Milo & Zeus in Cahoots?

I received a request to post something about Zeus and his recent shenanigans from a Zeus devotee- so I thought that this picture would be funny. As you all know, Zeus is a really unusual kitty with respect to his character. In fact, he's really the least cat-like cat that I have ever known. He definitely leans into his penchant for demented behavior, but while he reigns under the guise of Caligula- he also has a certain balletic elegance in the way that he moves. We even call him Billy Elliot because he's really got some amazingly refined moves. I cannot help but feel that Milo is somehow being coerced into something that does not befit his gentlemanly demeanor. Their dilated pupils, coupled with Zeus' gentle restraint of Milo's left leg may indicate that something is amiss. I have learned to sleep with one eye open because I am fairly certain that one day I will awake to learn that Planet of the Cats will have overthrown my life as I know it, and that we will officially have to bow to every demented whim Zeus envisions.

  1. OK, I'm definitely seeing a silent plea for help in Milo's eyes... But the two of them do look so adorable together. One of my very first cats was hardly a cat at all, but rather a very small, spoiled human in a very convincing cat suit. Even now, we have one of our pride who decidedly prefers human company.

    1. OMG- I totally agree with you, Kate. Poor Milo looks as though he's saying "please save me from this aberrant psychopath- he's far more insane than you could ever even imagine!" This is a whole new thing finding them together like this. I don't think that it is necessarily a response to Emma's death- because neither of them were close to her, but there has been a definite adjustment to the pride generally with one less member.

That's funny-- I had the same experience with one of my first cats-- Piaf was perhaps even less feline than Zeus, or at least she was more human than he is-- and that's before you factor in any anthropomorphizing on my part. It's very interesting when a cat prefers human company to their own kind! Some just seem to come with more of a human sensibility. I hope that your kitty kids have made the adjustment to your recent loss. I hope that you are healing a bit more each day as well. <3

  2. It's always fun to see pix of your lively kitties and pups! Is Milo a Tonkinese? He looks a lot like my beloved (but long gone) Tonk, Poppy.

    1. Hi Sam, I'm glad that you enjoy the silly creatures that I am lucky enough to live with! Believe it or not Milo isn't Tonkinese- he's actually a Siamese. Oh, I hope that looking at him doesn't cause you any pain-- despite the fact that Poppy has been gone for a while. I still cry over kitties that I lost long ago- those who left indelible marks on my heart. :)

    2. Oh, I'll always miss Poppy and, as you said, I still cry over the loss of him--yet it's a real treat when I see a cat who reminds me of him. And Milo certainly does..but he's a Siamese! (Chocolate point?) Our two "new" cats (whom we've had for 3 years, so hardly "new"!) are Siamese, too. I think they might be a bit overwhelmed by Zeus as well! ;)

    3. Oh, Sam- I'm right there with you. I still fall apart when I think about my babies who are no longer here! It warms my heart to think that seeing pictures of Milo makes you happy and makes you think of Poppy! Yes, I think that Milo is Chocolate point. He, his 6 or 7 litter mates and his mom were all rescues who had been thrown into a dumpter in South Central LA. We adopted him and his sister (Lola- after whom I named the blog). Everyone from the litter and the mother appeared to be perfect purebred Siamese, but Lola was the weird runt who looks something like a white Calico Siamese-- definitely with the Siamese eyes, but not the same type of beauty as her brother. I love that your two babies are Siamese-- they are such regal creatures! Milo likes to stare deep into your eyes when he sits on you-- but it's sort of a penetrating gaze as though he is trying to communicate some abstract intellectual idea. It's sort of odd coming from a cat. When the others gaze into my eyes they are expressing something like "duh, what-- is it time to eat?" I wouldn't be in the least bit surprised if your kitties were overwhelmed by Zeus-- he even gives Delilah and Lucy a run for the money, and frankly doesn't seem to have noticed that they are dogs. ;)
