Project Make-A-Dent: The Makeup Edition February 2014 The Epic Breakthrough Progress Check

 October 2013
As you now likely know, I launched Project Make-A-Dent (#projectmakeadent) in October 2013 in an effort to use up some of my loved (yet neglected) makeup. The picture above illustrates the extent to which I had made a dent in each of the chosen products when I launched the series.
 January 2014
Fast forward to January and you can see that the lip and eye products were really beginning to show considerable wear.
 February 2014
However, it wasn't until February that I had the breakthrough that I had only imagined when I launched this series! While all things look a bit more worn, I am thrilled to report that I actually finished five of the nine products chosen!!
5 full-size products finished!
The lip and eye pencils were fairly easy because I was using them daily, and on one fateful day I went to sharpen both and the last bits of product were exhausted revealing only hollow product-free tubes! WOOHOO! The Rouge Coco Shine in Royallieu and Glossimer in Glaze started emptying at warp speed in January and February because I opted to use them on a daily basis, but I somehow thought that I would still be using them in March as well. Truth be told, I was motivated to finish them so I reached for them quite often. I started to get a bit bored with them, but they were so close to empty that I had to see it through. The real shocker for me was finishing the Rouge Bunny Rouge Tinted Moisturizer! The opaque black packaging prevented me from ever really knowing how much product was left, and though I would tap my fingers along the side of the tube to listen for hollow spaces I never really knew until the last squirt of product that I was reaching the end. Once I cut the package open I decanted the last little bit into a very small jar and used it up from there. I am so thrilled that I actually was able to use up five full sized products!

Here is my question to you: Do I keep the remaining MAC Eye Kohl in Powersurge, the two MAC eye shadows (Carbon and Patina) and the Chanel Joues Contraste in Narcisse in the next rotation of #projectmakeadent, or do I pick entirely new products for the next round? Let me know what you think!!

Have you made any progress in the use of your makeup stash? What have you been using? Are you ready single out a few items and join me in #projectmakeadent?

    1. Thanks, Sunny! It became tedious at times because I was getting bored with some of the products-- so I agree with you that I should pick some new stuff to start another round! You should join us! Have a lovely weekend! :-)

  2. Wow, fantastic job and great motivation for all of us who joined you! It's so weird with make-up, you rarely know if you have another month worth of product worth or if it's going to run out the next day. I'd say new vs old products for the new round depend on how bored you are with the remaining ones - if you really have to force yourself to use them now, just pick new ones for the next round :)

    1. Thank you, Monika!!! I'm so glad that it is motivating you!! I completely agree with you-- it's so hard to gauge when things will actually run out with makeup. It's such a great feeling when they do! Thank you for urging me to pick new products for the next round-- I am actually quite bored with the remaining products from the project and could do without seeing them for a while! I can't wait to see your progress! Have a lovely weekend <3

    1. Thanks, Chris! Thank you for voting to pick new products-- I am so sick of looking at the remaining products that I really want to start all over with new products! I'm so glad that I inspired you to make a dent in your beauty stash-- it really feels good!! Keep me posted! :D

  4. Fantastic job! I am excited for you in finishing up a good set of products. I say you keep the remaining in your next set if they are staples, if not switch them out and perhaps revisit them another time. Keep up the good work, this is very motivating!

    1. Hi Kelly! Thank you so much for your enthusiastic support. The remaining items don't feel so much like staples right now simply because I have grown a bit sick of them-LOL! I think that I like the idea of switching them out for other things to reignite my enthusiasm! I'm so glad that this is motivating for you-- that's exactly what I was hoping for! :-)

    1. Thanks, Joyce! Luck had little to do with it-- when I was getting down the the bottom of the things that I used up I was getting pretty tired of reaching for them, and was happy to chuck them into the recycle bin- LOL! I agree with you-- I think that picking new products will make me feel extra motivated. I totally hear you-- if you have misgivings about some of your picks-- then switch them out for things that you are more apt to use! :-)

    1. Thanks, BooBoo! I think that you are right-- new products it is!! I'm pretty sick of what I have left from this version of the project! LOL!

  7. I'm very impressed. I have finished hair and skin items but only mascara got "finished". If you are tired of the 4 remaining then put them aside and see where you are with them a year after you first started to see if you continued to make a dent.
I think pencils are the easiest to use up so add a few to the new rotation.

    1. Thanks, Marcia! Hair and skin products are infinitely easier to get through than makeup. Makeup is so hard to get through, but my success at finishing about these 5 products is definitely motivating me to press on with the project! Good call on adding more pencils into the next round-- they really are the easiest to get through!! :D

  8. Oh my! *_* Standing ovation for you!

Isn't it amazing how fast certain products go when they're your only options? (I learn this when travelling with a very limited selection.) Though I'm still shocked and appalled when a girlfriend mentions the need to buy a lipstick "because she's run out". Of lipsticks. ALL LIPSTICKS. WHAT.

    Sorry, digression :D

For the next round, how about picking an eyeshadow that you use daily (e.g. a transition shade, a highlight?)

    1. Thank you, Kate!!!! That's definitely true, oh but how weary one can become using them over and over again when other beauties beckon! LOL-- the need to buy a lipstick "because she's run out"! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!! Does she only have a single lipstick???!!!! HILARIOUS!

Interesting idea to pick a transition or highlight shade of eyeshadow. I will have to go study my stash-- great idea!

  9. Lola, I'd like to see them in the continuing project so people will really know how long it takes to go through a product!

    1. Hi Erin, That's an interesting idea. I was definitely thinking about keeping the blush in since it is really starting to change shape. I will give some thought to the other things as well. Thanks! :-)

  10. amazing! definitely switch out for new products! i can't wait to see what you pick for the next round! this month, my effort has gone to using different single/duo/quad eye shadows and my tarte off the cuff blush palette. i experimented with a couple of new looks for my naked 2 palette and briefly pulled out my bh cosmetics galaxy palette which was a favorite in the summer but neglected all fall and winter.

    1. Thanks, Chia-Yi! I definitely think switching out for new products will give me some added incentive! I'm trying to choose things that haven't gotten any use in a long time-- so we'll see what I end up selecting. I keep putting back what I select-- so I think I need a little more time to mull it over. It sounds as though your efforts were really good this month-- your selections have also offered you some nice options since palettes, duos and quads offer so many potential looks! Keep me posted!!!!! Have a lovely weekend!
