Tom Ford Eye Shadow Quad in Silvered Topaz No. 05 Review & Swatches

Purchased by me (Affiliate Links)

When I went to see Michelle at the Tom Ford counter in Beverly Hills, I had the intention of buying the lovely Orchid Haze Eye Shadow Quad, but when I swatched it against Silvered Topaz- we both agreed that Silvered Topaz was the clear winner for my cool complexion.

According to Tom Ford Beauty,

The centerpiece of the Tom Ford color collection. Each Eye Color Quad is designed with four opulent complementing shades that achieve multiple looks, from a bold, smoky eye, to a sultry slash of color and everything in between. Formulated with advanced color processes, the four luxurious finishes—sheer sparkle, satin, shimmer and matte—offer a spectrum of intensity and effects and deliver incredible shade fidelity and outstanding adhesion. Two custom applicators included.
This quad has a nice range of colors and finishes that are spectacular for the cold weather and the holidays season. Silvered Topaz features four cool-leaning shades (Top to bottom clockwise): a neutral champagne sparkling shade (the quintessential Tom Ford glitter shade), satin grey taupe satin shimmer, a heavenly satin taupe, and a stunning matte plum-tinged brown.
Each of the shades is ultra-finely milled and buttery soft. The colors blend beautifully together, and the overall effect is just stunning. There is absolutely no fall-out whatsoever- even the champagne sparkle shade adheres to the lid without any fall-out. This is the perfect cool-toned quad, and I couldn't be more delighted by it!
Look at the stunning luminosity!
I thought that I would pair Silvered Topaz with Tom Ford Bruised Plum Lip Color (reviewed here & here)- because this combination is just perfect for the holidays!

Overall assessment: Worth every last cent! Truly gorgeous, and perfect for the season (or for any season, for that matter)!

  1. OOO gosh, what an amazing quad! I'm thinking I might have similar shades, but you can never have enough taupe! I bet it's gorgeous paired with Bruised Plum as well!

    1. Hi Sunny, You probably have similar shades in your stash, but the taupe is so gorgeous that it's almost worth the price of the whole quad. It's perfection with Bruised Plum-- these would look STUNNING on you!

    1. Silvered Topaz has a touch of plum- especially when compared to She-Wolf-- which is much more of a cool brown palette when compared. I will swatch them side by side and post them for you Joyce. Bruised Plum is extraordinary-- you definitely "need" it! :D

  3. Gorgeous! I do love Orchid Haze, and I'm sorry to hear that it didn't look like a good match for you. :( I am warm toned, do you think this Silvered Topaz would work for me as well? Looking at your swatches makes me feel like I NEED it.

    1. I love Orchid Haze, and I may end up getting it at some point, but Silvered Topaz definitely looks better on me. I think that Silvered Topaz isn't so cool that it will clash with warmer skin tones-- especially if you warm it up with your other makeup choices-- it's so stunning, and neutral enough that I think that you would be able to pull it off. If you are warm-toned and can wear Orchid Haze-- then my guess is that Silvered Topaz will be to your liking as well. You could actually mix both quads for a nice effect! I fell in love with it the moment that I swatched it!

  4. Indeed, absolutely perfect combination. This quad is gorgeous! The light shade is so pretty and sparkly. I have yellow undertones but somehow cool eyeshadows feel and look better on my skin than warm ones. Now, if I can only muster the energy to put on eyeshadows...
Thanks for this review, Helen. As always, you make me want to be a bit more industrious with my make up.
    Have a wonderful Monday :)

    1. Hi wefadetogray! Silvered Topaz is drool-worthy-- it's just so gorgeous and buttery smooth! The light sparkly shade is really lovely! I think that warm-toned complexions can pull of this quad-- especially if they offset it with some added warm in the other makeup choices. It really is a special quad-- actually my very favorite from Tom Ford!

I know what you mean about mustering the energy to put on makeup-- there are times that I simply can't be bothered either!

I'm glad that you enjoyed the review! I hope that all is well! <3

  5. blogger went weird with my comment, so if you get this twice you will know why :)
At any rate I was saying this was a lovely palette that I was tempted with but I had heard that the quality of Orchid Haze was better than the regular line up?

    1. I'm having some glitches with blogger today as well! Honestly, I felt that the quality was about the same. You should swatch Orchid Haze to see whether you agree. I payed with them both on the same day-- and walked away with this one. That doesn't mean that I won't eventually buy Orchid Haze, but I am quite taken by Silvered Topaz. I think that they may have improved the overall quality of all of the quads-- though there is no question that Orchid Haze cannot be complained about for any reason whatsoever, as far as I am concerned! I think that your review of it was brilliant and spot on! <3
