Le Métier de Beauté Dualistic Eye Pencil in Tamarack- Review & Swatches

According to Le Métier de Beauté, "The creamy, pigment-rich formula of our water-based gel pencil allows for a velvety soft application that glides on smooth and doesn’t drag or tug at the delicate eye area. It is so fluid and soft that it works great either as a liner to create a saturated fine line or as an eye shadow base, smudged to perfection—a truly versatile product to be used under or over eye shadow and designed for maximum blendability and long-lasting coverage. Considered an essential in any A-list makeup artist’s kit, it is key to creating some of the chicest eye looks, subtle or dramatic."
Of the four shades available, I have Tamarack- which is a gorgeous shimmery bronzy brown.
The water-based gel allows this beauty to glide on, and smudge out easily without any pulling or tugging of the delicate eye area.
The Dualistic Eye Pencil is of a softer texture, and it does seem to fade or wear away after a few hours of wear if I use it alone as a liner. However, if I set it with a shadow it lasts all day. As LMdB mentioned, it is quite often used as an eyeshadow base- much in the way one would use a MAC Paint Pot. This method of layering, which Le Métier de Beauté calls couches de couleur, is the way that you will most often find LMdB makeup artists applying the Dualistic Eye Pencils. They use these as a base, and then begin their deft process of layering their buttery soft shadows right on top of the Dualistic Eye Pencils.

However, this silky smooth "velvety soft" eye pencil is so gorgeous that I have been smudging it out and wearing it alone as an eyeshadow on my lids-- and it is just stunning!
Overall assessment: Simply stunning! Tamarack is one of the prettiest bronzy brown shades that I have seen, and the texture is so silky smooth! This is a lovely pencil for layering (as a shadow base) and using as a smudged out shadow. It is gorgeous as a stand alone liner, but you may experience a shortened wear-time if you opt to wear it alone.

  1. Looks like it would be stunning on the eyes!! Do you use a primer - which one?

  2. This was one of the first purchases I made from Le Metier. Almost every one of their artists starts with this pencil. They usually put concealer on my eyes (not a good idea) since they don't have a primer yet. At home I use it with a primer and then as an e/s base shade.

  3. I am a huge an of any brown eye products. This one looks stunning! Can you create a dramatic eye with it? I really hate getting a beautiful brown only to have it barely show up.

    1. Me too, Victoria!! This one is a real stunner!! You can create a dramatic eye, but I would definitely suggest applying it over a primer and building up the color. Of course, you will get far more intensity out of it if you apply it the way the LMdB artists apply it, and layer shadows on top of it. It's a really gorgeous shade, and the quality is exquisite! However, someone looking for this to be a stand-alone liner to simply line the eyes with nothing else-- they will likely be disappointed that the wear-time will be lessened if it's not layered in some way. That said, I am super happy with this beauty!

    1. I have only seen the swatches of Champagne, but it looks GORGEOUS!! Believe it or not I don't own Lola- though I have certainly seen swatches of it- not to mention your gorgeous EOTD posts using it. It is definitely on my RBR list!!

    1. Hi Emily! It's a really lovely and versatile liner-- I would definitely recommend seeing it in person to see it. These really seem to be a favorite for the LMdB makeup artists, and I now can see why!! :-)
