich sisters and their approach to creating the best skincare products filled with the highest quality ingredients for themselves, and without the intention of bringing the line to market is nothing short of inspirational.

Rachel developed Rosacea after having her second child and had red bumps all over her face and was completely inflamed. She was on the 3 types of medication that the doctors said she would be on for life. Liz had turned 46 and realized that gravity was real, noticing wrinkles, loss of elasticity and felt like her skin wasn’t snapping back to the way it use to. They both decided that this was the perfect storm and called upon their chemists and scientists and challenged them to create the most powerful anti-aging solution for Liz that could be used on Rachel's sensitive skin. With no regard to costs and with no intention of selling this youth elixir to the larger public, they identified the prime defect in most anti-aging formulas they corrected it, perfected it and then clinically tested it. The results spoke for themselves. A USDA lab compared their formulas to numerous leading skincare brands and the potency results were unbeatable.

Please take a moment to read their radical story can be read here and here.

What Liz & Rachel created in their lab sample bottles which they labeled with a magic marker and used for themselves and their friends radically changed their skin. Liz was stopped on the street asking what she used on her skin, Rachel's Rosacea cleared and friends called having similar experiences and wanting more.

Radical Skincare utilizes Trylacel Technology because it, "enables the maximum concentration of actives for maximum delivery to the skin, and for all skin types." Likewise, "it keeps the antioxidant potency and performance in the cream to deliver maximum benefits and results quickly."

Antioxidants are the best defense against free radical damage and aging. The strongest antioxidants are found in nature’s dark night shade fruits like resveratrol, coffee berry, acai, grapeseed, red wine extract, pomegranate, and cranberry to name a few. Multiple antioxidants are required to fight the numerous types of free radicals. Using one or two antioxidants is simply not enough.

When antioxidants are combined with reparative ingredients in a cream they break down and lose their power, rendering them ineffective to protect your skin from this free radical assault and therefore daily deterioration continues aging your skin. Until now

Trylacel, a radical breakthrough in suspension technology, keeps the antioxidant potency and performance in the cream to deliver maximum benefits and results quickly. By combining and encapsulating maximum levels of powerful antioxidants, clinically proven reparative and soothing agents in a bi-lipid membrane.
This unsurpassed and multitasking cream is the all in one benefits solution for the most demanding skins, in most extreme needs. Infused with cutting edge agents proven to increase hydration by forming a second skin barrier, controlling trans epidermal water loss, fight free radicals, decrease wrinkle depth by 50% after 4 weeks.

    Benefits:
    • Unifies and brightens skin
    • Restore the water reserves
    • Decrease wrinkle depth by 50% in just 4 weeks
    • Provide the skin with elasticity and comfort.
Suggested use: Apply day and night on cleansed skin after Peptide Infused Antioxidant Serum. For radical anti-aging efficacy, follow up with Radical Skincare's Eye Revive Crème and Firming Neck and Décolleté Gel.

My experience: As improbable as it may seem, my skin felt indescribably fantastic after just a single use of Radical Anti-Aging Replenishing Extreme Moisture. This deeply nourishing cream made my skin feel profound and immediate hydration, and it had an obvious brightening effect. My skin was left soft, supple, smooth, and very moisturized. After more than a month of use I noticed a softening of my fine lines, and while my skin is not slack it appeared to have improved elasticity. It is neither too thick, nor too thin, and it boasts the perfect amount of richness. It sinks in quickly and leaves behind no greasy film or residue, and it delivers the perfect amount of hydration wherever it is needed. Initially I thought that this cream might have been too rich for my decidedly combination skin, however using it soon allayed my fears. This cream is very gentle so even those for whom sensitive skin is an issue will benefit from this amazing product. I have many many facial creams, but this is by far the one that I reach for the very most. It is very concentrated-- so a jar will last a long time.
Ingredients: Aqua (water), Simmondsia, chinensis (jojoba), seed oil, sodium hyaluronate crosspolymer, glycerin, aloe barbadensis leaf juice, butylene glycol, vitis vinifera (grape) seed extract, glyceryl stearate, cetearyl alcohol, butyrospermum parkii (shea) butter, olea europaea (olive) fruit oil, polyglyceryl-10 pentastearate, ceteareth-20, xylitylglucoside, behenyl alcohol, caprylic/capric triglyceride, dimethicone, hydroxyethyl acrylate/sodium acroyldimethyl taurate copolymer, anhydroxylitol, squalane, xylitol, coffee arabica (coffee) seed extract, euterpe oleracea fruit extract, euterpe oleracea fruit oil, bellis perennis (daisy) flower extract, hydrolyzed oat protein, panthenol, sodium ascorbyl phosphate, tocopheryl acetate, niacinamide, disodium adenosine triphosphate, malachite extract, palmitoyl tripeptide-5 camellia sinensis leaf extract, lecithin, vitis vinifera (grape) vine extract, allantoin, coffea robusta seed extract, propylene glycol, acrylates/c10-30 alkyl acrylate crosspolymer, hexylresorcinol, sodium stearoyl lactilate, pentylene glycol, polysorbate 60, sodium hydroxide, ethylhexylglycerin, disodium edta, sorbitan isostearate, xanthan gum, bht, phenoxyethanol, potassium sorbate, sodium benzoate, citrus reticulata (tangerine) peel oil, citrus aurantium dulcis (orange) oil, limonene, linalool. Key Ingredients:

