Chanel Poudre Signée de Chanel Illuminating Powder or Chantecaille 'Rose Petals' Highlighter Powder: To Buy or Not To Buy, That is the Question

I'm kind of lusting after these illuminating powders- did you get one of them? Should I? What say you?

  1. I swatched the Chanel one just before Christmas...I wasn't expecting much but it was so PRETTY!!!! Looked really good against my skin tone - I think the Chantecaille would be too chalky on me. The Chanel is on my list!!!

BTW...is it too early to start thinking about the Barneys beauty event?!!! Ha ha :-) I didn't do it last time and somewhat regretted it, so I want to be more prepared this year and have a list of things I really want vs. things that would just be fillers!

    1. Haha-- I was just leaving a comment on your blog!! I swatched both of them yesterday and didn't buy either. I thought they were both gorgeous, but the Chanel was soooooooo finely milled that it was creamy in comparison. As you know, I am more cool toned and thought that the Chantecaille would look better because it is pinker, but both of them actually worked. I'm trying to resist them, but I think that I am leaning more toward the one from Chanel.

Never too early to start thinking about the Barneys Bag Event- LOL! I actually talked to my contact a couple of weeks ago, and she said that she would send me all of the information once she gets it. SO I will be sure to post it as soon as she gets it to me and gives me the green light. I remember that you didn't end up getting anything last time, but you did do dome nice Beautyhabit hauls around that time. There's no point in regretting it-- they have them twice a year- so there is always time to go broke at Barneys- LOL! I am starting to really steer away from purchasing fillers to get a good GWP-- it ends up being sooooo expensive in the long run, and you end up with stuff that you didn't really want in the first place!

    1. No my friend, that's a great answer!! Did you get either of them?

    2. Only the Chanel. Lovely light gold.

Must restrain myself! Tossing wallet in the freezer now.

    3. And it's so smooth and creamy! I'm trying to convince myself not to splurge because I have already spent far too much on makeup lately! Freezer? I was thinking that I should toss mine in the fire place! At least you have the presence of mind to have a blog sale to support your habit! I really need to do that.

    4. I think the Chante may suit you better from the swatches I've seen. More cool and pale toned. SEE! I try to SAVE you money.

    5. I think that you are probably right. Yes-- you are definitely trying to save me money! LOL!!!

  3. You have cool-toned skin, right Helen?? I think Chantecaille's is GORGEOUS and, while it works for all skin tones, would be particularly flattering on cool tones since it's more overtly pink. The Chanel one is much warmer and only has the faintest touch of pink to it, which doesn't translate onto the skin at all, in my opinion. I have the Chanel one and I LOVE it! Of course, you could just go and get both, but that would be bad....right?! :P

    1. Hi love! Yup, I'm cool toned. I think that your analysis is spot on. Aren't you cool toned as well? I always think of our skin tone as quite similar-- but perhaps that is because we have the same taste!!! Getting both is probably more than I need to spend, but that hasn't stopped me from making insane beauty splurges before! DO you reach for the Chanel often? I can't remember if you picked up Merveille Rouge Allure Extrait de Gloss-- but if you haven't gotten it-- you definitely NEED it! :D

  4. Both are gorgeous but I don't highlight so considering a purchase is just silly. I am cool toned so if I were to purchase I think I might lean towards the Chantecaille. But the embossed pattern on the Chanel makes me swoon!

    1. They are both gorgeous, indeed! I don't "need" either, and I don't highlight often enough to really justify the expense, but they are just SOOOOOO pretty. I think that you are right about the Chantecaille being more well suited to those of us who are cool-toned! I agree the embossing on the Chanel illuminator is simply exquisite! I don't know that I would have the heart to actually use something that gorgeous-- though if I spent the money on it I most certainly would use it! :-)

  5. I'm drawn to the beautiful color and funfetti of the Chantecaille. I was actually looking at this on the Nordstrom site. Unfortunately I'm too poor so enjoy it for me too if you get it!

    1. I agree-- I am drawn to it as well-- it's just so gorgeous! I will definitely let you know if I end up with either! Enjoy the rest of your weekend!

  6. Since Chantecaille isn't available here (and it costs a lot to order from the US even in top of the regular prices), I'm waiting on Chanel. But that light pink powder looks sooooooooo pretty. If Zuneta carried this brand, I'd be doomed.

The Chanel is gorgeous-- I can't wait to see what you think of it! :-)

  7. Hi Helen :)
If you have no other illuminating powders I say get the Chanel one. I almost bought it, but told myself no because I purchased Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Moonstone from Sephora with my VIB 20% off code. I love it & it will last a long time. The only item I bought from the Chanel Spring collection is the Merveille gloss & it is gorgeous!
I'm saving my pennies for Burberry's Spring collection & might possibly buy my first piece of Estee Lauder makeup from their Spring line, Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee Blush in Tease. Have you seen it? From the few swatches I've seen online it looks very pretty, but I'll wait till I can see it in person.
Lol, I was already thinking about the Barney's bag event too. Have a few more items I want to try from Koh Gen Do & Tatcha too. Look forward to your post on the info from your contact, always so helpful ^_^

    1. Hi Naomi! I don't have many powder illuminators. I may hold off on purchasing both since I am also waiting for the Burberry Spring Collection! I have seen swatches of the EL blush-- It's so pretty with all of those little pyramids!!

I know, you and me both about the Barneys Bag Event!! I will post as soon as I have concrete information. I have to try to be sensible because I have SOOOOOO much stuff right now! I just don't think that you can go wrong with KGD or Tatcha! xoxox, Helen

  8. IMHO both look like glitter central on the skin in direct sunlight :(
Have you tried the Kevin Aucoin highlighter ? I have been loving by terry or de rose blush/highlighter too :)

    1. Hi LipstickBoulevard! I'm not big on glitter central- even in the sunlight. I'm more of a subtle sheen kind of girl! I haven't looked at the Kevyn Aucoin or By Terry highlighters-- I will have to take a look-- thanks for the awesome recommendation! :) <3

    2. HI :) ya if you dont like the look of small glitter particles on the skin then I highly recommend the kevin aucoin . The illuminate side of the tom ford shade n illuminate and becca skin perfectors are great liquid options :) xoxo

  9. I have been wondering the same thing, I have read one person say the Chantecaille went on frosty so that put me off so was leaning towards the Chanel but then someone said it showed micro glitter on the skin and I also wondered if it was too close to the Lumière Sculptée de Chanel from 2011 Holiday that I already have.So I am not saying anything helpful just sharing the dilemma ;)

  10. I actually own the chanel one and reviewed it on my blog last week. I do like it a lot and have been using it everyday. It is a lot more of a low key highlighter in that is isn't immediately noticeable in certain lighting unlike many other highlighters I have. However, it is an amazing product and I kinda like the fact that its a bit more natural looking. I managed to get lucky on this one and score a $20 off coupon from lord and taylor the day after christmas (I was gazing at it with lust in my eye when the really nice sales rep helpfully proded me with the coupon).

    1. Hi Rachel- Good to know that you like it and have been wearing it every day. I will go read your review. What a score getting a $20.00 off coupon!!!!! Well done! :)

  11. They're both so beautiful, especially the designs on the second one. I'd be tempted too.

    1. Hi Iris, I am trying to resist both- despite my great temptation! I know that I am going to pick up a few things from the Burberry Spring Collection-- so I might just hold off on these. Now if i had endless resources I would probably get both of them plus the Burberry Collection! :)
