Tom's of Maine Long Lasting Deodorants & Naturally Dry Antiperspirant

Press Samples (Unaffiliated Links)

I must preface this review by stating that when I was contacted by Tom's of Maine to work with them I was gleeful. You see, I have been using Tom's of Maine products as long as I can remember. The first deodorant that I ever used was their Honeysuckle Rose Deodorant. I was a young teen, and I remember walking around the corner to my neighborhood health food store and opening and sniffing a variety of natural deodorants- and from the moment that I opened the Tom's of Maine Honeysuckle Rose Deodorant that was it. I used this for years and years, and did eventually try a few other scents, but that always remained my favorite. I have always preferred the more gentle approach of the more natural deodorants to the more conventional big name deodorants and antiperspirants that contain so many multisyllabic chemicals. Therefore, all of these years later, I continue to use Tom's of Maine. I should also note that I have used their toothpastes exclusively for most of my adult life! I guess you can say that the products from Tom's of Maine not only resonate with me, but have remained at the core of my personal care products for years.

Long Lasting Beautiful Earth DeodorantClinically proven 24-hour odor protection. Dermatologist tested. Tom’s Long Lasting Beautiful Earth deodorant is clinically proven to provide 24-hour odor protection by using hops and zinc ricinoleate, sourced from castor beans and the mineral zinc, to help absorb bad smells and neutralize odor. This aluminum and propylene glycol free deodorant stick contains conditioning vitamin E and organic soothing aloe. 100% natural fragrance helps to keep you feeling fresh all day!

As Tom's of Maine suggests, this is a long lasting deodorant. I apply it in the morning, and no matter how hot and humid it is outside- I never feel the need to reapply. Beautiful Earth has a fresh, clean and pleasant scent- but it is not at all overpowering. My underarms are quite sensitive, and this lovely deodorant does not irritate my skin.

Ingredients: Propanediol (vegetable source), water, glycerin, sodium stearate, aloe vera leaf juice (organic), zinc ricinoleate, glyceryl laurate, natural fragrance, hops [CO2] extract, Vitamin E acetate, sunflower seed oil (organic), ascorbic acid.

Long Lasting Unscented DeodorantHops inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria. Sourced from castor beans and the mineral zinc, zinc ricinoleate is known to help trap odor molecules and absorb bad smells. Natural fragrance helps mask odor.

The unscented version of their Long Lasting deodorant worked on my skin in exactly the same manner as their as Beautiful Earth scented version. Even during very hot weather, I never need to reapply this deodorant, and it very gentle on my skin.

Ingredients: Propylene glycol, water, sodium stearate, aloe vera leaf juice (organic), zinc ricinoleate, glyceryl laurate, hops [CO2] extract, sunflower seed oil (organic), ascorbic acid, lemongrass oil (organic).

Naturally Dry Unscented Antiperspirant DeodorantClinically proven 24-hour odor protection. New Tom’s of Maine Naturally Dry antiperspirant is clinically proven to help you stay dry and fresh, without artificial fragrances or preservatives. In fact, it applies the same rigorous performance standards of conventional antiperspirants for wetness protection. Naturally Dry AP contains a wetness protection ingredient made from recycled aluminum (which was originally derived from natural mineral bauxite ore). The 24-hour odor protection formula helps keep you fresh all day long and contains a powerful anti-microbial olive leaf extract.

Naturally Dry Unscented is a very effective antiperspirant. I do not tend to use antiperspirants because I don't tend to sweat excessively, but this will work wonders for those who do!

Ingredients: Aluminum chlorohydrate [(22%)], elaeis guineensis (palm) kernel oil, stearyl alcohol, hydrogenated soybean oil, hydrogenated castor oil, talc, dicaprylyl ether, natural fragrance, olea europaea (olive) leaf extract, maltodextrin.
Overall assessment: Tom's of Maine has been with me most of my life, and I don't see that ever changing! their deodorants are amazing!

$4.99 each from Tom's of Maine or their many retail partners (Unaffiliated Links provided for your convenience).

Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Repair Serum- Review

Press Sample/Affiliate Links

Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Repair Serum is an overnight treatment that restores and repairs damaged hair while you sleep.

It has a weightless, non-sticky creme formula.  It resurfaces hair at its weakest points and helps:

-Restore hair from damage while you sleep for a healthy looking start each morning.
-Leaves hair smooth, shiny and soft; without leaving residue on your pillow.
-Resurfaces hair at its weakest points.
- Restores hair from damage while you sleep for healthy looking start each morning.
-Leaves hair smooth, shiny and soft.

Use together with Pantene Repair & Protect Shampoo and Conditioner to visibly erase 6 months of damage.

Pantene claims that Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Repair Serum, "Erases 6 Months of Damage when used as a 3-part system with Repair & Protect Shampoo and Repair & Protect Conditioner."

*I neither used it in conjunction with the suggested products, nor did I  use it for six months-I didn't need to in order to see results!

My experience: This milky creamy serum is very moisturizing, and soaks into the hair quickly. Therefore, it will stay in your hair rather than making a mess of your bedding. It has a fruity floral scent that does tend to linger.

I apply a couple of pumps before bed and massage it in for a few minutes before hopping into bed at night. When I wake up in the morning my hair is remarkably soft, silky and moisturized- quite a feat for naturally curly hair. It also does a remarkable job de-frizzing and smoothing my hair from root to tip. I also noticed that the results were cumulative- thus the longer that I use it- the better that my hair looks. My hair isn't damaged, but has a tendency to be somewhat unruly since it is naturally very curly. That said, my results are so spectacular that I can only imagine what this will do for somebody with very damaged and/or chemically treated hair.
Ingredients: Water, Propylene Glycol, Cetearyl Alcohol, Cyclomethicone, Behentrimonium Chloride, Fragrance/Parfum, Quaternium 80, Methylparaben, Propylparaben, Panthenol, Panthenyl Ethyl Ether, Tocopheryl Acetate.
Overall assessment: Pantene Pro-V Overnight Miracle Repair Serum did wonders for my naturally curly hair- it makes it look and feel silky smooth and deeply moisturized when I use this product, and I definitely see the difference when I skip a night. It's also an affordable treatment which is always welcome!

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill 4 Shadow Shimmer Palette No.10 (Mirage): Review & Swatches

Purchased by me. Affiliate links.
Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill 4 Shadow Shimmer Palette No.10 (Mirage) is a decidedly warm neutral palette, and one that is generally warmer than I tend to gravitate toward. However, there is a gorgeous complexity to this palette that caught my attention-- and still more shocking was the fact that it actually worked on my cool-toned skin, and it made my hazel eyes pop!
The texture of each shade in this quad is creamy dreamy with excellent pigmentation. Each shadow is ultra finely milled and spreads across the skin like butter. While Mirage is a more subtle palette, the colors are quite buildable and are capable of either being sheered out or built up to maximum opacity.
The sheen in each shade is stunning and refined- never a glitter-fest!
Left to Right (corresponds top to bottom in the quad): Pink-peach shade with lovely shimmer; golden-ivory shimmer, golden-peach with shimmer; and a complex warm brown shimmer.
The magnificence it seen in the metamorphoses that Mirage undergoes as the light dances across the surface of these ethereal hues.
Pure unmitigated beauty.
Ingredients:
Overall assessment: Gorgeous and infinitely wearable.

Empties Post Volume XIII: August 2013 Edition

August was a rather quiet month with respect to generating empties- largely because I was testing out lots of different full sized products.

I only managed to get through one full size product, and that was a bar of soap that I used in the shower (the box in the lower left corner). I also used up the remainder of my Perlier 8-Piece Mini Bath & Body Set and let me just say that I loved every minute of each and every product! The tube slain in battle by Lucy was living on my desk until one day unbeknownst to me one of the cats knocked it off of the desk onto the floor, and anything on the floor is fair game for the orally fixated Lucy.

Next to the soap box are two small glass bottles that both contained my beloved Rodin Olio Lusso Luxury Face Oil- I know that you know that I am head over heals in love with this oil, but what you may not know is that I actually love it more today than when I first started effusively gushing about this amazing face oil.

