Tom Ford Ultra Shine Lip Gloss in Naked Review & Swatches

 Purchased by me. Affiliate Links.
According to Tom Ford Beauty, the Ultra Shine Lip Gloss is "A high-shine, color-saturated gloss designed to achieve bold and glamorous lips. Its smooth and creamy texture has high adherence and easy comfort. It can be worn alone or layered over Tom Ford Lip Color to add dimension to the lips."
The Ultra Shine Lip Gloss has a delightful vanilla scent that is not overpowering, and it does fade rather quickly. The texture of the gloss is quite thick and rich lending itself to opaque coverage- though it can be sheered out. The texture is almost a touch sticky, but not quite- just this side to assure that it is long-wearing by typical lip gloss standards. It actually feels a bit more like a liquid lipstick than a lip gloss, and I find that I get several hours of wear out of a single application. The high shine finish is lush and elegant without being overdone.
Naked is a gorgeous nude beige peachy pink with refined golden shimmer, and it is sure to delight nude lip aficionados. While the color isn't what I would call particularly unique, it is utterly gorgeous.
I wish that I could say that I really didn't like the formula because of the luxury price tag, but I must confess that I am delighted by this beautiful gloss, and the formula is superb. It is so comfortable on the lips that I reach for it quite often, and the color is just stupendous for the season. Naked is gorgeous atop of lipsticks, but its inherent opacity lends itself to being worn on its own. It truly is gorgeous. The brush applicator does have a tendency to extract more gloss than I need for a single application- therefore I do try to minimize waste by scraping it against the side of the tube while removing the wand. The wand itself is quite long permitting you to scrape the last bits from the bottom of the tube- a definite must at this price point.
Top swatches are sheered out, and bottom swatches applied for maximum opacity.
While Tom Ford Beauty doesn't suggest that this gloss is moisturizing, I find that my lips feel conditioned when I wear it.
I varied the lighting of my pictures in order to demonstrate that in some light Naked leans more peach, and in others it pulls a touch more pink. I thought that it might be too warm for my cool-toned skin, but it is surprisingly flattering.
 It really is gorgeous!

Overall assessment: True love. The formula is so lovely that I now have my eyes on Sugar Pink!

  1. ha that's funny that they don't promote its moisturizing qualities -- i always look for that in a lip product! Good to know, and nice swatches :)

    1. Hi Raina Elizabeth, I thought so too-- maybe other people don't find it moisturizing, but it just makes my lips feel so good. I'm glad that you liked the swatches-- it is just such a pretty lip gloss-- I just wish that it was less expensive!

  2. To me, the packing looks very cheap here.

    1. I never gave a lot of thought to the packaging. I don't find it particularly cheap, but I definitely wouldn't say that it is über luxurious either. To me, it's neither here nor there. I do really love what's inside though. :-)

  3. This is really pretty! I wish I could wear a nude lip, but I just feel really weird when I try. Perhaps it is because I am a child of the 80's.

BTW, I am really enjoying the Bionic, Good Genes & Juno. I started out with a sample size of Juno & have since purchased the full size plus the other two after reading your posts. I feel very fancy when I am performing my daily beauty ritual. :)

    1. Hi Sandy,

I had feared the same thing with this nude, but it sheers out so nicely that it doesn't give the death-lips look-LOL!!

I'm so glad that you are loving your Sunday Riley purchases!!! I'm also so happy that your beauty routine is giving you so much pleasure-- that pamper-time is such a wonderful way to enjoy the beginning and end of each day! <3

  5. I know this is a favorite of The Beauty Professor too and I've had it on my wishlist for a long time. Maybe during Neiman's next event I'll order it.
I have one gloss and I don't think the packaging looks or feel cheap. It looks like a nice high end "modern" product. I don't like all the schmaltz that something like YSL or Guerlain does and prefer this.

    1. Yes, she definitely loves this one as well! It's a really lovely nude-- definitely a good purchase during the next NM event. It's nice that it isn't LE!!

I agree that the packaging is modern- rather than over-the-top like YSL or Guerlain. I tend to agree with you-- schmaltz is a great way of describing their packaging. As much as I like those two brands-- I always feel that the packaging is so wasteful. I know that many people care a great deal about the packaging, but I tend not to care too much about it- unless it is very cheap and falls apart quickly. Of course I like for things to be aesthetically pleasing, but I'm always more interested what's in the package! :-)

    1. I totally agree with you, Monae! A girl has definitely got to splurge on a good lip gloss now and again! :-)

  7. I'd have to see it on my lips, but looking at the swatches I think it would look quite nude on me.

    1. It is definitely worth checking out in person! I find that sheering it out prevents it from looking too nude, and makes it look quite lovely! :-)

  8. Gorgeous review...I'm on my second tube of this (and with all the makeup coming into our lives, how often does that happen?!) and still adore everything about its shade and texture.

Let's try to catch up this weekend...xoxo, dear friend!

  9. Hi Helen :)
I recently bought this gloss & love it too! At first when I applied it on my lips I thought "Oh no! It looks hideous!", lol, but just like you stated once it's sheered out it's surprisingly GORGEOUS!

    1. Hi Naomi! Isn't it amazing?! It's funny, I was on the fence about it when I applied it in an opaque full-coverage way, but the moment that I sheered it out a bit I fell hopelessly in love with it!!!!!!!! It is utterly GORGEOUS!!! Have a wonderful weekend! xoxox
