Perlier Honey Miel Royal Elixir Facial Serum Review & Pictures

I have loved Perlier products for many years, and remember using their honey bath gel as a teenager. The moment I read about their Royal Elixir Facial Serum I knew that I wanted to try it, and I jumped at the chance to begin using it as soon as the opportunity arose.

According to the company,

From Perlier, the exclusive innovative Youth Elixir with fresh Royal Jelly, the precious secret of longevity of the Queen bee, which lives 50 times longer than the other bees thanks to this extraordinary nourishment. A natural, unique and inimitable tonic, which is capable to give the look of new life into aged skin. It is a true cosmetic prodigy, which mixes the extraordinary regenerating power of Royal Jelly, fresh as if recently collected, (never freeze dried or made into a powder) and the incredible vital energy of true Italian organic Honey for unprecedented age-defying effectiveness.

Key features according to Perlier:
  • Light-weight gel formula
  • Fresh Royal Jelly pearls
  • Cell regeneration
  • Boosts cell energy
  • Helps aged skin appear renewed and more youthful-looking
  • Non-irritating complex of ingredients may be used around the eye area
  • Formula in which all water has been replaced by rose distillate
  • Rose distillate has been shown to have moisturizing and toning properties
  • Formula contains approximately 70% functional key ingredients
  • Use on dull, lifeless skin for a fresh glow.
Perlier suggests that you apply it, "day and night on clean skin, under treatment cream or moisturizer, for 7 consecutive days per month."
My experience: This lightweight anti-aging serum has a very creamy consistency, but it sinks into the skin quickly and definitely leaves it feeling very moisturized. It has a very light scent that seems to be a combination of the honey and the Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, yet it does seem to fade after a few minutes. What I do find surprising is the fact that Perlier opted to include a micro-shimmer in this serum-- presumably to impart a diffused radiant glow. While it has a barely-there appearance on the skin, it does indeed give the complexion a lovely ethereal glowing quality. I almost always add a few drops of serum or face oil to my foundation or tinted moisturizer, so I thought that I would add a healthy pump of Perlier Honey Miel Royal Elixir Facial Serum to my foundation in part to see how well it performed, and to see whether I could detect the shimmer. I have to say, this is now my favorite way to use this serum-- skin is left nourished and hydrated, and my foundation now has that certain je ne sais quoi that makes it look just stunning. It's neither too dewy, nor too shimmery-- but instead it looks just perfect! It is a bit like adding a refined luminizer with skincare ingredients to your foundation, but in fact it is actually a skincare product containing some shimmer!
Ingredients: Rosa Centifolia Flower Water, Cyclopentasiloxane, Glycerin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Aqua (Water), Propylheptyl Caprylate, Olus Oil (Vegetable Oil), Miel (Honey), Bis-PEG/PPG-20/5 PEG/PPG-20/5 Dimethicone, Methoxy PEG/PPG-25/4 Dimethicone, Dimethicone, Royal Jelly, Bis-PEG/PPG-14/14 Dimethicone, Hydroxyethyl Acrylate/Sodium Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Polymethylsilsesquioxane, HDI/Trimethylol Hexyllactone Crosspolymer, Chondrus Crispus Extract (Chondrus Crispus (Carrageenan), Glucose, Dimethiconol, Acacia Senegal Gum, Sodium Polyacrylate, Xanthan Gum, Carbomer, PEG-7 Trimethylolpropane Coconut Ether, Mica, Ethylhexylglycerin, Polyisobutene, Phenoxyethanol, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol Alginate, Parfum, Polysorbate 20, Geraniol, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Hydroxyisohexyl 3-Cyclohexene Carboxaldehyde, Hexyl Cinnamal, Anise Alcohol, CI 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), CI 77491 (Iron Oxide).

Overall assessment: A very nice moisturizing serum, but be forewarned that it does contain shimmer which may not please everyone. While it is a lovely serum in its own right, it offers the perfect boost to my foundation.

  1. i, too, have always loved perlier bath and body products :) i was not aware they made skincare products as well. this sounds lovely, especially how you are mixing it with foundation. mixing a serum with foundation is something i have never done, but i'll try it now! what really interests me is the light shimmer. i have found that foundations which contain shimmer tend to separate a bit over time and become more difficult to blend, so i have basically quit buying them. also, i do not always want shimmer in a foundation, sometimes i do and this sounds like a beneficial option. to be fair, i have a wide range of foundations because with rosacea, ever day is 'anything can happen' and i need a variety of coverage types available.

from the ingredients list (i love, love, love that you do this!) it sounds like a a product my skin could tolerate. the price point is a bit high, but as you point out, it contains 1.6 oz rather than the standard 1 oz. i would love to get my hands on a sample before taking the big plunge.

thank you so much for bringing this to my attention :)

    1. HI Cheryl! Me too, and in fact I definitely have a visceral reaction to their products. I remember coveting their bath and shower gels as a teenager, and it always felt so luxurious to use them. I think that their bath and body products are amazing! This is my first foray into their skincare line, and am really happy with it! Mixing serums or face oils with foundations is a great way to improve the texture of certain underperforming foundations, but also gives that extra boost to great foundations as well. I generally don't like to use foundations that come with shimmer (or HD particles) because I often find that they add too much for my taste. I definitely prefer to control the amount that I add (either with this serum or with liquid luminizers)-- so something like this is right up my alley! The price point is on the high side-- I would keep an eye out to see whether you can find it on sale. I would definitely try to get a sample, and/or track down a tester to play with it first. I'm so glad that you love that I include the ingredients-- I always want to know, and there are far too many people with ingredient sensitivities, allergies etc. therefore I think it's very important to always include them. :-)