I loved both of the REN products that I used up: The Frankincense Revitalizing Night Cream and their Jojoba Microbead Purifying Facial Polish. Both came from  my nearly used up REN Six of the Best Set that I highly recommend to anyone one interested in testing out the line.

The pile of little Aesop packets is nearly entirely their Parsley Seed Serum- I used some and poured the remainder into a little bottle. I haven't used it long enough to have formed an opinion yet.

The Fresh Brown Sugar Body Polish and Brown Sugar Body Cream are luscious smelling and feel wonderful on the body. I keep meaning to buy a Fresh body oil, and will eventually get around to it.

Other miscellaneous samples were also used up, but none generated enough interest to purchase- nor did I use them long enough to form an opinion.

What did you use up, toss, or give away this month?

Nordstrom Beauty Hair Chalk Review & Swatches

 Press Sample
I have tried numerous hair chalks, but really have to say that the one from Nordstrom Beauty is much creamier and more pleasant to use. Hair Chalks often are rather dry in texture, and can be a bit drying on curly hair, but not those made by Nordstrom Beauty. The chalk sticks will color your fingers- unless you wear gloves, but it washes off effortlessly. These are richly pigmented and very easy to use. There is no cumbersome applicator to negotiate which means that you have more control during application.

According to Nordstrom, "The no-commitment way to add a pop of color to your hair, this pressed powder formula applies easily and washes out next time you shampoo."
I opted to swatch them on my arm rather than in my hair so that you could really see the deeply saturated color.
Left to right: Turquoise, Purple and Fuchsia.
All three colors are highly saturated and very vibrant.
Overall assessment: Excellent quality Hair Chalk! If you are in the market for fun temporary hair color- then look no further than Nordstrom Beauty!

Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill 4 Color Eyeshadow Shimmer Palette No. 11 (Mystery): Review & Swatches

Purchased by me. Affiliate Links
Giorgio Armani introduces four new Eyes to Kill Quad Shimmers featuring iridescent, eye-catching colors with electric shine and shimmer. The real innovation is in the formulation of the powder eye shadow: an intense formula melds perfectly with a satin, pearly veil, producing amplified light effects. Irresistible with its extremely soft, sensorial appeal, the eyeshadow arms the eyes with a flawless weapon all day long.
The moment that I saw Giorgio Armani Eyes to Kill 4 Color Eyeshadow Shimmer Palette No. 11 (Mystery) I knew that I had to have this gorgeous quad. The color story is a taupe-lovers dream come true. Mystery, or No. 11 as it is more frequently called, features four beautifully compatible shadows that are tend to lean a touch cool- but neutral enough so as not to dissuade those with warmer skin- tones from using it.

Each individual shadow is finely milled, is easy to blend, and offers buildable color. This is quad is a stunning, extraordinarily high quality palette- just as one expects from Armani Beauty.
The top shade is a stunning taupe with a hint of grey undertone. It has a lovely luminosity.
The second shade is best described as a golden ivory with beautiful luminosity.
The third shade is a stunning taupe with shimmer.
The bottom shade is a nearly matte dark cool brown (and the perfect eyeliner!).
This is without question my favorite neutral palette in my collection. It is elegant and sophisticated- yet infinitely wearable for any occasion.
This might just be the perfect palette and if you love neutrals! If you generally find that most neutral palettes lean too warm for you-- then this is definitely the antidote to the standard warm palettes.
Ingredients:
Overall assessment: One of my all time favorite neutral eyeshadow palettes. From the quality to the colors themselves- this is one stunning taupe-lovers dream!

Guerlain Blush G Sakura (Cherry Blossom) from the Roses de Printemps: Hard to Find, and a Special Discount for Lola's Readers! REVIEW!

Press Sample (Unaffiliated links)
Guerlain Blush G Sakura was from Guerlain 2013 Spring 'Blanc de Perle' Collection. This was an Asia exclusive that caused many people to go to very great lengths to find this beauty, and left the rest of us filled with desire (and suffering silently). If you suffered from unrequited love because you were not among the very lucky people to get your hands on this gorgeous blush, then it is time to rejoice! Izzy's Perfume & Beauty Shoppe has them in stock, and graciously offered an exclusive 20% off discount for Lola's Secret Beauty Blog readers (for a limited time).

