Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss In Bella Donna: Review & Swatches

 Press Sample (Affiliate Links)

The Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss formula is a thing of great beauty because the formula, texture, color saturation, opacity, shine, and wear-time are nothing short of extraordinary.

Come out of the shadows with high-shine, color-rich Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss that's offered in a wide range of bold colors. Create lips that look full and glossy—sans the stickiness—and draw attention to your lips and to you.

This formulation provides a bold wash of colour and gloss effect, perfect for creating statement lips. The high level of pigment, allows for application without lipstick as a base.

A long-wearing, highly pigmented lip gloss with intense color finish.

Key Benefits:
1. Comfort: Contains moisturizing Vitamin E
2. Intense: Intense color pay off
3. Versatile: Lipstick and gloss all in one

Application: Apply directly or use an Illamasqua Lip Brush. (I believe that Illamasqua has changed the lip gloss tube to one with a traditional doe foot wand applicator).
Bella Donna, described as a Deep Pink, is a very richly pigmented blue-based deepened pink with a hint of fuchsia. The combination of the deeply saturated color, thicker texture, and full opaque coverage makes Bella Donna more of a "liquid lipstick" with a gorgeous shine than a traditional lip gloss.
It applies evenly and flawlessly at every application, and it does so without any feathering or bleeding. It has a delectable rich and creamy finish with a beautiful shine that lasts much longer than any lip gloss that I have ever tried. I find the longevity of Bella Donna to rival even the best lipsticks, and I was astounded by its ability to deliver between 6-8 hours of wear-time. About midway through the shine abates, but one is left with a luminous full coverage highly pigmented color. When it does begin to fade, it does so evenly-- so there is no unsightly patchy appearance. Furthermore, this is a non-sticky lip gloss that while thicker than many remains very comfortable on the lips. I actually find it to be a hydrating formula-- which is always a huge bonus for me. I detected  the slightest pleasant scent/taste, that was faintly reminiscent of fruit or flowers, but it fades so quickly that I can never quite pinpoint what it reminds me of before vanishes altogether. Therefore, if you have an aversion to scented/flavored lip products this one should give you no trouble.
Here I have shown Bella Donna with Illamasqua Eye Colouring Pencil in Seize (reviewed here) because I was struck by the perfect pairing of bold and vibrant hues.
INGREDIENTS: POLYBUTENE, OCTYLDODECANOL, PENTAERYTHRITYL TETRAISOSTEARATE, SILICA, ETHYLHEXYL PALMITATE, TOCOPHERYL ACETATE, LINALOOL, LIMONENE, ALPHA-ISOMETHYL IONONE, BENZYL ALCOHOL, BHT, PARFUM (FRAGRANCE) [+/-MAY CONTAIN: CI 77891 (TITANIUM DIOXIDE), CI 77491 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77492 (IRON OXIDES), CI 77499 (IRON OXIDES), CI 75470 (CARMINE), CI 45380 (RED 22 LAKE), CI 45410 (RED 28 LAKE), CI 77742 (MANGANESE VIOLET), CI 12085 (RED 36), CI 42090 (BLUE 1 LAKE), CI 16035 (RED 40 LAKE), CI 19140 (YELLOW 5 LAKE), CI 15850 (RED 7 LAKE), MICA] [NON-USA SHADES +/-: CI 77007, CI 77288, CI 77289, CI 77000].
Overall assessment: Illamasqua Intense Lipgloss in Bella Donna is an intense lip gloss, indeed. This formula manages to offer the best of what lipsticks and lip glosses have to offer, but does so with greater intensity, longevity, and color-saturation than the many hybrid products and liquid lipsticks on the market. Bella Donna is a hauntingly beautiful color that is at once bold while remaining a timeless classic shade. Simply and utterly extraordinary.

    1. Isn't it stunning?! It really is more of a liquid lipstick than a lip gloss-- and the color saturation, full opacity, and longevity make it a real winner in my book. You still may prefer lipstick since you aren't a lip gloss girl, but it would definitely be worth swatching next time you are near a Bloomingdale's or Sephora. The color is just outstanding!
      Have a lovely weekend!

  3. These are fabulous, even for someone who hates thick sticky glosses -- I tend to blot them down as stains (maybe adding a second layer if I want a 'lipstick' look)! I've gone through 3 tubes of Mistress.

    1. I am so in love with Bella Donna. While I do find it quite thick-- I don't really find it particularly sticky-- to me sticky glosses are MAC Lipglasses. I wonder if it is because I tend to wear Bella Donna in a thinner layer? Mistress is so gorgeous-- I wish that I could wear bright coral/orange shades! Great method of using it-- by blotting it down as a stain or adding a second layer for the look of lipstick. I wonder if Mistress is more sticky than Bella Donna?

  4. When I first discovered Illamasqua this very gloss was the first thing to catch my eye. I've never taken the plunge & purchased it though. Thick glosses have never been my thing. I don't have a local counter to see in person. But seeing it swatched in all its blue pink glory has me thinking I just need to pop it in my next Sephora order & give it a go.

    1. I'm not in the least bit surprised that Bella Donna is the one that has captivated you-- it is gorgeous. It is one of those blue-based pinks that is just so stunning. If you aren't a fan of thick glosses-- then you might try what Kate says above-- she blots hers to wear it as a stain or adds a second layer for the lipstick look. I'm really thrilled with Bella Donna! Let me know what you think of it if you decide to get it! Have a wonderful weekend!

    1. It's too bad that you don't have a local counter- hopefully the whole line will become much more accessible in your area soon! Launching at Bloomingdale's is certainly a big step forward in making the line more readily available beyond certain Sephora store locations.

    1. Hi Emma! Isn't the color outstanding?! It appears as though the packaging has changed to a doe foot applicator (at least that is how it appears online), but this gloss is just amazing.

  9. Woah. That looks almost like a lip lacquer versus a lip gloss. Love the packaging too.
