Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush | Review

Purchased by Me (Affiliate Links)

It is certainly no secret that I have a wild appetite for luxurious brushes. While my most reached for brushes are made by Hakuhodo (including my beloved stable of Tom Ford brushes), I have to confess that since purchasing the Urban Decay Good Karma Optical Blurring Brush– I haven't reached for other foundation brushes. Yes, it's true.

The soft synthetic bristles are densely packed and arc into a rounded dome shape that is able to effortlessly get into the tightest of spaces effortlessly. Whether you apply your foundation to the brush directly or to your face, the bristles do not absorb or waste product, and the densely packed head is able to perfectly distribute and blend foundation to an airbrushed finish.

I have used a variety of foundation types from liquids, to sticks to powders– and the results are extraordinary. While the Good Karma Brush was created specifically for use with their Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup, which I do not own, it is astoundingly effective with all of the foundations in my stash.

Additionally, the bristles, while soft, are quite sturdy. Even after lots of use there are no signs of wear, splaying, or shedding. Furthermore, it has not shed after washing either.
According to Urban Decay,

Flawlessly applies, buffs and blurs your liquid, cream or powder foundation. And like all our brushes, it’s totally vegan! We created this brush specifically for our Naked Skin Weightless Ultra Definition Liquid Makeup, but it works beautifully with ANY liquid, cream or powder foundation – it’s THAT good!

The densely packed hairs pick up and distribute makeup evenly, while its domed top and round shape make it effortless to maneuver around the face. The "optical blurring" comes in in when you apply, buff and "blur" your makeup to a totally flawless finish. (Ahhh.)

Buffing and blurring with our Optical Blurring Brush allows Naked Skin perform the way it was meant to perform – light-reflecting particles are evenly distributed, fine lines seemingly disappear, and you’re left with a stunning soft-focus finish.

Tips: Distribute foundation with brush and apply with a circular motion for a flawless, airbrushed finish.
Overall Assessment: A truly amazing cruelty-free brush that is worth its weight in gold. Seriously, I am completely obsessed with this brush. It passed the Tom Ford Foundation Stick test (one of my very favorite foundations) with flying colors!

$25.00 from Nordstrom, Sephora, Macy's, Ulta, Beauty.com and Selfridges (Affiliate Links).

  9. i'm probably gonna be the oddball on this one but i actually prefer my Sigma F84 Angled Kabuki or F80 Flat Kabuki to my UD Good Karma. i think the bristles are softer and my products get distributed evenly faster with less buffing. i don't use much powder products although i do remember using them a couple of times with good effect even though Sigma labels these as liquid/cream product brushes.

    1. Wow, I had no idea that the Sigma brushes were that amazing! I don't have any of their brushes, but based upon your effusive endorsement– I will clearly need to get at least one!

    2. some of my favorites are E25 blending (they call it blending but it's an all in one eye brush for me), P84 Precision Angled (i like it for blending out my eye concealer), E57 Firm Shader (it's great at controlling fallout and laying down weak pigmented eyeshadows). there's a couple more but they're not available as individual brushes :( i also really love the rose gold ferrules that you can get in a lot of the brushes!
