Rouge Bunny Rouge Loose Glitter Pigment Fire Drops- Caress of Mink Review & Swatches

Rouge Bunny Rouge has once again created a product of the highest quality that is sure to please even beauties with the most discriminating tastes! Loose Glitter Pigment Fire Drops from Beyond the Looking Glass, in Caress of Mink, is described as a "scintillating medium taupe brown with pewter-plum highlights," and it is simply one of the most gorgeous eye shadows that I have ever seen- no exaggeration!
Steeped in the tradition of the Rouge Bunny Rouge fairytale, here is how the story unfolds:
By day, deep inside the Enchanted Garden's densest forest, the vast Agni Tree melts quietly into the sprawling greenery. But as dusk descends, Sparkling Fireflies teem around its warming branches. For they know the secret thrill of the Agni Tree, and their delirious dance is a harbinger of the joyous night fireworks to come. The Agni Tree's roots plunge to the depths of the earth, where they are nourished by molten lava. Each night, the magma rushes from the ground and pulses through the branches, until the crowning blossoms explode in a shower of vibrant molten fire drops, gleaming in every colour of the spectrum. The darting fireflies, smitten with the energy of these molten bubbles of joy, infuse their wings with the thrill; never knowing which hue will appear each evening.  By dawn, these swift, uncurling flames of primeval fire dry into an exquisite concentrate, used to infuse with bliss the Enchanted Garden's various festivities.
We were inspired to recreate their zingy pigments for you as the Fire Drops range. Adorning yourself with this fiery lava dust will gift you with the playful mischief of a fluttering firefly and the intense brightness of the blossoms' luminescent shades. The formula contains a super high percentage of pearl, which will grant your eyes a marvellous shine and luminosity but with a weightless feel. We added Sodium PCA, a natural moisturiser that maintains the water balance of the skin, makes the texture soft and elastic and the application creamy and easy. A sponge-tipped wand enclosed in a practical bottle will safely keep the pigment inside and let it out only when you want it.
I decided that I really had to get my hands on this gorgeous loose pigment after reading Modesty Brown,  Café Makeup and Perliously Pale's amazing reviews. Prior to their reviews, back in December 2011, I had been scared away from trying the Loose Glitter Pigment because I assumed that glitter meant glitter- so I decided against trying any of the shades- even during Zuneta's fantastic sale.  Modesty Brown summed it up perfectly when she said, "Glitter pigment sounds a little scary and glitter generally is not my cup of tea but this is glitter Rouge Bunny Rouge style." She is spot on! This is not a glitter bomb, but instead an incredibly refined loose pigment that has a gorgeous refined sheen. There really isn't anything about it that suggests that it is a glitter pigment- in fact the texture and effect is more akin to a satin finish than anything else.
Caress of Mink is an an incredibly complex shade that certainly is a "scintillating medium taupe brown with pewter-plum highlights" as Rouge Bunny Rouge suggests. However, even their description fails to reveal the complexity of this otherworldly shade. There is no question that this lovely hue is in the taupe family of colors, but the true character of this color is unleashed when the sun dances on the surface of the skin revealing the ethereal character of this shade as it modulates from one color to the next. This is makeup magic of the highest order. It is nearly impossible to capture the essence of Caress of Mink with a camera- it really needs to be experienced first hand. Every taupe lover out there needs this in their stash, period! This product in very very finely milled, and of the highest quality imaginable. It seems to me that this shade should work across most skin tones- the pewter plum highlights make it work well for my cool-toned skin. I think that the combination of warm and cool colors makes it fairly neutral, and thus well suited to cool and warm skin tones alike.

I have worn Caress of Mink with and without primer, and feel that the wear-time is significantly increased with a primer- as one might expect. I wore it all day without creasing or fading when applied over a primer. Without a primer it did have a tendency to fade and crease by the end of the day. This can be applied wet or dry, and can likewise be added to other products to add a little extra zing and dimension.

Packaging: Bravo RBR- this is how loose pigments should be packaged! It is housed in a tube much like those used for lip glosses- which includes a convenient wand that pulls out the perfect amount of product each time. One never worries about losing product the way one would when a pigment jar tips over and gets everywhere. Here the housing around the opening prevents spillage.

Application: The sponge tip applicator can be applied directly to the eyelids, but I have found that I prefer to pull the pigment from the wand with my brush instead. I think that applying it to the lid from the wand is a less efficient method than using a brush, and the brush also minimizes the possibility of fall-out.

Ingredients: PARAFFINUM LIQUIDUM, PETROLATUM, ISOPROPYL PALMITATE, RICINUS COMMUNIS OIL, BUTYL STEARATE, COPERNICIA CERIFERA CERA, PARAFFIN, CANDELILLA CERA, CERA ALBA, CERESIN, CERA MICROCRISTALLINA, STEARYL HEPTANOATE, POLYETHYLENE, TALC, STEARYL CAPRYLATE, METHYLPARABEN, PROPYLPARABEN, BHT (+/-): CI 77891, MICA, CI 77007, CI 77400, CI 77510, CI 77492, CI 77499, CI 16035, CI 19140, CI 42090, CI 75470, CI 77000, CI 77163, CI 77266, CI 77288, CI 77289, CI 77742, CI 77947, CI 77491.

Overall assessment: This is by far the best loose pigment that I have ever tried! This has the amazing uncompromising quality that one expects from RBR. PURE MAKEUP MAGIC!

Availability: Rouge Bunny Rouge is available through Zuneta out of the U.K., and they ship Internationally. Fear not, Zuneta has extraordinary customer service, and they are delightful to interact with.

    1. It is very pretty! It definitely has a browned taupe base-- I am only able to pull it off because there is just enough of the pewter plum highlights to make it workable. It's so finely milled- the quality is so high. This is what loose pigments should really be like! Plus the packaging is brilliant!

    2. I agree! Much more efficient and less messy than those gawdawful sifter jars.

    3. Which makes using loose pigments too much trouble! Fall-out is a deal breaker for me- it's too much trouble to have to clean up the mess, and it's awful when it gets into the eyes. So this is a real paradigm shift for me!

    1. Absolutely amazing! This is what all other loose pigments should aspire to!! I largely have you to thank for this new obsession as well!! I should have figured the same, but somehow the word "glitter" just scared me away. Thank you for your review-- your swatches and your EOTD with Caress of Mink and Embrace of Cashmere was what finally made me place the order-- so thank you!!!!! xoxoL

  3. Gorgeous!! Your pictures are superb.
Don't hate me but I bought it and put it somewhere!! Do you know where? I need to do some searching.
Here's some good news though - RBR is now at Beauty Habit. Or maybe it's not such good news since it will be easier for us to justify!

    1. Thanks, Marcia!! Oh no, you bought it and can't find it! I have done that before. You really must find it-- you will wonder how you lived without it once you use it for the first time. It is DIVINE!! I saw Gaia's post about RBR coming to Beauty Habit-- I nearly fainted at the thought! Is this really a good thing?! You are so right the convenience will make it far easier for us to justify!! That might make all of the US Beauty Bloggers go broke simultaneously!! :-)
