Surya Brasil: Amazonia Preciosa Buriti Extra Gentle Shampoo & Brazil Nut Conditioner Reviews

 Press Samples
According to Surya Brasil, When Surya Brasil emerged in 1995, the first product it launched was Surya Henna Powder formulated with raw materials imported from India. Shortly after, it became the leading company in the henna hair coloring segment, and still ranks first today, a position consolidated in 1997 with the release of Surya Henna Cream, the first hair coloring with organic ingredients. In the same year, the company started exporting to the United States, and kept on boosting exports until the growth in volume made it necessary to open an office in New York in 2001.

In addition to natural cosmetics, the company currently has a portfolio of other natural products designed to promote well-being and developed with constant innovation, sustainability and social responsibility.

The products have earned several certifications from important international agencies such as Ecocert, Vegan, PETA (cruelty-free), Cosmebio and ISO 14001.

New products were launched over time, as Surya Brasil consolidated its operations on the Brazilian and international markets. In 2005, it inaugurated an office in India. From a raw material importer, Surya Brasil has become a henna hair coloring exporter to India.

Drawing on its experience in truly natural cosmetics developed with ongoing innovation, sustainability and social responsibility, Surya Brasil evolved naturally toward developing organic cosmetics. In 2007, the Amazônia Preciosa Line, enriched with ingredients from the Amazon forest biodiversity, received Ecocert certification – a French certificate with international credibility.

Today, Surya Brasil continues to be a benchmark for the market in regard to cosmetics that respect both the consumer and the environment. At a moment like this, with growing global concern for planet preservation, organic cosmetics should not be a mere short-lived trend. Following through with its vocation to work in favor of consumer well-being, Surya Brasil is prepared to innovate increasingly so that it can provide a greater variety of cosmetics for a better world.

‘Driven by a pioneering spirit’ is the best way to define the professional career of Clélia Cecília Angelon. Ten years after founding Surya Brasil, Clélia still persists in her commitment to promote the natural cosmetics concept, not as a marketing appeal – an approach used by many Brazilian companies that claim to be natural - but in its essence, by making products with formulas that meet the demands made by both consumers of the natural world, and by the most serious institutions of this segment.

Among the prerequisites to gain entry into this natural world, it is necessary to be essentially connected to a set of values that drives an enterprising initiative to success by taking actions that are guided by ethics and seriousness in one’s intent to transform nature into formulas widely known for promoting personal well-being as well as the planet’s well-being. This has been Clélia’s business mission, a mission that has acquired special meaning from her own personal experiences as a vegetarian and an advocate of the environment.

'One thing leads to another... food, my way of thinking, my yoga and meditation practices, contact with nature… it’s all part of a lifestyle that I wanted to apply at Surya,' says Clélia. And she has been able to achieve her goal, not only by offering ecologically correct cosmetics, but also by putting forth her ideas in all her interviews to the press and in events in Brazil or abroad.
Surya Brasil is an extremely ethical company that is socially and environmentally friendly as well as being cruelty-free. They make gorgeous products that are as effective and luxurious as they are safe to use. This is one company that you can feel very good about supporting. Thus far I am thoroughly impressed with everything that I have tried (as you will soon see in my upcoming reviews), and am so delighted by their offerings that I can hardly wait to further explore this line.

The Buriti Shampoo and the Brazil Nut Conditioner are both part of Surya Brasil's Amazonia Preciosa Line, this line is nothing short of amazing!

According to Surya Brazil,

The Amazônia Preciosa Line features cosmetic products for skin and hair care, which promote beauty while respecting nature.

They are more than just natural cosmetics; they are organic cosmetics! They are rich in plant oils, essential oils, extracts, butters and other active ingredients that promote the benefits of nature in its purest state, composing a natural and organic formula that is more compatible with hair and skin substances.

The ingredients are extracted directly from nature, native forests or pesticide-free plantations, which are farmed sustainably, without damaging the environment. All its packaging was designed with environmental protection in mind.

Buriti Shampoo ($19.99 for 10.14 oz.) is formulated for dyed and damaged hair. This shampoo is very gentle- even on dry hair, color treated hair, and naturally curly hair. I find that my hair is so moisturized from the shampoo alone that I can even run my fingers through it in the shower without encountering any resistance. It has a very wholesome natural scent that is so pleasant that I almost want to eat it- it might be described as a spicy nutty scent, but rest assured I find the scent delectable (though it does fade quickly). After I have thoroughly rinsed my hair it is moisturized and soft, rather than stripped. It is a really lovely shampoo.

Buriti oil naturally absorbs UV rays, protecting hair from dryness. Rich in Vitamin A. Hypoallergenic and Dermatologically tested.

Ingredients: Water, Disodium Cocoyl Glutamate, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Cocoamidopropyl Betaine, Sucrose Cocoate*, Decyl Glucoside, Dehydroacetic Acid and Benzyl Alcohol, Xanthan Gum, Dipterix Odorata (Cumaru) Extract, Dehydroxanthan Gum, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Mauritia Fexuosa (Buriti) Fruit Oil*, Aniba Canelilla (Preciosa) Essential Oil. *Ingredient proceeding from Organic Farming. 98.5% of the total of ingredients are of natural origin. 23.0% of the total of ingredients proceed from Organic Farming. Natural and Organic certi¬ed by ECOCERT SAS F-32600 L’Isle-Jourdain according to Ecocert standards. VEGAN CERTIFIED

Brazil Nut Conditioner ($19.99 for 10.14 oz.)  is formulated for dry hair. This is another winner for dry curly hair, but I imagine that it will work wonders on dry chemically treated hair, or for anyone who seeks a bit more moisture in their conditioner. I find the nutty scent of this conditioner even more edible smelling than the shampoo, and am tempted to spread it on a piece of toast. All joking aside, it leaves my hair soft, moisturized, and detangled.

Strengthens and reconstructs hair from the roots to the ends. Rich in Vitamins E, B1, B3, B6, Omega-3, copper and zinc. Hypoallergenic and dermatologically tested.

Ingredients: Water, Aloe Barbadensis Leaf Juice*, Cetearyl Olivate, Sorbitan Olivate, Glyceryl Stearate, Orbignya Oleifera (Babaçu) Seed Oil*, Dehydroacetic Acid (e) Benzyl Alcohol, Theobroma Grandiflorum (Cupuaçu) Seed Butter*, Bertholletia Excelsa (Castanha-do-Brasil) Seed Oil*, Dipterix Odorata (Cumaru) Extract, Glycerin, Citric Acid, Aniba Canelilla (Preciosa) Essential Oil.
*Ingredient proceeding from Organic Farming. 98.7% of the total of ingredients are of natural origin. 13.5% of the total of ingredients proceed from Organic Farming.

Overall assessment: My dry curly hair really loves both of these products! This is a healthy line with a social conscience, and I feel very good about using this line not only for this reason, but also because the products are fantastic. They also have amazing lip balms that I will reviewing soon!

    1. They are really lovely, kissandmakeup! I like using more natural hair products as well-- though I do still use others that aren't so natural! :-)

  2. They really are lovely products. They are so nourishing on the hair, and the ingredients are phenomenal. I definitely keep several natural hair products in rotation, but also use others that aren't quite so natural as well. Surya Brasil really does a great job!
