Sunday Riley Skin Adrenaline Anti-Aging Concentrate REVIEW

Sunday Riley's Skin Adrenaline is my all-time favorite Holy Grail daytime moisturizer, and I use it every single day without fail. When the weather is cold I do often layer it with Bionic Anti-Aging Cream (reviewed here) which is my go-to nightly moisturizer. I also add additional nourishment and moisture by using Juno Transformative Lipid Serum (reviewed here) day and night. This antioxidant packed combination of nourishing moisturizers is simply divine, and they makes my skin glow like nothing else that I have ever tried before. Skin Adrenaline is a "multi-purpose concentrate that works as a skin primer, firming treatment, and lightweight moisturizer." It moisturizes the skin immediately with the added benefit of giving the skin a luminous glow, and it accomplishes this without the use of any petrochemicals.

According to Sunday Riley Skin Adrenaline is an:
Instant Radiance Booster. Layers perfectly under Bionic, Cashmere SPF or Good Genes. Maximum Concentrations of Key Actives which: Rejuvenate Lackluster and Damaged Skin, Build Youthful Collagen, Accelerate Healthy Skin Growth, & Provide Skin Nutrition for Regeneration. Provides essential lipids. Hydrating, Anti-Pollution, Anti-Oxidant, Anti-Inflammatory, Anti-Aging.

Key Ingredients:
1) High-Potency Centella Asiatica (Collagen Building). It contains Asiaticoside which is an ingredient that stimulates Collagen Synthesis.
2) Hexapeptide-11 (Upregulates Growth Factors, Matrix Proteins for Youthful Fibroblast Development, Skin Elasticity). These ingredients increase elastin production and skin firmness.
3) Live Yeast Cell Derivative: (Accelerates Healthy Skin Growth, Densifies Extra Cellular Matrix, Soothes inflammation). A known super-healer that soothes and heals.
4) Squalene & Ceramide-3 (Moisturizing, Radiance boosting). Adds lightweight, bio-identical moisture to the skin that mimics the good oils that your body naturally produces.
5) Thermus Thermophilus Ferment (Photostable Antioxidant System derived from Deep Sea source; Anti-pollution). This deep sea antioxidant combats pollution and offers unparalleled antioxidant protection.
6) Pomegranate Seed Oil (Collagen Synthesis, Ancient Anti-oxidant).
7) Rosehip Seed Oil (A natural source of trans-retinoic acid, anti-wrinkle, Radiance booster). Like Squaline and Ceramide, Rosehip seed oil also adds lightweight, bio-identical moisture to the skin that mimics the good oils that your body naturally produces.
8) Astaxanthin (Wrinkle reduction, Powerful antioxidant, moisturizes).
9) Phosphate + Mineral Complex (Nutrition, Skin Regeneration, Firming). Phosphate has skin firming properties making it an ideal ingredient for the face, neck and décolleté.
10) NV-5 AGELESS COMPLEX (5 Native American Botanicals which Rejuvenate Damaged Skin, Pro-Actively Fight Aging, Anti-Pollution, Detoxifying).

Skin Adrenaline's lightweight formula is packed to the brim with essential minerals and peptides making it a powerhouse moisturizer. For those with combination skin, like me, this is an ideal daily moisturizer. Attention oily skin types: you have just found your moisturizing nirvana. People with dry skin will find that this works beautifully as an anti-aging serum layered with your daily and/or nightly moisturizer.

Skin Adrenaline has a lovely silky smooth texture that melts right into the skin leaving it radiant, soft, and supple. In addition to being highly effective it also offers a fabulous sensory experience- which is always a bonus for me since I relish the time the I spend engaged in my skincare routine. Self-indulgent, I know, but I take my skincare regime very seriously- so actually enjoying the experience is essential for me. After all, our skin is our biggest organ and I think that it's very important to take very very good care of it.

Tip: Adding a pump of Stimulant II Perfecting Stem Cell Serum (review forthcoming) to Skin Adrenaline, in conjunction with a good sunscreen (my preference is Sunday Riley Cashmere SPF 30 Sun Defense (review forthcoming) mixed with Juno Transformative Lipid Serum (reviewed here) gives added protection from the damaging rays of the sun (or excessive solar radiation). I will elaborate on this in my upcoming review of Stimulant II.

Overall assessment: A must in my skincare arsenal. Absolutely a Holy Grail treatment product for me. I use this every single day, and will continue to. Worth every single penny.