Sodium Hyaluronate: Is the key water maintaining substances in human skin. Bad living environment and aging can cause the decrease of HA content in skin, and as a result the water maintaining ability of the skin is weakened and the skin looks dry and rough. Sodium Hyaluronate has high moisturizing and water content reguating function and its solution has high viscoelasticity and lubricity. When HA solution is applied on the surface of skin, it can form an air permeable layer and keep the skin moist and smooth. As a result, it plays a role of wrinkle removing, look improving and health protecting. Hylasome- Delivery system for water and a free radical scavenger. It is highly moisturizing, slow delivery of water, safe and more effective than HA (hyaluronic acid). Has 5 times the water binding capacity of hyaluronic acid.

Tripeptides: Tripeptide has become an increasingly important ingredient in recent years and proving to be the ingredient of choice for anti-aging products. A Tripeptide belongs to the peptide family of amino acids and is basically a specialized molecule and a synthetic peptide containing three amino acid residues joined by peptide bonds. Tripeptides help improve skin condition as well as giving it a smoother appearance and specifically target skin cell renewal through the regeneration of collagen.

Synovea: Some unique characteristics are that it is effective in skin lightening and even toner for normal skin, and effective skin lightening for hyper-pigmented skin. This ingredient is reported to have a protective effect against oxidative DNA damage in human lymphocytes induced by hydrogen peroxide. It is also reported to have an inhibitory effect against the formation of Maillard reaction product. Synovea HR is a safe and effective skin lightener, it can also be used alone or in combination with other cosmetic active ingredients utilizing it’s skin lightening, antibacterial and skin protection properties.

Vitamin E: This active ingredient preserves the skin against aggressivity of free radicals created by oxydation coming from exposure to pollution, excess of sun and age.
    Rachel Edlich
You would never know that this flawless skin beauty had battled Rosacea. We spoke at great length, and not only is she a delightful and highly intelligent woman, but she is proof positive that Radical Skincare products really work. I had to apologize as I studied her beautiful skin, and finally had to tell her that not only did she have utterly beautiful skin, but that it was so hard to believe that she ever had suffered with Rosacea.

If you have sensitive skin, or Rosacea this cream will delight you with its efficacy, delicacy and potency. However, this cream is so phenomenal that it will do wonders for all skin types. Additionally, anyone looking for a potent antioxidant rich anti-aging cream will not only be thoroughly impressed by Anti-Aging Replenishing Extreme Moisture, but will likewise be stunned by the efficacy of the entire expertly conceived, executed and edited skincare line. For me, if ever there was a cream to covet, this is it! Using this high quality luxury skincare line is so rewarding because the results are visible, tangible and real. There are no false claims made, no snake oil sleights of hand, but instead the highest quality products created by two sisters with a visionary approach to the creation of skincare.
Overall assessment: I'm in love, what can I say?! This is my most beloved and most reached for facial cream, and my natural inclination to use it more often than any other cream that I own is proof positive that Radical Skincare is a truly amazing line.
