Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow in Storm Grey No. 27 | Comparison Swatches and Review

Purchased by Me (Affiliate Links)

As every Burberry Beauty enthusiast knows, Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow singles boast a creamy ultra-finely milled texture, apply like a dream, and are long-wearing. The velvety texture is legendary, and their eyeshadow quality is unquestionably superb. Their permanent collection features a well edited selection of neutrals punctuated by a few more vibrant shades, but they are all gorgeous.
Storm Grey No. 27 was among two new shades (Graphite is the other) that quietly appeared at counters and online earlier this year. I didn't purchase it during the initial release, but finally purchased it when I was at a counter not long ago.
Experience natural and earthy tones reminiscent of the English countryside and adaptable to all skin tones. Color selection captures the ease and versatility of the collection and ranges from classic trench coat-inspired shades to smoky metals.

Features:
  • Benefits: Ensures a smooth application and flawless color fidelity throughout the day. From the most natural look to the most sophisticated finish.
  • Protection: Silicones provide extreme emollience and comfort.
  • How to use: Enhance the contours of your eyes to give them a stronger definition. With the applicator, sweep the color gently across the eyelid to achieve depth. Apply to lower lashes if needed, taking it a little lower than you normally would across the eyes. For best results, apply effortlessly which will enhance natural contours of your face.
The innovative composition reconciles comfort with long-lasting wear. Light, yet creamy, this performing powder offers optimal adherence.
Storm Grey No. 27 is a medium cool-toned taupe grey with a satin finish. While it is soft–  it is a bit more stiff than my other Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow singles (such as Pale Barley, Midnight Brown and Rosewood), but it is still very high quality. It glides across the lids with ease and deposits buildable color without any fallout whatsoever.
The refined shimmer creates an ethereal glow– for which Burberry is well-known.
I thought that it would be instructive to compare it to two other available grey taupe shades, and didn't bother comparing it to Tom Ford's She-Wolf since that comparison has been made, and that limited edition trio is not longer available.
NARS Lhasa and 413 BLKR do well in illustrating where Storm Grey falls in the cool grey-taupe spectrum. Storm Grey is deceptively light in the pan, but in actuality is darker on the skin.
Left to Right: NARS Lhasa, Burberry Storm Grey and NARS 413 BLKR (NARS Exclusive).
Lhasa and 413 BLKR pull a touch purple– particularly when juxtaposed to Storm Grey.
Ingredients: Talc, Dimethicone, Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate, Zea Mays (Corn) Starch, Zinc Stearate, Silica, Pentaerythrityl Tetraisostearate, Potassium Sorbate, Chlorphenesin, Tetrasodium Edta; May Contain: Ci 77019 (Mica), Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxyde), Ci 77491, Ci 77492, Ci 77499 (Iron Oxides), Ci 77007 (Ultramarines), Ci 77742 (Manganese Violet), Ci 77510 (Ferric Ferrocyanide, Ferric Ammonium Ferrocyanide), Ci 75470 (Carmine), Ci 77288 (Chromium Oxide Greens), Ci 77289 (Chromium Hydroxide Green), Ci 19140 (Yellow 5 Lake), Ci 42090 (Blue 1 Lake).
Overall Assessment: Storm Grey is a nice cool-learning mid-tone taupe that has the subtle sheen and luminosity for which Burberry eyeshadows are known. That said, this shadow is a bit more stiff than the other Burberry Sheer Eyeshadow singles in my collection. The color itself isn't terribly unique, but it is quite beautiful. If you are seeking a color of this sort, then you might want to try this, but if you have other colors that are close then you may not need it.

  1. A beautiful shade, and very versatile I think!

  2. I'm kind of addicted to shades like this, so it's probably better for my wallet that Burberry isn't really available in Canada. I'll be content with Lhasa and some of its friends (for now).

    1. Me too, Kate! I think that Lhasa is every bit as beautiful! It's still a shame that Burberry isn't in Canada!

  5. I'm surprised this is a "grey" - looks more taupe to me. Gorgeous no matter what, though!

  7. Hey Helen, thanks for the review and comparison! I don't think I've seen those two here, but I doubt I'll need them because they seem too gray for me, and gray is a very very tricky color for me to pull off. I can do something a bit more grayish in my crease, but definitely not as an overall wash!

    1. My pleasure, Sunny! I like grays on you, but no sense in spending the money on this since you already have a nice assortment of grays. Plus you have that beautiful new Burberry palette which is perfection on you!

  9. I think you convinced me. From the name I'd think gray but it seems like a grayed taupe which I like. I love the few Burberry shadows I own.

    1. It definitely is more of a cool grayed taupe. I think that you would like it. It's not as smooth as Pale Barley, Midnight Brown or Rosewood, but it is very nice!

  15. I love Lhasa sooooo much. I have yet to try a Burberry eyeshadow, methinks it is about time. (I have a Nordstrom gift card burning a hole in my pocket, a graduation gift from the hubs for successfully defending my thesis a couple of weeks ago). Maybe tis time to celebrate with Burberry and Tom Ford?

    1. Hi Winni, First of all, and most importantly, a heartfelt CONGRATULATIONS on successfully defending your thesis! WOOOOOHOOOO! What is your field? I didn't have to defend my MA Thesis, or my Ph.D. Dissertation, but I did have to do 2 written exams and my Orals, and I certainly understand that type of pressure! The relief that I felt passing each of these hurdles was amazing. I'm so very happy for you, and relieved for you that you have it behind you! I felt like a bit of a mad woman when I was preparing for my exams! You certainly deserve any of the NARS, Burberry and Tom Ford that your heart desires after your considerable and admirable accomplishment! Congratulations again– nothing makes me happier than hearing such news! xo

    2. *blush* Thanks. It was certainly a lot of work. I finished my field research and had just begun transcribing interviews when I got pregnant with my oldest daughter.....fast forward 4 years and another daughter born and I *finally* finished! Such a relief!

I earned my MCRP (masters community and regional planning) and my MLAS (masters Latin American Studies); it was a dual degree program. My research field is urban agriculture with an emphasis in food sovereignty.

Whew. That was a lot to type!

As for all the Tom Ford I want....well, maybe once I start working again (soon)!

    3. What an amazing accomplishment, and such impressive dual degrees! I'm sure that your family is almost as relieved as you are! Ah yes, the getting the job after grad school paradigm! It will be such a once shift on the one hand, but there is a comfort in the familiarity of living on the academic calendar! Tom Ford will be there waiting once you get that post grad school paycheck, and I'm quite sure he will be all too happy to take your money-LOL! I'm just so thrilled for you! Academic success makes me happier than gorgeous lipsticks and beauty oils by a long shot! Again, such a huge heartfelt congratulations to you!