  1. Good to see your post on this. I previously responded to your post on the cream foundation which is brilliant by the way. Barneys is having their beauty event next week, so I pre-purchased Skin Adrenaline, Juno, and the cream foundation in 120W yesterday. With my purchases over $300 on Sunday R's products, I am also getting a full sized eye cream as a bonus gift. I am super excited to pick up everything next weekend. I got some samples to use in the meanwhile. I am loving everything and might pick up more products at my next trip. Maybe Good Genes and the Tinted Primer. Thanks for all your reviews, they are very helpful indeed.

  3. I am extremely impressed with your writing skills and also with the layout on your weblog. Is this a paid theme or did you customize it yourself?
Anyway keep up the excellent quality writing, it is rare to see a
nice blog like this one today.

    1. Thank you so very much for your very kind words about my writing and my blog- that truly means a great deal to me! If what you meant by a paid theme or the layout of the blog refers to the "skin" of the blog (the background orange pattern) and the general configuration of the blog columns etc.- then I did not pay to have a web designer do it-- I did it myself just sort of figuring it out and learning along the way. :-)

Again, thank you so much for saying such kind things about my blog!

      Have a lovely weekend!

  4. Lola, I am seriously considering changing my entire anti-aging skin care regimen.. scary, as at age 55, people look at me and think I am between 38-40. I really have great skin, but, it does take effort and eating and drinking plenty of water. My question, I hear all about Matrix 3000, Haloxyl, & Syn-Hycan, to name a few, as well as a host of pep-tides. Does Sunday Riley's product line include these active ingredients? I have read many of your reviews & list of ingredients, so I want to make sure, so when I am 80 years old, I'll have the skin of a 50 year old. Thank you for your GREAT blog!

    1. Hi Unknown,

I'm so glad that you love my blog!! You just made my day! I just took a look at all of the skincare products (face) and did not see Matrix 3000, Haloxyl, & Syn-Hycan listed in any of them. Sunday Riley does use lots of peptides in the skincare line though. Here is a link to my master-list with an overview of all of the products and links to the individual reviews-- in there you will find an itemized list of the ingredients in the products reviewed.

Your skin sounds amazing! I agree with your approach to taking care of your skin-- it indeed requires drinking water, eating right, and generally taking care of one's health.

Sunday Riley products are filled with all sorts of active ingredients- the philosophy of the company effectively involves the marriage of botanicals with Bio-chemistry-- so it isn't green in the sense that it is free of all chemical compounds. The company believes in taking the best from both realms and creating a high quality product that is very effective as a result. If one is looking for chemical-free products- then this line generally will not appeal to them-- other than something like the Juno Oil.

I would not recommend dumping what you are using, if it works for you. When I first started using Sunday Riley skincare I started with just a couple of products from the "core" line. I bought Juno Oil and Ceramic Slip Cleaner and used them for a while to see if the line worked for me. I then added in Good Genes and Skin Adrenaline, and eventually ended up with everything. I would suggest getting samples first to see if you like the line, and to see if it works for you. They are very generous with giving samples-- and had they not given me so many samples I probably never would have purchased much of the line.

I am very happy with the line personally, but not everyone will have the same results. I am a firm believer in adding in new products cautiously and one at a time-- then it is really easy to identify any offenders if you have a negative reaction of any sort. I have learned to do this over time because there have been a great many much-raved about products that I have tried that ended up irritating my skin.

I think that if you continue to take care of your skin as you do that you won't look 80 when you actually are 80- despite what you are using-- since clearly skincare products are only one part of the equation. That said, Sunday Riley does offer wonderful anti-aging products that I have found to work wonderfully on my skin!

      Have a lovely weekend!

  5. Lola, I am considering changing my skincare regimen completely, based upon your reviews and experience with Sunday Riley's products. I have great skin at age 56, it takes work, diet, exercise & plenty of water, but worth the comments, "You look like you are 38 years old". So, question, I read so much about Matrix 3000,Syn-Hycan, Haloxyl & a host of pep-tides as active ingredients in anti-aging products. I have read many of your reviews and the list of ingredients. Are these found in Sunday Riley's products, as well? Thank you for your GREAT blog!!

Suzi is no longer working for Sunday Riley, but you can speak with Merrady or Mark.

    I hope that I helped!
    Have a great weekend! :-)

  8. Hi Lola,
I was just trying to compare ingredients to skin adrenaline to bionic and it looks like the picture you have up is the same as bionics ingredients? I was wondering if you have the ingredients to skin adrenaline?

    1. Hi there, the photograph of the ingredients on the box was from my bottle of Skin Adrenaline. I no longer have the original label to Bionic, but I found the ingredients to Bionic on the Dermstore website and posted them. So it appears that I accidentally posted the SA ingredients for both. Nice catch, thanks!
