Mario Badescu Enzyme Cleansing Gel Review

According to Mario Badescu, their Enzyme Cleansing Gel is their best-selling cleanser, and I can definitely see why. (Press Sample. First link unaffiliated).

This non-foaming gel cleanser thoroughly removes the day's makeup, dirt and oil without drying the skin. Papaya and grapefruit extracts are exfoliating alpha-hydroxy acids that help prevent dulling build-up that can cause blackheads and pimples. Leaves the skin looking radiant and pores clear.

They have in no way exaggerated a single claim. In fact, if anything, they have understated the efficacy of this fantastic cleanser. It is, indeed, a very gentle non-foaming gel cleanser that removes every trace of makeup. Enzyme Cleansing Gel has a light clean scent that reminds me of the smell of lots of aloe vera based products that I have used, but that is not among the listed ingredients. This hardworking cleanser lifts dead skin, oil, dirt, and makeup, but does so without stripping the skin.  After use my skin is left unbelievably clean, silky and soft. If you believe that your skin will only get truly clean from using a foaming or lathering cleanser- then be prepared for a paradigm shift!
HOW TO USE: "Twice daily, massage in a circular motion on wet skin avoiding eye area. Rinse with tepid water. Pat dry and follow with toner or astringent." I would only add that I really like to let the cleanser sit on my face for a few extra minutes to allow the fruit acids and alpha hydroxy acids to work their magic- the result is glowing soft and supple skin. This cleanser is so effective and satisfying to use that I reach for it very often. While they do say to avoid the eye area- I have removed my eye makeup with it though it is not intended as an eye makeup remover. I didn't get it into my eyes, but I can't recommend it for this purpose since the company clearly suggests avoiding the eye area. This is, no doubt, because you will want to avoid getting alpha hydroxy acid and fruit acids in your eyes. So I would suggest heeding their suggestion, as will I in the future.
Ingredients: Deionized Water (Aqua), Glycerin, Papaya (Carica Papaya Fruit) Extract, Grapefruit (Citrus Grandis Fruit) Extract, Monomide,Triethanolamine, Methylparaben.

Overall assessment: A new staple.
