Abeeco Bee Venom Mask Review

Press Sample

I have to confess that Bee Venom products, despite their recent popularity, were among the short list of things that I have been nervous to try, but I decided to try one in spite of my fear.

According Abeeco, their Bee Venom Mask was created to give the skin a youthful radiance.

Combining natural elements of New Zealand Bee Venom and Manuka Honey, the Abeeco Bee Venom Mask organically works in sync to plump, lift and firm the look of skin. Considered a natural alternative to Botox, the Bee Venom contained in the Abeeco Bee Venom Mask works by fooling the skin into thinking it has been lightly stung, thus increasing blood flow to the skin and creating a natural glow. Manuka Honey is native to New Zealand and offers numerous skincare benefits including aiding in the regeneration of new cells and fighting wrinkles, leading to a more elastic and glowing skin.

Abeeco Bee Venom is collected by expert New Zealand beekeepers that follow stringent practice to ensure that no bees are harmed during the extraction process. Abeeco has been formulating the highest quality bee and skincare products within New Zealand for over 20 years.

Until recently Bee Venom masks have only been available in the UK using Bee Venom imported from New Zealand. Abeeco are now able to offer this quality product direct from New Zealand using New Zealands rare and pure local Bee Venom and Manuka Honey.  Abeeco have been a trusted New Zealand brand for over 20 years and have great experience working with and developing amazing and effective natural products with the help of our beautiful bees!
How does it work? The Bee venom contained in the Abeeco Bee Venom Mask is used to fool the skin into thinking it has been lightly stung. This in turn stimulates the production of the naturally occurring chemicals collagen and elastin, thereby creating a tightening and smoothing effect. The effects are cumulative, that is, the longer you use it the more obvious the effects will be.  A tautening effect can generally be felt soon after application.

The claims: "Reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and wind back the years! Bee Venom masks have been touted as being a natural alternative to botox...." Suitable for all skin types.
Abeeco's suggested directions for use: "The first time you use this product we recommend you do a patch test. Apply a small amount on a section of your face and leave on for 20 minutes." This product can be used as either a mask or a night cream.

Please note: "A slight tightening sensation upon application is normal, this is just the Bee Venom getting to work.  If you don't feel a tightening sensation, don't worry, it's still working!" I would suggest that if it is at all uncomfortable that you should remove it immediately.

As a maskMassaging gently, apply a generous layer to your face and neck twice daily and leave for 20 minutes. Wash off.

As a night creamMassaging gently, apply a generous layer over the face and neck and leave on overnight.

My Experience: First I must preface this by stating that if you are even slightly allergic to bee venom  then you should not even consider trying this product.

The first time I used this cream I kept thinking of the time when I was a teenager and had a run-in with a bee hive in our backyard that resulted in me being stung about 7 times, and I was worried that trying this cream was going to recreate that event- it didn't.

Some people who have tried this cream have reported that they do not experience any tingling upon application, but I am not one of them. I definitely feel a lot of tingling.

First I tried it as a mask, and as directed I did a small patch test.  As suggested I massaged it into my skin gently, and applied a generous layer, but I limited it to a small patch on my forehead. I left in on for about 5 minutes, rather than 20 minutes- and then I washed it off. My skin tingled the whole time that it was on my skin, and it left my skin red. After about 15 minutes the red dissipated and I noticed that my skin was plumped and moisturized.

The next time that I tried it I applied it to my entire forehead and to the light expression lines between my eye brows. This time I left it on for 10 minutes, and it definitely tingled the entire time. When I rinsed it off my skin was read, and after about 15-20 minutes the redness dissipated. Once again my skin was left moisturized and my expression lines were slightly plumped up.

During the following application I endeavored to leave it on longer than 10 minutes, but concluded that my skin was too sensitive to leave it on longer than 10 minutes at a time. Therefore, for me it can clearly only be used as a mask for a very limited amount of time. As long as I don't leave it on for more than 10 minutes then I can use it once or twice a month.

If you have very sensitive skin, suspect that you may be allergic or even sensitive to bee venom, or know that you are allergic to bee venom- then this product is definitely not for you. If you are like me, and you have sensitive skin- then proceed with caution.
Ingredients: New Zealand Bee Venom, New Zealand Manuka Honey, Shea Butter, Jojoba Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter, Lavender Oil, Vitamin C, Vitamin E. Paraben Free.

Other ingredients benefits: Shea Butter, Jojoba Seed Oil, Cocoa Butter and Lavender Oil to sooth, soften and calm the skin as well as Vitamins C and E, powerful antioxidants that help to form collagen and elastin, essential to keep the skin looking fresh, taut and young.

Overall assessment: This is an effective moisturizing skin plumping dual mask/moisturizer. My sensitive skin cannot tolerate it as a leave-on skin cream, and forces me to considerably cut down the time worn as a mask. My skin tingles the entire time that the mask is on my skin, and upon removal my skin is red and remains so for up to a half hour. Once the redness subsides, I note that my skin is moisturized, and my expression lines are softened. I cannot determine whether the results would be more pronounced if I were able to leave it on for the recommended period of time- because my skin is just too sensitive to leave it on that long.

    1. I wonder if you are allergic or sensitive to the ingredients, or perhaps the Bee Venom itself? You should probably stop using it and consult with your doctor if your skin is irritated by it! This type of product definitely isn't for everyone, and when in doubt stop using it-- at least that's my philosophy, and what I would do if my skin reacted to it in that way!

  3. Great article, my mom is a bit older and wanted to get some bee venom products, I didn't even know there was such a thing, but looks like its a popular approach to improving health. I'm going to grab this cream for my mom. 1. Thank you! It's definitely very popular in skincare right now, but should absolutely be AVOIDED at all costs by anyone sensitive or allergic to bee stings!

  4. I just used the mask tonight and had the EXACT same reaction as you with the tightening, warm tingling and redness!! I looked like I was sunburnt for 15minutes after it :P. I also felt a slight itching so I made sure to wash off the mask after 7/8mins. My skin feels tighter after and softer but I glad I used cool aloe vera after I washed off the mask. Not sure if I should use this again but I'm hoping it wasn't an allergic reaction as I have only heard ravs about bee venom! X

    1. It does sound as though you had the same experience. I just found that I had to leave it on for a shorter period of time, and wash it off. I don't think that I had an allergic reaction, but instead that my skin just won't tolerate it for a longer period of time. If you think that you are having an allergic reaction, then I wouldn't use it any more. If you are having any level of an allergic reaction to the bee venom, then it isn't worth using it. :-)
