Dupe Alert: Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy & Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Edition!

When I reviewed Hourglass Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Edition, Sara made the comment that it reminded her of her favorite Chanel Rouge Coco Shine in Boy- which was precisely what I had thought when I swatched it.
I decided to find Boy and swatch them to see, and wouldn't you know it- they are nearly identical!
In fact, so much so that if you have one and are considering purchasing the other- then you might want to give it a second thought.
That said, if you are thinking of the other because of the formula rather than the shade- then I can't argue with you there. However, you might just choose another color instead.
Both are infinitely wearable sheer pinks with some shimmer, and I like them both a lot. I am not surprised to find dupes in my stash, but probably will only end up replacing one of these instead of both.
Do you have either, or both? What are your thoughts?

    1. Amazing how close they are, don't you think? Honestly I probably wouldn't have purchased both if I had realized that they were nearly identical! :-)

  3. Maybe it is just me, but I getting to where I don't like sheer lipsticks and would rather have the opaque ones with more color. I notice more of the cosmetic companies are making "sheer" lipsticks, with these becoming more of the normal variety offered. I think they are getting full price for an item that doesn't have as much color. I think they should charge less for this sheer lipstick. But I so LOVE lipstick and need the color because I am pale!

    1. Hi!! I don't think that it is just you at all! I think that lots of people feel the same way about spending an exorbitant amount of money on what many consider little more than expensive tinted lip balms. I think that you keep company with a great many people who prefer to spend their money on opaque lipsticks. While I like both types of coverage- I am a lip gloss girl at heart- so I tend to like the hybrid lipstick formulas. However, I haven't been able to bring myself to exceed the $30.00 +/- price point.

  4. They're not the sort of shades I grab for at all, but your swatches are lovely! Now I'm tempted. :)

    1. Thanks, Liz-- as you have known for some time- I am quite fond of these sorts of shades, but I also find that I need to be careful so that I don't repeatedly buy the same colors over and over again!

  5. Ooo, pretty! I had no idea they were so similar! I've probably gone back and forth as to whether or not I should pick up Boy about 15 times now! Which formula do you prefer? I haven't tried either surprisingly.

    1. Hi Tiffany!!! It's pretty crazy that they really are nearly identical! That's a really tough question, but if I could only have one of them I think that I might choose Boy. I remain so enchanted by that shade, and probably also the nod to Coco's great love. Both formulas are wonderful, but Boy is sprinkled with a touch of magic because of the history. I would swatch both and see if you prefer one to the other. I also think that I prefer the rose taste of Boy. If you are a fan of the Rouge Coco Shine formula- then you should definitely swatch it. Both do run quite sheer though. Thanks for stopping by. BTW- I LOVE YOUR BLOG! :-)

  7. They do look very close. Just a little colour difference. I have to say I like Edition more. :)

    1. They are quite close, but I think that Edition is a touch more pink. I do love both, but I don't think that I will replace both when the time comes since they are a touch too close. It will take forever to get to that point though since I seldom finish lipsticks! I think that you would like Edition in person! :-)
