Le Metier de Beaute Empress Lip Kaleidoscope Review

While I realize that Le Métier de Beauté released their gorgeous Empress Lip Kaleidoscope for their Fall/Winter 2011 Collection, I was delighted to find that they were still available at Nordstrom- so I promptly bought one. Generally speaking, I no longer chase down bygone limited edition products because the frenzy can simply become too much once you start engaging in an exhaustive search for those items. That said, this is a stunning Kaleidoscope, and it required no crazed search.
"Reminiscent of the majestical jewels exchanged along the ancient Silk Road, Le Metier de Beaute introduces EMPRESS, the limited edition Kaleidoscope Lip Kit for Fall/Winter 2011."

"Blending luxury and shine for an opulent pout, Empress features four lush hues."

Top to Bottom:
Imperial Silk—a pale pink for a nude base.
Silk Road—a shimmering red for sheer highlight.
Empress—a delicate mauve mixed with soft champagne.
Plum Satin—a creamy plum for rich contrast.

Swatched Left to Right: Imperial Silk (a pale pink), Silk Road (a shimmering red), Empress (a delicate mauve mixed with soft champagne), and Plum Satin (a creamy plum).
The shades are stunning worn separately
Blended together, using the LMdB couches de couleur method of layering, renders gorgeous results.
Overall assessment: I love the quality of these glosses. I love the way they look and feel on my lips. My lips are left moisturized by these lovely Creme formula glosses that have the perfect amount of cushion. They are not in the least bit sticky and have the perfect amount of shine and shimmer. All of the colors in this Kaleidoscope are perfect for me individually or mixed in whatever order that strikes my fancy. I'm quite happy with my purchase!

  1. As lovely as their kaleidoscopes always look, I'm put off by the idea of having to carry something that size around with me for touch-ups and by having to use a brush to reapply during the day. I kind of wish they'd try doing a smaller set of glosses, which would be more manageable.

    1. I know just what you mean, Kate. In fact, I see them as something to use at home and then leave there. Of course I would take it with me while traveling, but even then I wouldn't carry that bulky kaleidoscope in my purse.

  2. I love their products. I actually just recently purchase their eyeshadow kaleidoscope in Northern Lights and it just makes me want more of their eyeshade kaleidoscope. I have to agree with Kate, the only reason I stay away from their lip kaleidoscopes is because I know I'd have no way of touching up throughout the day. I am, however, considering their amazing blush kaleidoscope!

    1. I am a big fan as well! Northern Lights is a really beautiful kaleidoscope! I love that purple/violet shade! I hear what you about the size being too big and bulky to carry around for touch-ups-- but Naomi does have an excellent point about loading up a retractable lip brush and carrying that with you for touch ups. So far I only have this lip kit, but I ordered another one the other day-- so we will see if I love it as much as this one! Their blush kaleidoscope is really pretty!!

    2. Haha between my Burberry addiction and my Le Metier addiction I'm going to be a perpetually broke girl. I also recently discovered cle de peau...god help me!

  3. Hi Helen :)
Beautiful lip kaleidoscope. While the packaging is bulky to carry around, I remember one of the LMdB makeup artist had a helpful tip for touch-ups, he suggested to use a retractable lip brush. Load up your lip brush with the colors, retract, put the cap on & throw it in your purse. Maybe it won't be enough for a full day, but it's a great idea if your going to a special event for a couple of hours, it should be just fine ;)

    1. Hi Naomi!!
That is a very good point- I have been told the same thing by a MUA before as well, but not with respect to LMdB Lip Kaleidoscopes-- just lippies in general. I don't necessarily stick to the same color all day anyway. I generally carry far too many lip products with me at any given time (as you know), and usually apply the first one that I grab out of my makeup bag- unless I specifically want to use a certain lipstick or lip gloss. I hope that all is well!!!!!! xoxox Helen

  4. I do what Naomi does if I'm going out at night but it's just good for one application.

There's a new one out exclusive to Neiman called Bauhaus that has my favorite light colors. I have to pretend I didn't just write that after IMATS.

    1. Hi Marcia! That is such a smart thing to do!

I actually bought Bauhaus the other day and am waiting for it to arrive!!! It was on sale at NM online for a couple of days ($50.00 off!!!) I went back to look the next day and it was back to $95.00! It was just a stroke of luck that I found it! I can't wait to see it-- especially now that you say it is your favorite!

I am still so sad that I was working rather than hanging out with you ladies at Sassafras and IMATS!!!!!!
