Maybelline Color Whisper by Color Sensational: Petal Rebel and Pink Possibilities Review & Swatches

Purchased by me.
After having initially purchased 4 of the Maybelline Color Whispers (reviewed here), I liked them enough to buy 2 more. This time I decided to pick up to different shades of pink with a touch more pigmentation than the other colors that I bought.
According to Maybelline,

  • Pure color pigments suspended in a weightless gel.
  • No heavy waxes or oils.
  • Soft, sexy gel-color.

Top: Petal Rebel No. 60, Bottom: Pink Possibilities No. 65
Left: Petal Rebel No. 60, Right: Pink Possibilities No. 65
Top: Pink Possibilities No. 65, Bottom: Petal Rebel No. 60
Pink Possibilities No. 65 (top) is a lovely mid-tone pink. The color and saturation is buildable.
Petal Rebel No. 60 (bottom) is a lighter blue-based petal pink. This is a soft and feminine pink.
As previously noted in my initial review, "I find that the Colors Whispers are incredibly comfortable on the lips, but the formula isn't terribly moisturizing. However, the four shades that I purchased didn't dry out my lips either. It is a very light gel formula that remains weightless on the lips, and imparts a lovely shine with light pigmentation. This isn't a long-wearing formula, and frequent reapplication is necessary in order to maintain the pretty lightly pigmented shine. Since I didn't choose any of the more pigmented shades, I cannot comment on their pigmentation or longevity. There is a faint floral fruity scent that quickly fades upon application."

When compared to Revlon Lip Butters, the Maybelline Color Whispers feel lighter on the lips, are less moisturizing, are generally less pigmented, and aren't as long-wearing. You may think that this means that I much prefer the Revlon Lip Butters to the Maybelline Color Whispers, but I really like both and find them significantly different from one another.

Overall assessment: I really like the Color Whisper formula because it feels so wonderfully light on the lips while maintaining a nice shine and light sheer color. It isn't a long-wearing formula, but reapplication doesn't bother me. I do wish that they were formulated to be moisturizing, but perhaps more importantly they are not drying on my lips. Pink Possibilities No. 65 and Petal Rebel No. 60 are both lovely pinks that I will be reaching for often!

I purchased mine at Rite-Aid where they were on sale (buy one, get one half off). Regular price $7.19 each.

  1. Hi chickie! Long time no talk. I'm around and enjoying your posts (gosh, I have so many bookmarked as "to comment on"), but I've been MIA due to my MU ban. Gotta avoid/minimize temptation (blogs and such), you know. :)

I like that you're reviewing drugstore items. I appreciate quality and high end, but I've got more of a drugstore kinda budget. Booooo. Do these compare to the Chantecaille Lip Chics, by any chance? I hope to one day get my grabby hands on a LC.
Ps I still have to send you my MtW photos -- meaning you'll be the first to see what my cheeky mug looks like. :)

    1. My beloved BooBoo!!!

So great to hear from you!!!!!!!! <3!!!! I have missed you! I'm glad that you have been around. Good girl for being on a MU ban-- I should really do that one of these days! I hope that you, the Boy, and Nikita are doing well!

While I haven't been on a MU buying ban, I have been spending less time than I would like reading my favorite blogs because I have been so crazy busy with work. Hopefully things will calm down a touch before too long!

I'm glad that the drugstore product reviews please you-- I actually have a few more in store soon. They are definitely FAR more budget friendly, and there are really some great finds in those aisles!

Well, as far as a comparison between the Color Whispers and Lip Chics are concerned- they are both have a lightweight texture, are comfortable to wear, have a nice amount of cushion, and have a lovely finish. However, I find Lip Chics to be moisturizing, ever-so slightly plumping (nearly indistinguishable), and last considerable longer. The wear-time on the Color Whispers is quite short, and there is a bit more slip to the texture. Both are lovely, but Chantecaille makes a superior performer all around (IMHO). While I do not find the Color Whispers moisturizing, I do not find them drying. My only real complaint is that I wish that they were moisturizing. You definitely need to keep up the grabby hands for LC!! They are really lovely!!

I can't wait to see your pictures, and I PROMISE not to post them on the blog- I will just smile happily seeing your beautiful face! <3 xoxoxox :D

  7. When drugstore brands attempt to make fragrance free products, and then offer testers, I will buy their products. I too am guilty of opening unsealed packages, or ones that have been unsealed by others, to check for fragrance and then color. That is how I found L'oreal infinity, I think, lipsticks. They are long wearing, very pigmented (I cut it with gloss), and come in two shades that are perfect for me: Infinite Spice, and Rich Topaz. I actually bought back ups for the inevitable discontinuation. Maybelline also made lipsticks and sheer lipsticks that were fragrance free, but they were discontinued and obviously replaced with these. Oh well, their loss.

    1. HI Ellen,

I know what you mean. Frankly, I think all makeup should be fragrance-free because it isn't necessary-- not to mention that too many people have fragrance sensitivities. Drugstores definitely need to start offering testers-- it's ridiculous that they don't! Bummer that Maybelline discontinued their fragrance free lipsticks! I will have to check out the L'Oreal Infinity Lipstick- they sound fantastic!!!!

      Have a lovely weekend! :D

  8. I've been trying to limit drugstore purchases but this has certainly tempted me. :) Both of them are really gorgeous colors and as someone who prefers lighter lipsticks, these look great. Thanks for the review/pics! :D

    1. I know what you mean, Rachel. It seems that it is pretty easy to end up buying way more than one needs in the makeup aisles of drugstores because the prices can be so good- especially with all of their sales. It's pretty easy to go broke saving money! Plus there can be so many misses when you can't swatch testers to see if the colors actually work for you. That said, I find these Color Whispers to be quite lovely! Enjoy your SUnday! :E
