MAC Cremesheen Lipstick in Crème Cup Review

Redeemed via Back-to-MAC (Affiliate Links)

I love that MAC has maintained their Back-to-MAC recycling program all of these years. All you have to do is collect 6 empty MAC containers and return them to a MAC retailer to receive a full size lipstick. MAC even allows you to use their Back-to-MAC program via their website.

According to MAC,

Because we share your commitment to the environment, M·A·C accepts returns of its primary packaging through the Back to M·A·C Program. By returning six [6] M·A·C primary packaging containers to a M·A·C counter or M·A·C Cosmetics online, you’ll receive a free M·A·C lipstick of your choice as our thanks to you.
I had six empty MAC containers sitting in a cabinet collecting dust, but I finally pulled them out so that I could redeem them for a lipstick. I chose Crème Cup, a Cremesheen lipstick that MAC describes as a "a light blue pink." I think that a more apt description is a light blue-based pinky nude-- which is precisely why I chose it. I wanted a nude pink that was swatch-and-go, long-lasting, comfortable to wear, non-drying, and gorgeous-- and that is precisely what Crème Cup delivers. It is very close in hue to Angel, albeit without the frost. I would say that Angel is a touch warmer than Crème Cup, but that the overall effect is quite similar. The Cremesheen formula (C) is a, "Creme-based lipstick that imparts bright full color, with a soft and supple shine" whereas the Frost formula (F) boasts, "Excellent color payoff with medium to high frosted shimmer-and-shine finish."
Hopefully my current edition of #ProjectMakeADent will get me closer to my next Back-to-MAC Lipstick, but I suspect that I have some time to select my next shade and formula! Take a look through your makeup stash and see whether or not you have enough MAC empties (or near empties) to start plotting for your free Back-to-Mac Lipstick!
Overall assessment: A lovely nude pink that is easy to wear and gorgeous on the lips.

  1. I don't care for MAC lipstick which I find terribly drying, but I love their recycling program which works for eyeshadows as well as lipsticks. I truly wish more brands would become proactive about recycling and selling refills. I love beautiful, luxurious cases, but I love an uncluttered and natural environment more :-). Occasionally, a brand will come out with a case that is a work of art (Guerlain's 6 Écrin eyeshadows in the silver scroll-work case comes quickly to mind), so why not make it refillable? And as for the ubiquitous cheap plastic cases, recycle! I think every brand should accept recyclables at the counter and, if that brand wants to offer a reward, all the better. I read somewhere that most people don't recycle the containers for toiletries or cosmetics which means tons of recyclable goods end up in landfills instead. That's a terrible missed opportunity to help the environment. Do I sound like an old tree-hugging hippie from the sixties? You should hear me when I get started on the subject of micro-beads! LOL

Anyway, let's hear three cheers for MAC's recycling program with rewards!

    1. I only have a couple of MAC lipsticks- I find some of their formulas drying, but for some reason have no trouble with the Cremesheen formula, or at least this one. I completely agree with you about MAC's recycling efforts, and do with that other companies would do the same-- whether or not adding a perk as an incentive to make people more mindful of their wasteful habits. I think that Origins still accepts all product packaging (skincare and makeup) to recycle free of charge, but it seems that the EL company is really the only one doing this. It really bothers me to think that so few people take the small bit of effort to recycle all of their makeup and skincare packaging-- there is no excuse to be tossing these things into the landfill! I wholeheartedly agree with you about micro-beads as well!!!!!! :-)

    1. Hi ahhhsoNeo! It's been a while since I have wanted anything from MAC-- just too many collections released that it is too hard to keep up. However, I'm glad that I had 6 empties to do Back to MAC, and I am really happy with this lipstick! It's definitely worth swatching to see if you really like it, but I find it to be a very easy to wear beautiful shade! Have a lovely weekend! :D
