Hourglass makes magical products, all you have to do is try one of their lovely products to know this truth. Whatever draws you to the line-- it is the high quality and product innovation that will make you stay. They make masterful foundations, but their Veil Fluid Makeup really deserves to be in a class all by itself. This medium coverage foundation utilizes the greatest advances in technology to bring us an astounding anti-aging foundation infused with skincare quality ingredients that work overtime in creating a perfect complexion every single time you use it.

Hourglass A super-luxe medium coverage treatment foundation with short and long-term benefits for the skin. Fortified with a pair of powerful anti-aging actives, Veil Fluid Makeup creates the appearance of younger-looking skin. Key Benefits:

Skin Tightener ST™ PH, a plant- and marine-based active, visibly lifts, tightens and smooths the complexion and helps improve skin’s texture

Vitamin E helps nourish, hydrate and protect the skin

Shield skins with broad spectrum SPF 15

Free of oil, parabens, phthalate, sulfates, fragrance and vegan-friendly

Recommended use: "Prep skin with Hourglass Primer. Shake bottle well and apply to moisturized or primed skin with fingertips or Hourglass Foundation Brush. Sponge application is not recommended. Apply one pump to the back of your hand. Starting in your t-zone, take a small amount from the back of your hand (use foundation brush No. 2 for an airbrushed finish), blend down and outwards to the sides of your face. For additional coverage, apply another pump."
My experience: While Veil Fluid Makeup is described as having medium coverage, it is buildable. Therefore, those who prefer a more full coverage foundation do not have to miss out on the amazing benefits of this otherworldly foundation. Likewise, those who prefer a more sheer coverage can easily get their most desired level of coverage by adding a touch of primer or lotion to a pump of the this foundation, or simply by applying less product.

The Matrixyl® Synthe’6™works magic by encouraging the skin to produce more collagen-- thereby helping to diminish the appearance of fine lines. Skin appears soft and supple with visibly improved texture-- even after you remove your makeup at night. I have noticed that when I use Veil Fluid Makeup exclusively for a few weeks that my skin looks much better when I don't bother to wear makeup at all. The results are real, and while I don't have more than expression lines to contend with-- I have been asked repeatedly whether I had something like an in-office medical peel since my skin looks so rested, rejuvenated, youthful, and with a pronounced clarity.

Hourglass sent me No. 1 Ivory, which is described as a fair shade with pink undertones. While the arm swatch appears decidedly yellow-based against my cool-toned skin, trust me when I tell you that it morphs into the perfect shade once it warms up and melts into my skin a few minutes after application.

The formula itself is lusciously smooth and creamy and can be used with or without a primer. However, for the most amazing sensory experience try using it on top of the Hourglass N° 28 Primer Serum (review forthcoming)-- this combination is truly mind-blowing, and frankly unlike anything else that I have ever tried.

  1. Hey Helen, thanks so much for the review! I have the same experience with both Hourglass primers: for some reason, they end up making my skin look BETTER at the end of the day! I haven't tried a Hourglass foundation though. I have no access to a counter here, and I'd always like to try a sample to see if it's the right formula/shade match. Good to hear it's working so well for you!

    1. Hi Sunny! I'm glad that you found it helpful! I agree with you about both of their primers-- they are amazing-- I'm especially in love with No. 28! I absolutely agree with you about trying samples to get a foundation color and formula match. Online swatches are rather meaningless for finding the right match-- not only because the skin-tone of the swatcher differs from our own, but also because monitors can be quite tricky, and aren't uniform or "true." Add to this the fact that some formulas tend to oxidize and change color-- which is to say nothing of one's own chemistry can oxidize foundations! For me, if I can't swatch it or get samples-- I won't bother buying it!

  2. I got a sample of the foundation and it turned on me. Maybe it would work better in the winter though. If I ever go to a Sephora again (I hate malls) I'll look into it. I think that this might be more for oilier skin than mine though.

    1. Hi Marcia, This is precisely why I strongly believe that one should always try samples of foundations before making the purchase. You never know whether they will oxidize until you actually use them for a few days. I know what you mean about going to malls!!!!! While this is oil free I think that all of the anti-aging ingredients make this for anyone with any anti-aging concerns.