Izzy's has long been my go-to one-stop-shop for authentic luxury beauty products that are hard-to-find, limited edition, regional exclusives, or are otherwise highly sought after treasures. I shopped at Izzy's long before I was a beauty blogger, and have to say that the excellent selection coupled with the outstanding customer service makes shopping with them rewarding and very pleasant. They also run all sorts of amazing specials and have outstanding sales, and they get new stock all of the time! I bookmarked their website long ago, and check their website more often than I care to confess! You will be shocked by the unexpected treasures that you will find at Izzy's!
Guerlain Blush G Sakura is energized with four new shades including pearly white, soft coral, light pink and intense fuchsia. These healthy-glow boosters harmonize perfectly to revive the complexion and give it energy and vitality. Housed in a shiny, smooth, lacquered white case, the cover opens to reveal the most ravishing of colored stripes stamped with a G in elegant calligraphy.
Colors Top to bottom: Soft Coral, Pearly White, Intense Fuchsia and Light Pink.
Without question this is the most beautiful blush in my whole collection. Each color is gorgeous individually, but it is the combination of the four shades that is so breathtaking. It offers an ethereal otherworldly glow with the perfect kiss of color, and it is simply stunning. You can modulate between a warmer or cooler hue depending upon how long you linger on the peachy or on the fuchsia shades with your brush.
Interestingly, and rather deceptively, the colors are a touch difficult to swatch individually- and appear harder than expected in the pan. One would think that this may be a failing, but it is not. I suspect that it is to keep each of the individual stripes of color intact in the compact. However, once your brush sweeps the surface the blush it yields a beautiful and generous amount of blended pigments.
The compact itself is a study in elegance and refinement. It is a two-tiered masterpiece: the top tier offers a generous sized mirror and the blush itself, and the bottom tier houses a brush. While I will not likely use the brush- it is handy to have for travel.
The blush has the lovely scent of violet candies, and for me it it evokes childhood memories since my mom would buy them periodically. I love the smell in part because of this nostalgic association, but also because it smells divine. The scent does linger for a while, but after about 15 minutes disappears altogether (at least as far as my nose is concerned). If you are sensitive to scented face products you may want to smell a few things from Guerlain before ordering this blush.
Left to right:  Soft Coral, Pearly White, Intense Fuchsia and Light Pink.
Soft Coral (far left), which incidentally I think of as a peachy shade, has a beautiful soft shimmer. It offers good pigmentation and is nothing short of stunning.
Pearly White (second from the left) is the most difficult to swatch of the four shades, but it produces a faint pearlescent veil that adds to the luminosity of the blush when the colors are blended together. The texture is lovely on the skin, but a bit hard in the pan.
Intense Fuchsia (second from the right) is a gorgeous shade that allows for buildable coverage, but lacks over-the-top opacity. This shade offers a depth and complexity to the other three shades, and it has a lovely sheen that makes this color such an extraordinary treasure.
Light Pink (on the far right) is an arrestingly beautiful and ethereal shade, and it offers such a gorgeous glowing effect when combined with the other three shades.
Each shade individually is luminous, never glittery. However, it is the combination of these four shades that creates the magical effects of this delightful blush. While it may appear to be an inherently sheer blush, it does allow for buildable coverage if you seek greater saturation of color.
Blended
Varied lighting offers very different effects, but the luminosity always shines through.
Everything about this blush is utterly stunning.
Guerlain Blush G Sakura offers a delicacy and refinement that really does allude to Cherry Blossoms after which this ethereal blush was aptly named.
Ingredients:
Overall assessment: Guerlain Blush G Sakura is just heavenly! Unquestionably the most beautiful blush is my entire collection. This is a magical blush that belongs in the collection of every pinky peachy blush fiend! It is truly amazing! Be sure to check out the wonderful review of this treasure by my friend Bellyhead of Wondegondigo!
