MAC Too Supreme Collection 2012: Sheen Supreme Lipsticks in Royal Azalea & Asian Flower Review and Swatches

MAC Sheen Supreme Lipsticks from the Too Supreme Collection according to MAC were inspired by, "East Asia's chic celebrated in fresh shades of Sheen Supreme Lipstick and new Sheen Supreme Lipglass. With a finish that redefines shine, these soft succulent shades have a smooth, lush pearl-rich sheen no other lip colour can match."
I only picked up two of the shades: Royal Azalea (bright mid-tone pink, Cream formula) and Asian Flower (creamy lavender, Cream formula). Unlike so many recent MAC collections the Sheen Supreme Lipsticks are a part of their permanent range.
In describing this formula, MAC asserts that, "combining the colour impact of a Lipstick with the shine sheen of a Lipglass, Sheen Supreme creates the perfect hybrid - with no compromise. Lightweight, non-sticky, slick to apply and comfortable to wear. This is a must-have for those who have craved this type of fusion." I do love how lightweight and non-sticky, and slick to apply these Sheen Supreme Lipsticks are. I would also add that that these two colors have lovely pigmentation and aren't in the least bit patchy in their application. The bad news is that both of them dried my lips out, and I know that others have made the same complaint. The only way that I can wear these is on top of a moisturizing lip balm- which makes me reach for them less often than I normally would.

Overall assessment: The colors are gorgeous, and the texture and finish are lovely. However, I find this formula to be drying on my lips. I can only comfortably wear them on top of a moisturizing lip balm.

  1. Too bad about feeling drying on the lips, but that is my experience with MAC lipstick overall. The only MAC formulas I can wear (and certainly not every day) are Lustre and Creamsheen. Over time, though, Lustre makes the corners of my mouth feel cracked, almost as if the lustre particles were made of fiberglass.

It's too bad that MAC isn't a little higher quality because they have such an amazing color range.

Speaking of color, on my monitor, those two look nearly identical swatched on your skin, even though in the tube they look completely different.

    1. I agree- I was disappointed. It's strange that it could have such a fabulous texture, finish and such lovely colors- only to end up so drying. It sort of defeats the purpose if you really have to wear something underneath to protect your lips. I have noticed the same thing with a lot of the MAC lip formulas as well. I think the Creamsheens are ok for me though. Fiberglass lipstick-- yum yum!!

I know- I wish that MAC would up their game because they really do have a truly amazing color range. Some things are fantastic- while others certainly are not.

I'm not sure how much distortion you are getting on your monitor, but the two colors seem to me to be in the same family of colors with Asian Flower pulling a little more lavender and Royal Azalea pulling a little more pink. It's as though they used the same base and just added a little more purple to Asian Flower. They also look lovely mixed together.

    2. I see the difference in color much more clearly on my Mac. I bet they do look gorgeous mixed together.

    3. I'm glad that you can see it better on your Mac. They are GORGEOUS mixed together. It's just a pity that they are drying!!
