Gotukola Youth Spring Hair Mask: An Elated Review!

Press Sample
Gotukola Youth Spring is likely a haircare line that is unknown to you, but after using it- I can honestly say that it is well worth investigating the merits of this line. It takes a very special product to tame my unruly curly tresses, and Gotukola now ranks among the few that truly make the grade.
Gotukola contains the Gotu Kola (Centella asiatica) plant extract which has been used for thousands of years in India and China for its medicinal purposes. It has been used to heal wounds, improve mental clarity, and treat skin conditions such as leprosy and psoriasis. It has been called the “fountain of life” because legend has it that an ancient Chinese herbalist lived for more than 200 years as a result of taking the gotukola herb. In modern days, it is considered as among those that has the potential to treat hair loss and baldness problems. Gotukola is rich in vitamin B and K along with other nourishing ingredients to soften hair as well as providing a protective layer to seal spit ends. In addition, Gotukola’s active ingredients leave your hair and scalp cleansed as well as returning your hair to its natural PH level which will help prevent color fading. Gotukola also contains vitamin E that has a dual purpose that promotes overall health and UV protection. It is also believed to protect the hair follicles from the harmful activity caused by Dihydrotestosterone (DHT). DHT in the hair follicles is considered to be a major cause of male pattern baldness. Our unique formula has been developed in the Gotukola laboratories with an emphasis on preventative treatments for the premature hair loss due to environmental conditions. Gotukola’s products restore and revive hair giving it flexibility and softness.
Gotukola posits, "patented ingredients are one of a kind and our guarantee is that Gotukola products will renew and rejuvenate your hair, leaving it looking and feeling great."

Recommended use: "Apply to damp hair, paying special attention to the ends, leave in for 15 minutes, rinse out and style as usual. Contains Keratin and advanced strengthening ingredients that will allow hair to grow longer while providing a glossy, weightless finish." I like to use it once a week.

While I have used it as the company recommends, I have found that leaving the mask on longer renders even better results. I have tried a few additional methods of use: 1) leaving it on for several hours, and 2) leaving it on overnight, and in both situations my hair was left indescribably soft, shiny, and with beautifully formed glossy curls. It is a true thing of beauty to see naturally curly hair deeply moisturized and shiny, and trust me it is not an easy thing to achieve. It tames all of my frizz and fly-aways without weighing my hair down in the least bit. It also moisturizes so deeply that my hair is far more compliant when it comes to styling. It also protects and nourishes my hair to the extent that when I occasionally abuse it with something like a flatiron or blow dryer this magical hair mask mitigates the unavoidable damage that such tools wreak upon the hair. Anyone who has dry hair will be shocked by the level of moisture that Gotukola Youth Spring Hair Mask delivers to their locks. I think that all hair types will greatly benefit from this product, and I for one plan on using it as long as the company makes it.

I have seen firsthand how this mask impacts non-curly hair, and to say that it creates breathtakingly beautiful and shiny hair is an understatement.

The mask itself has a very dense, thick, and rich consistency. It has a very pleasant and comforting scent that I am at a loss to describe. This is undoubtedly luxury niche haircare at its finest, and anyone who with a penchant for hair masks will likely be delighted by this rare gem.
Overall assessment: This is a professional quality product crafted in Israel, and used at Koji Hair Salon- one of the most prestigious Hair Salons in Los Angeles. This product is so popular there that people often buy several of them at a time because they sell out quickly-- I now know why! All of the products that I have tried from the line have worked wonders on my hair, and this mask is definitely an A+ product. This is now one of my all-time Holy Grail hair products!

$50.00 for 500 ml (Approximately 16.9 oz.) Available from Cinema Secrets, Koji Hair Salon in West Hollywood, and Amazon. (Unaffiliated links).

  1. I am going to have to try this. It sounds perfect for me! I am sucker for shiny, radiant, glossy hair. I am using Wen right now and I am not sure I understand it. My hair feels light and soft yet not really clean if that makes sense. I was using Alterna before which I really liked. I am not sure what to think/do with my Wen one :/
I have so many hair products Lola. I am addicted! Now I need these you just raved about :)

    1. Hi wefadetogray!! :-)
Gotukola is pure awesomeness!!!!!!! I am so happy with their products, and will review the shampoo and hair oil soon. It makes my hair happy- which makes me happy! Their hair oil is fabulous! I am working my way through a bottle of WEN as well. I haven't completely decided how I feel about it-- I like it, but I find that I can only use it for a few days in a row before having to switch to something else for a few days. I haven't tried any Alterna hair products. I'm definitely obsessed with Gotukola right now because it is doing wonders to tame my curly hair! I am also a big fan of deep conditioning masks to keep my hair somewhat orderly! I hope that you love this as much as I do! Let me know what you think of it, if you end up buying it! :-)

  2. Is this better than the DermOrganic Leave In Treatment?
I found a bottle of the DO Treatment at Winners (like your TJ Maxx) and snapped it up.
I got my hair cut last week and the stylist said my hair was healthy but "screaming for moisture!"
I had hoped to find the DO Intensive Hair Repair Masque, but that was not to be.
I'm kind of a hair newbie, apart from shampoos and conditioners. Do hair serums and masks have different purposes?

  3. Hi Boo!

The DermOrganic Leave-In Treatment is an Oil- so it isn't an apples to apples comparison since they are such different products. The DermOrganic Intensive Hair Repair Masque is a bit closer in product type, but even so the Gotukola Mask is a much thicker type of mask. The DermOrganic Mask comes in a pump bottle- and Gotukola is so thick that it comes in a jar. I love the DermOrganic range of products, but would definitely say that this Gotukola mask is much more rich.

Do you like the DO Treatment? I bet your haircut is super cute! If your stylist said your hair is screaming for moisture- then you should probably do a deep conditioning mask once a week and leave it on for a few hours so that it really penetrates deeply.

For me, a hair mask is something that I do about once a week, but serums are something that I using daily. This way you have deep moisture delivered from both sources. Both ultimately work toward moisturizing and ultimately protecting the hair. Think of it as ostensibly the same as using a daily facial serum, and the occasional facial moisture mask.

  6. I have curly hair, so of course, I straighten it. Good to see something new and different out there. I try to use hair treatments once a week, but sometimes I get busy and forget! I'll try to have an at home "spa day" and try this.

    1. Why of course!! I have done that as well!!! I try to do deep conditioning treatments once a week as well-- definitely an important step in "managing" naturally curly hair!! I REALLY love this mask-- it has done wonders for my hair- no question! When I get busy I often forget as well, but I definitely notice the difference when I neglect this step. At home "spa days" are the BEST!!! I really need to take the time to indulge in that more often. If you try this mask-- please let me know what you think. I suspect that you will be as pleased as I am!! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

    2. What does it do for fine limp damaged hair? As well as very dry scalp?

    3. Hi there,

I don't have fine limp hair or a very dry scalp-- instead I have curly hair that is on the dry side, and my scalp is only periodically dry-- so I can't answer your question based upon my personal experience. What I can say, however, is that it really nourishes my hair and makes it look shiny, smooth, and very manageable. I find that my curls become nicely defined, and my hair and scalp feel great. I know a few other people who use this mask, one with medium length straight hair and another with short dry hair, and in both cases their hair looks glossy and very healthy after use. That said, this is an expensive mask and it might be worth calling one of the retailers that I provided above to see whether they think that this mask would be a great fit for fine limp damaged hair with a very dry scalp. Keep me posted! :-)
